Ok, so what’s the first sighting for 2028? Madlax at Aloha, DCE at PrimeTime in NJ, NL at Oct Invitational at Liberty Park. Hawks? FCA? 91? Crabs?

The ML goalie is the youngest on the team. He's big and loud, but young.

Does that mean he’s looking forward to the bounce house and face paintings at Aloha?

Please stop trying to make this a thing people care or talk about. Whether you're the kid's dad or not you're putting him in a worse position with this sort of thing, which isn't great to do to any 13-year-old.

Must be the salty dad that started out coaching with Preds 2 years ago, quit the team for 91. Dude is fool!

They were awful last year, and I can’t imagine they’ll be any good this year. Unless we are talking 2-3 divisions below Elite?

How many 2028s are the top high schools realistically looking to bring in next year as 9th graders?

I know coaches have their short lists of kids they covet that they turn into the admissions folks but just wondering how many 28s realistically will end up on each A conference schools roster.

If your kid is on an elite team and is a top 3-5 player on that team you should have already been in contact with coaches.

Preds will beat ML 28 Cap at Aloha and the goalie dad above will be having a loud breakdown in the stands, per the norm. Go Preds!

ProStart dad is calling Preds terrible....funny! Do your homework and for the record no one cares about last year. The new club season begins in two weeks.

here is what I can find on the size of the 26 classes.

all subject to blurry eyes bad counting and likely to change on a year by year basis.

but you can see the range, i guess.

loy 46 (27 FS, 16 JV, 3 V)
spal 42 (13 FS, 25JV, 4V)
calv 34 (18 FS, 14 JV, 2V)
stm 25 (24 JV, 1V)
jc 18 (12 JV, 6 V)
sev 17 (15JV, 2V)

couldnt find info on bl, gil, mcdo, msj stp.

my guess is bl and stp are closer to the top of the list, while mcdo, msj and gil are all in the middle of the pack.

So it looks like the answer is that most places will bring in as many freshmen as possible and then let the winnowing process figure things out from there. We've heard from four HS coaches and they're all very nice, but that's been my general impression of how it would go down in practice.

This must be a Baltimore / MIAA thing. There’s not much, if any, recruiting going on at the DMV schools. Kids who are interested in going private typically do a “shadow” day at the school and then take the SSAT and apply to all of them. If/when they get in, they decide. There’s very little financial aid for kids coming to these schools unless they’re from PG county. Not sure I’ve heard of a lacrosse kid getting aid. Or recruited. St John’s does recruit a bit, my kid was contacted, but that because they have to.

They had about 35 kids try out, including about 28 from Sidewinders, a few from Predators, a few starters from Hawks Black who personally work out with Kyle Harrison. Not sure if they picked up anybody from ProSlash.

After tryouts, the fallout from the True Ches debacle led Clippers to add a second team, and suddenly crown it their "elite team" to the dismay of the Sidewinders parents who had been sold a whole package about their sons' team playing at the "highest level" this year. Welcome to the B team!

All par for the course in MD club lax.....

They swept up AA, beat FCA White twice, and lost by a buzzer shot to Blue Claws. It was a solid AAA line up. Miles from elite, miles from "awful."

The squad lost 4 of its top 5 scorers, all 3 goalies, and 2 of 3 starting defensemen. Most of whom went to Crabs and Crabs Lite. They were replaced by players who were cut from FCA White and True Baltimore. So I guess we'll just see?

The majority of kids on Crabs roster are on-age, even in HS. It is true that they rarely touch the field.

A lot, but not all of them by any means.

1. Unless your son is an elite-level playmaker who his club director (who the HS coach might call) knows by name/sight, there's no realistic lax-specific path.

2. This means surviving the admissions path, and for 9th grade the acceptance rate at these schools is anywhere from 10% to 40%. Many 2028s got a rude awakening last spring when their "sure fire" acceptance to MIAA was denied for 8th grade. Bottom line, if he's getting a 3.1 at public school, McDonogh has no faith he'll keep a 3.1 at prep school AND play high level sports at the same time. Of course if he has a 2.4 and has a 110mph shot, that's different. And if he's a very average lax player with a 4.0 and the president of his MS class, that's different too. And if dad is an alumnus donor, that's different as well.

3. I detest to be the bearer of bad news, but for the MIAA-A schools that have middle school programs, their enrollment is already stocked with 20-30 "serviceable" lacrosse players from 2028 AA to Elite. Aka an insurance policy if the 30 lax kids accepted to 9th grade don't fully pan out. So, walking around with a big sign that "MY SON PLAYS LACROSSE REAL GOOD" won't get you very far.

4. As John Carroll Dad loves to moan about, a legit reason to not go MIAA-A could be that your son wants to PLAY BALL more than he wants to be part of a top-25 national school team and the #5 varsity FOGO on the team in 11th grade. That's a serious consideration too.
