Takeaways after a few tourneys.
Coppermine and Eagle Stix are as good as they were last year; and Coppermine isn't at full strength yet. Very strong teams, no real weaknesses in any phase. Will take a special effort, with some really good luck, for the rest of the top 15 to beat either one.
Looks like Hero's has been next best, but had a tough game with Eagle Stix over the weekend. M&D has had some good results, winning the games they are supposed to win, keeping it close against the top two. MDU will still be a factor this year. Somebody asked above if they had adjusted to changed roster--it looks like it. Good team, plays very tough defense. Well-coached.
Hard to say where Crush is at. They look the same in the eye test but have had some mixed results. Sky Walkers hasn't started clicking yet, but it would be hard to live up to the expectations from their boosters on this thread in any event. Maybe today is the day that this board recognizes that Coppermine and Eagle Stix are in a different tier than everyone else. Agree, no weakness on either team. Hero's may be the only team in the top 10 that may come close. M&D doesn't look like they improved at all and is trending down not up. MDU looks fast but also somewhat on the smaller size. Crush will always be there with their coaching. Skywalkers may need more time to bring the new players together, but will be better as the year goes on. Right now its Coppermine and Eagle Stix.

Mostly agree, but would say that SW really doesn't look as good as last spring and may sadly trend down. M&D is confusing, not sure why the Black team isn't stronger, but both Red and West are very good B teams. Seems like some moving players, realignment could make a stronger Black team.

Who did M&D lose to that there were supposed to beat? They went 2-1 both of the last two Sundays, with losses to Eagle Stix (by 3) and Coppermine (by 4). Strong win over Aces. Those are decent results.

Its clearly ES and Coppermine as the top two. They are just too big and athletic for the other teams. Too bad they didn't play one another Sunday. Heroes is alone at Tier 2 and than you have crush, MDU, M&D and can throw Pride in there for tier three. after that its everyone else. Based on results from this weekend it seems Aces has regressed quite a bit so not sure where to place them. SW has a lot of work to do.

Aces lost to NXT, so Aces is not as good of a win.

Those are decent results. They also lost to Heros last weekend 9-5. I feel like Aces always has girls missing in the Fall and I noticed some SW girls missing as well. Not making excuses just wondering if that had any impact on those teams. And maybe Crush on Sunday? I know they have a lot of soccer girls.

I wish I knew what happened to Crush this weekend, because I probably would have put them in Tier 2 with Hero's a week ago. Though I am normally skeptical of such arguments, I think I would accept that Crush was missing key players due to their significant drop in performance this weekend. I am not ready to accept Pride being in the same tier as M&D and MDU, though it is not totally unreasonable considering recent performance. fool.

Aces lost to NXT, so Aces is not as good of a win. Since when? Roughly since May 2022; the last time they beat Coppermine. Coppermine then went on an 88-4-2 run, and Eagle Stix emerged as a clear number 2. No disrespect to M&D, which remains the only club with top 5 teams in every age bracket, but those 2 clubs really took over the 2028 level. That's since when. We will see if Hero's is in a clear Tier 2 alone this Spring. I'm guessing they are closer to M&D, MDU, Crush etc, than they are to Coppermine and Eagle Stix.

Once Capitol Blue forms in 9th grade they will push the top tier but until then its Coppermine and ES.

Agree, the Capital team will probably fall in the area of top 10-15 but won't come close to Eagle stix or Coppermine.

Capital typically draws from the Wash DC Metro area, but there could also also be players from further out, including Richmond and Charlottesville. Though there would be Pride and Stars girls in the pool, the team will include players from various clubs. There are quite a few DC-area girls currently playing for MD teams and at least some of them would presumably be in the pool as well. The Capital teams come together in 9th grade and it takes some time to gel, but they are usually pretty good and I would think 2028 year would be no exception.

"Already losing to teams that finished ranked below them" means they lost a nail biter to a team just as good as they are, but ranked one or two spots behind. The rankings certainly have some value and can be enough to project wins/losses, but it's only a definite win when you're playing someone 15+ spots behind you. Losing to someone 10 or so spots back happens to just about every team at some point.

What are the predictions for the Mid-Atlantic? Why does the purple division get two teams to advance to the bracket play? And why does pink have so many more teams in it? Purple should get 1 to advance and pink should get 3.

What are the predictions for the Mid-Atlantic? Coppermine and Hero's in the final, Coppermine takes the win. I agree that Coppermine will win it and finish strong for an undefeated Fall campaign. But I'm going to call M&D beating Hero's and taking the second spot in the bracket playoff from the A pool.

I wish I knew what happened to Crush this weekend, because I probably would have put them in Tier 2 with Hero's a week ago. Though I am normally skeptical of such arguments, I think I would accept that Crush was missing key players due to their significant drop in performance this weekend. I am not ready to accept Pride being in the same tier as M&D and MDU, though it is not totally unreasonable considering recent performance. fool. In my opinion Crush has some issues they need to take care of. Offense seemed to revolve around one girl when we played them (let you guess which one). Feel bad for some of the other talented girls on the team. I'm sure some will be looking elsewhere next year.

You sure about that? Hero’s beat them by 4 last weekend. That's a fair point. Just have a sense that M&D is progressing, coupled with the fact that it's harder to be the same team twice in a row with complacency and motivation issues. Hero's does not play their best when overconfident. But we will see. Hero's does have an easier schedule otherwise, while M&D also has to play MDU.

What's the go to tryout event for next Summer: All America, American Select, AU Futures, Apex 60? Miss any? American Select is well-run, fully attended by college coaches--including top 20, and the number and quality of commitments from girls who attended (yes, probably driven by their club, not necessarily Am Select) is very impressive. Seems most important at the rising 10th or 11th grade level. AU Futures was not at the same level last summer. The number of "pros" interacting with the girls was light. Some of the regional teams seemed to be better organized and competed hard for their college coaches, but others were less fully engaged. Did not see a ton of college coaches, but they may have been there for the older girls. Would like to hear a view on All America.

All America will be tough, only one 2027 made it last year as its a combo rising 9th/10th grade team. American Select prob the go to event for 2028s. AU Futures doesn't really carry much weight but if your kid wants to meet the Pros and get some coaching from them, its a cool experience. Apex 60 I wouldn't really do unless your kid is just a lax rat that can't get enough of it.

Coaches are the same for 26 class next year. They split time. Nobody is watching 27/28 next summer.

Does that mean that it's not a good experience, to try out, make the team, and go compete? No, not at all. Tryouts are generally run by the same folks each year. Not a bad idea to establish a brand/reputation.

The guy who predicted M&D would beat Hero's here to eat my words. Nice run by Hero's at Mid-Atlantic, topping it off with a big W over Coppermine in the Championship.
