New rankings for Division 1 - 2 - 3

It is a little easier with some data. This is rankings as of today, not projected rankings so I am sure there will be a lot of movement. Feel free to disagree because this is just my data; others may have more info. Again, looking for someone to wow me with some Division 2-3 knowledge. I can't disagree with the previous post either - I think that person may have more insight into potential but I am using current data. Everyone is right!!

For NENG D1 schools ranked 2 - 7, you should think about reordering based on performance against common opponents. Brunswick is in its own world; based on common opponents and records, then I'd prioritize Hotchkiss, Salisbury, Taft, Deerfield, AOF in that order. Taft and Deerfield are good but not as ominous as past seasons. AOF rough start, but suspect they'll rebound. Salisbury has a lot of talent, but performance to-date is underwhelming. Hotchkiss has all of these teams over the next few weeks. If they can get 3 wins on this group, then we'll know they are legit. Repeat, Brunswick is a different category of beast.

Hotchkiss has a chance to prove themselves in the next few weeks. I like what they are doing there but Like I said I’m not basing the rankings on projections. It’s what they are doing up to now. But that’s just my rankings.

4.17.22 D1-D3 rankings

D1: Not much movement, some of the big boys still need to play each other. Brunwsick's world for not. Taft, Salisbury, Deerfield, Hotchkiss can all be interchangeable as the next Tier. I don't think any of the others are going to be contenders. NMH and Kent should consider be relegated to D2

D2: GFA and GCDS with the biggest movement

D3: added Masters School - hard to find any scores for this division

As always, looking for more D2/D3 experts and this is just opinion looking to stimulate discussion

Current Last Week School Record Comments

Division 1

10 11 Westminster (3-4) Needed that choate win to stay relevant
11 10 Berkshire (1-4) 4 straight losses

"data rankings?"

The poster may have been referring to Inside lacrosse rankings. I don’t know how accurate IL rankings are as I prefer US Club Lax algorithm which is the same as the NCAA.

IMO Ranking D1

1. Brunswick
2, Taft
3. Salisbury
4. Deerfield
5. Avon Old Farms
6. Hotchkiss
7. Trinity-Pawling
8. Loomis
9. Choate
10. Westminster
11. Berkshire
12. Kent
13. Northfield Mt Hermon

Brunswick 1 as if there was a doubt. Taft strong #2 then Salisbury and Deerfield in are close. Avon continues to move up as Hotchkiss came back to earth a little. TP sort of in limbo floating along as is Loomis. Choate fading and Westy loss to TO didnt hep them. Only news in bottom 3 is Kent out of cellar.

D2
1. Gunn
2. Millbrook
3. Canterbury

Not so scientific rankings for 4.25.2022

D1 - I can't really agree with all of the rankings from the person above though they may have better data. However, I can't have Taft second after losing to Deerfield. I could see Hotchkiss being 6 with a huge loss and no big wins but AOF has no wins of major consequence either. I think Kent and MNH are both bad but Kent isn't even close to a win and NMH has 3 wins. Nonetheless, the shuffling continues with Deerfield beating Taft but still no one touching 'Wick as they easily handled Hotchkiss and has beaten Hill and Taft. The next 4 teams are bunched together and interchangeable even with a Taft loss. The rest are not contenders from AOF down. AOF and TP need quality wins. Loomis and Choate are uneven. Westy moving into the relegated status. NMH and Kent do not play each other - we need a game between them to determine the bottom of the barrel

D2 - Also can't agree with the above person rankings for D2. Millbrook was not even close to Canterbury so Millbrook which fell to 4. The top 3 are all interchangeable. I think Gunnery will be the best team but based on results I have Wilbraham first but Canterbury remains a potential sleeper. Williston may be better than their record indicates but not a contender. St Lukes beats Rye Country Day in a close one. Bottom 3 teams fighting to be last though I think Suffield is better than KO and HH

D3 - I can't find any scores. I think Wooster is probably the best team

5.2.22 Not so serious rankings

Division 1 - a little movement below "Wick. Deerfield continues to play strong. Taft moves up with a strong win against Hotchkiss which is coming back to earth. Their game against AOF will determine the best of the middle teams. I am not sure Berkshire is the 8th team but they had a huge win against TP who is down as well as Choate. Poor Kent isnt even close to a win and has lost against 3 Division 2 teams.

