The results of the former coach speak for themselves, Time to move on Coach.

Gunnar Waldt will have immediate impact on team . Former Goalie who knows the game and played in MIAA and D1 . All time save leader for his former college. Good age to relate to team. Better fit for team in long run.

All this hoopla over " best league in country" .. most of the coaches in league are decent High School coaches at best.

Except Gunnar of course because he’s never been a head coach aside from a c level “club” team not even in high school team. Good players don’t always make good coaches. Tends to be the opposite. If he was a goalie specific coach, sure. A head coach, there’s not one person here that would want someone with no experience taking over their son’s program

Wait a second, let’s not be too hasty here. Professional lacrosse player and All American goalie Scotty Rodgers aka the Big Rig lives in his meemaws basement. I smell a built in assistant coach. To the top of the MIAA we go!

What’s going to happen to box coach? Gilman’s let him go and now JC had no interest.

Staff rounding into shape nicely.

Gunnar and Scotty can arm wrestle over who gets to warm up the goalies each day.

Gilman can run the box.

Can MeeMaw install a motion or pairs offense?

Who runs the defense?

Most of the coaches arent that great of coaches. All you need to be is decent in High Scholl, MIAA or wherever. If they were great lacrosse coaches they would not be coaching there after a few years. Greener Pastures as they say.

Frankly most anyone with decent knowledge, handles themselves well and not a complete hammerhead, can coach in MIAA if given opportunity. He is a goalie, so they usually make better coaches than other positions,,, Yes, I know about MeeMaws grandson ....The whole MIAA you got to be the second coming of Big Man IAmInsecure Edell or else is way over hyped .

You are kidding right?

The Gilman coach was a 3x national champion, and all-Conference Player in college. He coached hs for 10+ years and won 3 state titles at Hebron and Marriott's Ridge.

The old coach was well respected in the league and community, so this looks like a joke.

Brief search of the internet says he did a year stint at a college in San Diego. That’s it. So he coached for maybe a year and then gets a head coaching job in the MIAA A conference. I know John Carroll is the but of a lot of jokes here, but those boys deserved better.

John Carroll and its students are just fine, I just like to clown the dads, because the JC dads on BOTC are often insufferable.

Let's honestly admit, given the fumbling of JC leadership with this position so far, this is actually not a horrible move. Yes, great players frequently make poor coaches/poor motivators, but I don't sense that's the vibe of how GW would lead athletes. GW, being a northern Balt Co native, could play a role in keeping local talent local (a real need), could elevate the complexity of the program and the plays (at least at varsity) to where it hasn't been in some time, and his age is mostly a plus for the incoming players. Keeping in mind that LB and SP also have gone the route, recently, of younger HC's. And yes, neither program is at McDonogh's or CHC's level, but I bet JC would love to be in LB's/SP's position in terms of a lax program.

Where he will struggle, only due to inexperience / lack of adult years on earth, is the same areas where his predecessor failed. Navigating politics. Advocating for budget items when the school is actually building the budget (instead of constant emergencies and complaints about being underfunded/understaffed). Being copacetic with putting on a suit for a boring donors dinner and telling a few hilarious stories, when he'd rather be on the field with the boys. Most of us in leadership have had to work through that unless it was a natural talent. Hopefully they'll give him enough time to learn.

Considering GW coming and JC lost 3 of its top players to westtown, I think your thought of him bringing/keeping talent at JC is wrong. The new LB (Coach U was still there last year) and SP coaches, were they new to coaching? Or did they have the vast experience of a single year before getting their shot?

StP had to bring in two previous head coaches last year to right the ship. The new HC was in way over his head. Notice Gilman had Brooks Matthews and his staff back on the sidelines at NHSLS so one would assume Gilman is going the same route ( guess only current HC stays his staff will be dismissed).

Loyola head coach has already alienated his team and parents by the supposed new OC hire. So this might blow up a lot sooner than everyone hoped. Maybe new coach will realize it was a bad move a rescinds the offer.

Gunner worked his [Censored] off at StP and Bryant to get to the next level. I’d imagine he’ll bring the same work ethos to JC along with an assistant or two who share his ambition.

Gunner will also present himself well to the alumni and parents. I’m with Gunner!!

