Hawks parent here. The new Madlax is not good. Period.

If you mean the kids who live in the area then yes, but they're flying kids in from around the country for some tournaments who raise the floor.

I would bet a significant amount of money that the fly-ins will all happen to be present when they play DCE in HOCO, but who knows about other weeks.

Pretty sure they had all their flyins when we played them at Fall Brawl. They might make them better, but they’re still not good. Our second line was running over them.

So cynical, that program is just out there for some good, character-building competition, and to celebrate the joy of sport and purity of the game.

Do the top talent kids go to these? What school is going to get the top talent out of the 28 class?

About 60 2028s (mostly 91 and Crabs/Crabs Lite) at Loyola prospect night along w about 30 2029s (FCA, LTLC/Crabs, Preds). General feeling was that most kids already picked their school or they're down to 2, everybody nervously hoping they get in. . And of course many schools already have 15-30 lax players at their middle schools. I'd look for McD, CHC, and Spalding to dominate elite player recruiting. Loyola, SP and BL already have key players but not sure they'll get more. And they each NEED more. STM, Gilman, and Severn are really far behind. They'll be tasked with doing the most with the least.

At the very least it's a good way to see how your kid would fit in at a school, and for players to meet the coaches. If your kid wants to be considered for financial aid for lax, they should probably go. Doesn't hurt. Usually they are free.

The MIAA need's talent more now than ever. It has to do these to keep up with OOC teams. This trend will be the norm as years go by. The have and Have nots have been getting wider, this will probably make it wider as the teams spending already will keep spending .

This is the reason Boys Latin is basically a national team now and Mcdonogh is turning to a regional team. Once the 25 91 Fire kids graduate, folks will get to see if Andy can actually coach or not. Those two rings basically belong to Mark Millon if being honest.

CHC and Loyola can recruit strong enough to keep pace. Spalding and St Mary’s are at the mercy of however the Hawks parents are feeling any given year.

Everyone else is a non factor and likely will remain that way.

I am a completely objective observer who decided to watch Madlax play multiple games and in my totally unbiased and not a team dad opinion their goalie and defense display top level joy of sport - probably top two or three in the country - and their attack and middies dominate in purity of the game, and all of them have built elite level character and definitely more than those ungrateful quitters at DCE.

I am sure your a completely objective observer "Goalie Dad" or maybe now we have "Defense Dad". I am also guessing those great players are the same ones that came over from TRUE.... You had us going until you mentioned DCE...

Tourette’s Goalie Dad is back!!

Top Level Joy of Sport. What is that, anyway? They enjoyed themselves getting run over by B teams at NAL? They gave up 24 goals in 3 games. Against mid level teams.

Top level Joy of Sport, that’s a new one. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Will be fun to see all these kids competing in the spring, even these Madlax kids when they bring their new “elite level of character” to HoCo.

Formers Hawks parent. It sounds like the 28 team is fractured when it comes to high schools. STM gets a couple of poles. Spalding gets the LSM and maybe one attackman. DC schools may get one or two attackmen. Beyond that, it's up in the air but from what the insiders say STM and Spalding do not win like years past.

Slow your roll there, big fella -- the reason I wrote the joke post was because it is the sort of fake objective observer obviously self-promotion that at least one ML parent keeps posting on here. The may have been fooled, but I was making fun of you.

McD was an underachiever with talent for years, No ships , the MM connection must get credit for some of McD success recently with the ships. I doubt it continues once the chosen ones are gone

Once the 25s leave McD, they will basically be Gilman again.

That said they might 4peat.

But after Millons team(s) are gone it’s over.

Hilgartner should be donating his checks to MM for handing him championships.

Yes, but I heard he was probably going to board somewhere.

Kids are probably deciding on 1 or 2 schools. Acceptance letters will go out the end of January. I'm sure for some it comes down to where they got in and how much they can afford.

aren't there two good goalies on that team - one who has been on the team a long time and one that recently dropped down from 2027?

Yes the top kids go to these. If they are smart.

If a kid is top talent and wants top lacrosse money, they should go to at least 2. It's good to have multiple offers and apply to multiple schools for leverage. Only gullible parents believe the first offer and fibs the lax factories are telling.

Supposably its Gilman/McD , then all the rest somewhat similar and BL pulling up the rear. All promote schooling that would make a progressive proud.

You can probably add St. Paul's to the top. Mt. St. Joe and Calvert Hall are a step above public school.

Does have a son or know a kid who plays football and lacrosse at a top private school (eg STJ, Gonzaga, GP etc) Talking to the recruiting coaches it seems like it’s not encouraged. I’m wondering about their experience and if you can be successful at both or if it’s too hard with school.

We've asked this during recruiting and it seems like it depends on the school. At SJC, where the majority of the varsity football team seems to commit to high-end D1 programs, I don't know that's it's realistic to expect to do both, but at some of the smaller schools (or schools with less competitive football programs) it seems like the door is more open.

I know families at all 3 (slightly different) and have played one or both sports. Z and SJ different especially re football. If you aren't recruited to play there are very low odds your son will ever make varsity. There is very little overlap - maybe none - of key players on the football and lax teams. Their best lax player, Ryan D, was their place kicker and gave it up a few years ago. Zaga has a lot of kids that play both sports at varsity level. So if your son is good at both, but not a phenom on the grid iron, Z may be a better fit.

Prep football is okay and has decent overlap with lacrosse. I don't know percentages, but kids play both particularly early in their HS adventure.

The smaller schools population-wise generally want and need kids to play 2 or more sports. The larger ones will usually ask you to pick one sport to focus on. Or make it difficult to play 2.

Mcd, Stm, Jc, Stp and Gil have a lot of 2 sport athletes. Ch, Lb, Spal generally have less.

A lot depends on how good of a lacrosse player your son is. If they are a lock to be on varsity Sophomore season then playing another sport should be fine. If they are borderline then it may be better to get to all the off-season lacrosse workouts and events as possible. Most schools don't let the football players participate in any other sport in-season, including fall NHSLS.

Prep has a decent football team with several D1 kids. They beat Loyola Blakefield, who is legit. Of the top 7-8 kids on the team, 4-5 of them are starters on the lacrosse team, including the QB, TE, WR. Same thing at Lamdon, most of the better football players were starters on lacrosse team, headed D1 for lax. QB, RB, etc.