Division 2 - Wilbraham remains the top team. Canterbury probably would have moved into that spot with their win over Gunnery (which falls to 3) but they lost to Albany Academies (by 1). King making a push with 6 wins in a row. Cheshire Acdemy suppose to be in the upper Div 2 tier but very uneven winning close games against lower D2 teams and not coming close against upper D2 teams keeps them with the lower D2 teams

Division 3 - Still having trouble getting scores but Harvey win over Wooster moves them up to #1 spot

Current - Last Week - School - (Record) - Comments

Division 1
1 1 Brunswick (10-0) Darien and Salisbury games are looming
2 3 Deerfield (8-1) loomis and Andover wins
3 5 Taft (7-2) big win againast Hotchkiss moves them over Salisbury
4 4 Salisbury (6-1) no games this week
5 2 Hotchkiss (6-2) coming down to earth going 1-2 in last 3 and big Taft loss
6 6 Avon Old Farms (7-5) 4 in a row but no huge win.. Hkiss game determine 5-6 spots
7 8 Loomis Chaffee (5-5) Loss to deerfield, win against Exeter
8 11 Berkshire (5-5) 3 in a row with a win over TP leaps them over Choate
9 7 Trinity Pawling (5-5) free fallin going 1-3 in last 4, held Wick to 8
10 9 Choate (4-4) 4 losses in a row
11 10 Westminster (3-7) 4 losses in a row
12 12 Northfield Mount Hermon (3-11) loss to St Paul and a Div 2 team Albany Acadmies
13 13 Kent (0-12) Losses not close with a loss to Div 2 Gunnery

8 12 King School (6-1) 6 wins in a row vaults them 4 spots
9 7 Greenwich Country Day (5-2) big loss to King
10 9 Cheshire Academy (3-4) wins against teams theys should win are close. Losses are big

You are quite welcome! To be honest, so little is posted on this forum anymore that I thought it was dead. I post mostly to generate any discussion

As for the data, its mostly just simple data with a little of eye test. I probably should have posted the methods before but for tiebreakers it is usually 3 thing (in order):

1) head to head
2) SOS
3) margins of victory

Future potential does not factor in nor does reputation. Thanks again and hope you are having a good lax season

Not so accurate rankings 5.9.22

Division 1 - Close win for 'Wick after jumping up on Darien. Salisbury-Wick game will determine the best though I still think spots 2-4 are still all interchangeable. AOF making a claim for being the best team in the middle of the pack as they beat Hotchkiss whose dream season is turning into a nightmare. TP vs Choate will determine the lower half of the pack. Berkshire has a big win against TP and then loses 3 in a row. Their game against Westy will determine the best of the bottom of the league. NMH and Kent losing to D2 teams

Division 2 - Wilbraham win over Canterbury was close but settles who's on first. Wilbraham-Gunnery game for D2 bragging right is upcoming with a chance for Gunnery to leapfrog both teams for the #1 spot. Cheshire moves back up with their win against an undefeated GFA team. King has won 7 in a row but has yet to play the hardest part of their schedule against Hopkins and GFA. The Hopkins game will determine 3rd-4th in the FAA playoff seedings. Suffield vs KO will determine best of the bottom

Division 3 - added 3 more teams: WIlliams School who appears to be the dominant team, Woodhall and a Co-Ed Darrow team. Having trouble getting scores