Hope jc kids and gw the best. He was chosen because well…. no other option and he will be controlled and managed. Jc is a tough place. Still in 2023 JC doesn’t have even air conditioning. School also lost the land to arch diocese so now have to pay rent. Not being able to use land freely and use its equity is tough. Take into account labor used to come from church, now have that added expense. Then the financial commitment to single sport hoops kids is substantial. If you look at the people who stay at jc longer than 3 or 4 years they are people who turn blind eye and never speak up for what they think is right and best for the kids. It’s not like it’s just one or 2 people turnover since new admin came in. AD has created a bad culture at the school and community has lost confidence. GW is the right age and if he gets a good staff and shows he has different values then the administration he will have a chance to be best program in Harco. If not jc will fall back to being expensive 2/3 best program in the county like they were for decades.

Yes. We’ll call it the “Don’t Underestimate Initiative” or plan D.U.I. for short.

Don't believe the Aegis.
It is printed to make local public school parents feel good.
JC was terrible this year and still swept state champ Fallston and their 12 "all county" players.

JC families have no faith because of the school's repeated bad decisions.

The president and AD only make decisions to cover themselves. Never for the best interest of the students.

A perfect example is the hiring of the handsy athletic trainer and firing coaches and teachers who kids and families love and respect.

Recruiting battle, what recuriting battle? My kid went to St. Mary's in grade school, was a key player on elite team (trying to remain anonymous) and was aggressively recruited by 3 of the other power house schools but not St. Mary's. We don't need to be courted but it's definitely odd and it speaks to who else ends up at St. Mary's.

Recuriting to a HS doesn't take much. It's a couple phone calls, texts and a tour of the school. You only need 10 elite level kids per year knowing you're going to get another 20 who aren't elite of which some will end up contributing because they get better in HS, grow 8 inches or started late.

The worst part is they dropped the Fresh/Soph team 2 years ago. My kid wasn't going to play Fresh / Soph but it means 45+ are on JV and Varsity. It's a recipe to take a step back.
AND they do not make cuts to the players that tryout. Everyone makes the team. No feelings are ever hurt at STM. Yes rosters are huge and mismanaged.

Can't speak to the other claims, but you are wrong about StP and the two assistant coaches being "brought in to right the ship." Perhaps sticking to commenting on things you know and understand would be a better idea.

Wow. In light of this shocking information it’s amazing they even have a lacrosse program at SM…

Stand by… being told the Saints have actually made the playoffs six years in a row and played in two of the last four championship games. If true this would be very odd, given these very credible dad reports posted via the bar-area WIFI at the Glen Burnie Chili’s.

School hired a crisis management firm. Probably would have been easier and a lot cheaper to just support program and give at least a couple half pays to compete.

GW will have to bring in some top experienced assistants. Guys that can develop and coach. Recruiting the county will be tough with old Jc assistants now at Fallston having success building relationships at youth level. President pissed off north harford area pretty good with how he had treated families up there. Kids from that area already leaving or no longer coming. Not GW fault but a tough reality. With not having middle school, a lot of kids are already in baltimore county privates and Are not not available. Roster will need an overhaul after years of giving out embarrassing financial offers.

GW has some lacrosse experience but most of his lacrosse coaching is only for a year or two before he bails for something else. Not much of a track record for sticking it out and growing a program. A lot of turnover at jc last couple years with teachers and coaching. Will he stay?

A lot of the talented returners and recruits were able to get out but because of the schools timing right after tuition was due and late in summer a ton of kids couldn’t. Area schools are full and with league rules kids would be punished for adult decisions if transferred . Will younger families opt to only play jv to preserve options not knowing what AD will do next. Burn me once not again reasoning.

Then you have the whole church investigation with the known cover up of the strength coaches doings. I’m sure old staff will be involved in that process as well.

Hopefully he announces a great staff on Monday and has already hit the ground running on the 28’s.

GW is gonna have to be already moving to fix this.
But not sure he knows all those issues you mentioned.
Admin didn't fill him in when they rushed the hiring process.

Lot of talk about JC . When is last time a team that could not win any game that counted get this much talk. One poster must have had a son that was in with last coach. Last coach didnt get job done.

GW will right the ship in a few years .