Current Last Week School Record Comments

Division 1

1 1 Brunswick (12-0) Close Darien win after jumping out early. AOF a potential trap game before Salisbury
2 2 Deerfield (9-2) Rebound from Lville loss with a Hotchkiss win
3 3 Taft (9-2) Hi'kiss win not as impressive with them faltering. No problem against TP
4 4 Salisbury (10-1) Last 3 games against Taft, Wick and Deerfield is brutal
5 6 Avon Old Farms (9-5) Big winb against H'kiss, close win against TP
6 5 Hotchkiss (6-5) 4 losses in a row has taken off some of the luster of a good season, esp loss to AOF
7 7 Loomis Chaffee (6-8) Uneven with loss to Westy but beats an average Andover
8 9 Trinity Pawling (6-7) Only win in the last 5 is against D2 Millbrook
9 10 Choate (5-5) Lost 5 in a row and beats Berkshire. Big match against TP
10 11 Westminster (5-9) Beats D2 Millbrook by one but beats Loomis 13-8
11 8 Berkshire (6-8) Beast TP then lays an egg ainst Gunnery, Taft and Choate
12 12 Northfield Mount Hermon (3-14) After 3 straight wins, they have lost 4 in a row including to D2 Albany Academies
13 13 Kent (0-14) GF-GA 60-248

16 16 Kingswood-Oxford (1-9) Finally gets a win by beating HH
17 17 Hamden Hall (1-10) GF-GA 57-173, only win is against Div 3 team

Division 3

1 NR Williams School (8-3) Not really in the league but I added them because they play a lot of the same teams
2 1 Harvey (4-3) beats Wooster and Forman and loses to Williams
3 4 Hoosac (2-1) loss to dublin school

Not so accurate Div 1-2-3 rankings 5.16.22

D1 - Well I have no idea who is the best team in the area any more for D1. Congrats to Salisbury for beating Wick in a close one. Im not sure Wick still isnt the best team but Salisbury has earned the nod for sure. And yes I am aware that Taft beat Salisbury and Deerfield beat Taft. It looks like the top 4 are interchangeable so you could argue any sort of flip-flopping. I do wish there was a playoff system in place to determine the champ but we will have to settle for Deerfield vs Salisbury. As for the next 2Tiers, no change

D2 - Wilbraham has solidified it's #1 ranking with a win against Gunnery. In the lower half, chaos ensues as Hopkins beats and undefeated King, King then beats an undefeated GFA and GCDS may have lost their best player to injury. It is those 4 teams that have qualified for the FAA semifinals.

D3 - Williams isn't really in the division but plays a lot of similar teams and are clearly the best one. Hoosac could be that team but they do not post their scores. Wooster redeems some bad losses with wins against Harvey and Forman. Marvelwood moving up. And kudos to Darrow for fielding a Co-Ed team and getting some W's.

Current Last Week School Record Comments
Division 1
1 4 Salisbury (11-2) Huge win against Wick moves them up
2 1 Brunswick (13-1) Still not sure they are not the best in the area but a loss is a loss. Sounds like it was amazing
3 2 Deerfield (11-2) Close win against AOF doesn't help
4 3 Taft (12-2) Close win against Loomis didn't help
5 5 Avon Old Farms (9-7) 2 losses in a row albeit to Deerfield and Wick
6 6 Hotchkiss (8-5) 2 wins: 1 against a D2 and the other against a mediocre Choate
7 7 Loomis Chaffee (7-9) An upset against Taft could have helped
8 8 Trinity Pawling (7-7) 2-5 in last 6 with a close win against Choate and close loss to AOF
9 9 Choate (5-6) Loss to TP puts them in the bottom but they are the best of the bottom
10 11 Berkshire (7-8) 3 more games, 2 aganist D2 wont help their standing. They have to beat Andover
11 10 Westminster (6-10) Beat Kent
12 12 Northfield Mount Hermon (4-15) Beat Winchendon
13 13 Kent (0-16) GF-GA 71-287

Division 2
1 1 Wilbraham & Monson (10-1) Huge 1 goal win against Gunnery soldifies their #1 spot
2 2 Canterbury (11-4) No problem against Cheshire ACademy and big win against Portsmouth Abbey
3 3 Gunnery (11-4) Close loss to Wilbraham. Beat Millbrook
4 4 Millbrook (5-7) Losst 5 out of 6 though 2 were to D1 and 3 were to the teams above them
5 5 Albany Academies (5-6) No shame in losing to Hotchkiss and Berkshire
6 6 Williston (4-8) Losses to Loomis and Canterbury
7 7 Cheshire Academy (7-5) Loss to Canterbury and 1-2 goal games in their last 3 wins against lower D2 teams
8 9 King School (9-2) 7 wins in a row
9 8 Greens Farms Academy (8-2) Huge loss to King ruins their undefeated conference bid
9 12 Hopkins School (6-7) On a roll beating a previously undefeated King. Has played a brutal schedule

Season is about to start, do these end of season rankings translate to pre season 2023?
Wick has lost a lot of players but not nearly as many as Salisbury, Taft or Deerfield…..looking at what losing players meant for St Johns out of DC (1-2) you have to wonder how well these top 4 will fair. Is the pack closer than ever?

Can only speak for the TP win over IMG that was in fact a game as it has been reported as such. Seems like "Wick vs. St. Sebs was a game as well.

No dog in this fight but Inside Lacrosse does not have this as a game for IMG or TP. I also did not see this listed as a game for TP on their website either. I would imagine that if IMG vs deerfield and taft were scrimmages, TP would also have been a scrimmage.

Not so accurate Division 1-2-3 rankings

Starting to get a sense but still too early to tell. We know who the bad teams are but some teams have had cupcake schedules and others have had incredibly hard schedules. Hotchkiss and Choate are undefeated but has close wins against a very easy schedule whereas Loomis has 2 difficult losses. I didnt give Taft a win which is what they put on their website when Army game was canceled - anyone have any insight but beating Andover 24-4 was a wow! AOF with a close 1 goal loss against BH. In the battle for the bottom NMH beats Kent

I have also divided Division 2 into 2 categories: Div2-West which is mostly boarding and Div-2 FAA which is mostly day schools. Difficult to compare the two divisions which is why I split them up. Millbrook and Brunswick-B made the biggest jumps. Hard to believe that Cheshire Academy lost to the Canterbury-JV squad; they play the varsity later in the year. GFA and King school probably the teams to beat in the FAA

I dont think Division 3 has played much lacrosse. Williams is technically not in the division but they play most the schools and are probably the best team

Not so accurate Division 1-2-3 rankings

Not so accurate D1-2-3 rankings

D1: We now have some groupings. Still have the big 3 at the top until someone beats them but I have moved Taft above Salisbury because of their win against 'Wick and a huge loss to Lville by Salisbury. Huge wins by Choate and Loomis have them knocking at the door. Next group are all interchangeable AOF-Deerfield-TP-Hotckiss. And the bottom is still the bottom 4, though Kent should move down to D2-West

D2-West: Huge loss by Millbrook to a winless Gunnery moves them down. Brunswick B not ready to move up to the top spot as they beat up on the D2-FAA and bring some of the Varsity players to help out, or so I have been told. Williston still above CBury due to their close losses with a harder schedule

D2-FAA: GCDS is looking very good. RCDS was in the driver seat but lost to GFA. HH with a win against Hopkins moves them up.

D3: Harvey cements themselves as the team to beat beating Williams. Really only 3 teams in that division that are competitive. If anyone has any scores on the #5-11, that would be great

Avon should not be that high. I watched their last two games and they are so poorly coached. They have so much D1 talent they should be running away from Choate and loomis. They should be a top 10 team in the country but in the 2 games I saw they were basically down 5-10 goals before the opponent started putting in some backups. For the record my boy goes to loomis so I can tell you they thought they had little chance going into the game until they actually saw the film on them.

AOF has unfortunately fallen and they do have a lot of talent but I would say they are still solidly in the middle of the pack with Deerfield, TP and Hotchkiss which have all had uneven seasons as well. AOF FOGO was hurt 4 games ago against Berkshire so that has also played a role. But I think there is still a lot of lacrosse to be played to determine who is legit as I am very interested in how Choate does against Salisbury and Taft (they dont play 'Wick?) and how Loomis does against Taft (already lost to Wick and Salisbury) with a big end of the year game against Choate. Loomis has looked solid though.

I unfortunately don't. Rarely will a school website post them but many don't even post a roster. I think a lot of information is withheld for gamesmanship MaxPreps may be an option as well but they are so unreliable with their score reporting so I cant imagine the stats are any better.

You are right. Just saw that AOF FOGO missed the past few losses but now appears to be back. Didn’t realize that and now it makes sense. Maybe they aren’t as bad as I thought. He played vs Westminster and won every faceoff that he took. Not that Westy is a great team but what a difference. In the 2 games I watched vs Choate and Loomis they won approx 10 faceoffs combined. Didn’t see the Salisbury loss. Maybe they can save their season. Also saw that yesterday, Choate played a great first 1/2 vs Taft and an upset was possible. They were tied at the half but then lost by 5 or 6 goals. Tafts offense was too good in the second half and their defense shut down Choate. The end of the season should be fun! It’s a shame wick, Salisbury and Deerfield can’t qualify for the founders league playoffs. They should add those teams and have 6 teams qualify vs the 4 four they have now without them. The playoffs would be electric and truly allow to see who is supreme in the northeast. I would even love to see an ISL/Founders League championship for true supremacy!

I have never seen them listed. The ISL has a link (or at least they did for last year) and it was great.

Great stuff. Yes, I was at the Salisbury game and they threw all kinds of people at face-off including poles. I agree it is tough to gauge as Westy is not good this year but regardless AOF looked good. It would have been great to see Loomis and Choate break into the top 3 but I think we may have to wait until next year. Taft looks real good right now. It would be amazing to see and ISL - Founders championship. I would be interested in that Brooks - Kent matchup!

Still a lot of lacrosse to be played

Not So Accurate D1-2-3 Rankings

D1: Not a ton of movement except Deerfield which seems to be hitting its stride which causes AOF to fall one spot. The close win for taft was not enough for me to have salisbury jump them (yet). Tempted to put NMh above Westy but NMH plays a weaker schedule. Poor Kent.

D2-West: Only movement was at the bottom. Gunnery seems to have found their footing beating Canterbury. Cheshire Academy misses their middie that went to L'ville and now sits at the bottom after a loss to Suffield.

D2-FAA: No movement but RCDS losing their best player hurts them going forward. HH with a devastating loss to St Lukes hurts their playoff chances as they need to win their next 3.

D3: Lots of movement here. Harvey remains at the top but Hoosac who beat South Kent who beat Forman has hoosac and South kent move up a few slots. Marvelwood gets their first win.

Now not sure of my rankings D1-2-3

D1: Choate with a huge win. Now there is a top 4 but Choate and Wick dont play each other to battle it out. No Kent Salisbury score but unlikely to move the rankings

D2-West: Wilby seems to have a solid hold. Cant move Wick B up because of their weak schedule

D2-FAA: GFA with a non conference loss to Austin Prep. RCDS has some injuries that may prevent them from advancing any further. Top 4 teams are likely destined for the FAA playoffs

D3: South Kent showing some moxie and moving up. But Harvey is the class of the division

Now Im all mixed up rankings D1-2-3

D1: Salisbury beats Taft. Wick beat Salisbury. So many teams have beaten each other and I cant make heads or tails as they could all make an argument for the top spot. Too bad Wick and Choate dont play. By margin of victory and by margin of loss to Lville (9-10), I have to put Wick 1st again but any of them could be #1. CHoate could make a case. But I am going to use laxnumbers rankings for some help.

Same issue in the next Tier with all the teams beating each other. Poor Deerfield with a loss against AOF. A win wouldnt have moved them up but would have made a case for the top spot of the next Tier. I could put AOF above Loomis because of their (9-15) loss to Deerfield and I am not sure they would beat AOF again now that AOF FOGO is playing again. Kent basically not posting updated scores at this point. Lax numbers has it (Dfield, Loom, AOF)

D2-West: Not much movement. Millbrook avenges a close 1 goal loss to Gunnery by trouncing them (18-9). Brunswick B falls because of their weak schedule and losses. Not sure they should be in this Division but I dont know where else to put them

D2-FAA: big win by GFA over GCDS and King to retake the top spot. RCDS should be third but they are dealing with injuries. Playoffs this week

D3: Incorrect Wooster-Forman score earlier in the year has changed the rankings. HVAL playoffs this week

Almost there final rankings D1-2-3

D1: Exciting final game in the Preps going double O2. By virtue of their close losses to LVille, I think I am going to have to put Wick #1 again though Taft could easily make the case for #1 so i used Laxnumbers as the tie-breaker even though Taft beat Wick, their Salisbury loss hurts them. If Taft beats Loomis on Wednesday maybe they make the case for #1. Loomis coming on strong and Choate fading. AOF get the misfortune of having to play Taft back to back and finishes losing 3/4. TP gets to play Kent twice? Hotchkiss stays above Berkshire who close on a 4 game win streak because HKiss beat Berk earlier in the season. Westy is bad but I cant move NMH above them as they lost to Westy and NMH schedule is very weak. BUT AT LEAST KENT WON a game for the first time in 4 years,

D2-West: Apparently there was a score correction from earlier in the year and Millbrook actually beat Wilby so I have to move Millbrook past Wilby even though Millbrook closed with a whimper by losing to Albany bad. Albany stays above Willy but virtue of their early season win against them. Brunsiwck B schedule is [Censored] but cant move Gunnery past them and Cantebury lost to Gunnery as well

D2-FAA: Exciting final as GCDS gets revenge by beating last years champion GFA and takes the top spot

D3: In an exciting game Williams gets revenge on Harvey and takes the top spot in one HVAL finale. In the lower HVAL finale, Darrow beats Marvelwood

Final Not So Accurate Rankings Division 1-2-3

D1: 'Wick as the champion though one could make an argument for both Taft and Salisbury as well. Taft beat Loomis in the Founders Championship. Personally I will say there was more "parity" this year with any of the top 7 teams playing competitive lax. My surprises include Loomis. My disappointments include Choate, who could have made the leap into the top tier but still had a good year, Hotchkiss and Westy which has fallen off the map. But kudos to the Kent Seniors who finally got a win

D2-West: Champion: Millbrook - they played a very competitive schedule and a lot games this year. Wilby could make an argument but they lost the head to head. Surprises - none. Disappointments - Gunnery, Canterbury and Cheshire Academy which has also fallen off the map

D2-FAA: Champion: GCDS who beat GFA in the championship. With the exception of GCDS who is building a solid program, no surprises except maybe Hopkins School who lost a lot of firepower with their graduating class last year but still managed to win 5 games. No disappointments except maybe King who has the talent to compete with the top 2 teams but came up short this year.

D3: Champion: Williams who beat Harvey in the final game. Harvey had a great season though and played a tough schedule. My surprises included them and South Kent who came out of mothballs to play 3 games and play competitively. My disappointment is Storm King who could not field a team and Wooster who should have been more competitive.

See you all next year.

Way too early for rank or even talking team but curious does the mount of players who comnit to play in college have any relevance on how goodll a team will be in spring?
