Confirmed they got the MDU middie, but that’s all I’ve heard. I had not heard about any other new middies from MD top 5.

So what does everyone think the issue is with M&D if this is all accurate? M&D's main issue is the parent coaching Parent coaching is fine as long as the coaches are qualified and that is the case there. Coppermine has 2 of the 3 as parent coaches Hero’s has parent coaches Crush has parent coaches Not ideal but sometimes unavoidable. Oh Boy !!!! It is avoidable but clubs take the easy way out and have multiple parent coaches. That doesn't mean the coaches don't have a good resume. But very rarely can a parent coach be objective. Unless the parent coach's kid is not strong and doesn't play a lot or care about playing a lot (i know is the case in one team at M&D) there will be issues. The main issue is the coaches children taking up roster spots and playing time from better players. Not always but often. And both Heros and Crush parents have the same concern. believe me there are parents on the sideline who are just as qualified if not more than some of these parent coaches. Maybe it's a necessary evil ?!? But Anyone on this board saying it doesn't matter is either a parent coach of some kind themself or their child is not affected by a parent coach's kid. It's naive. It's all about playing time and opportunities and a parent coach's kid as 90% of the time given more of both . Look at the current teams in recruiting now. Maybe you'll all change your mind as you head in to recruiting. Parent coaching at $3k/ year team is just a bad bad idea

Yes! Coaching objectively is a problem for one of the teams listed. It was obvious because the coaches kids rarely came off the field. Team was full of amazing talent, but couldn’t see past their own kid.

The rumored 3rd middie from a top club is still the mystery. "Just" the MDU and M&D middie make that group absurdly good. That's like 4-5 of the top 20 middies in the age group, and arguably the best one, on the same team. fool. Will be like an NBA superteam playing against college level for some games. They are going to need more than one ball over there. Agree that it sounded like the Eagle Stix comment was a joke. Interesting day at Mid-Atlantic. If your team is home this weekend, check the standings on Tourney Machine for a few surprises.

So 3D Colorado beats Jesters, Eagle Stix, and Crush in succession to win the Mid-Atlantic Club Championships. I saw them play in the Fall and these results would not have been within reach for that team. Wonder if they had some new additions, or just training at high-altitude?!

With the close of the 22/23 club year and tryouts coming to an end: What is your projected 1-6 starting out next year? 1. Coppermine 2. Hero's 3. Crush 4. M&D 5. MD United 6. Skywalkers

I heard this weekend that M&D is going to start fielding a M&D National team as it's top team in the next year or two taking the top girls from all of its teams rather than having the Baltimore Black team be the premier team. Does anyone know if that's true?

They are a "super-team" as long as they can keep everyone happy with enough opportunities, and don't end up standing around watching each other play hero ball. If they can sustain an attack with movement and passing, they could score 140 goals in NGLL. Agree that Hero's is number 2 based on how they finished the season, especially if they got stronger with new additions. Crush looked good at Mid-Atlantic, kept their core, and remain well-coached. Agree they start the '23-'24 season at #3. M&D will have to rally to re-claim 3rd best in Mid-Atlantic. Sputtered to the finish a bit, but have had some puts and takes in tryout season apparently. MDU sounds like they are in a tough spot after losing several top players. Not sure they hold to #5. Sky Walkers will be an interesting team to watch. They built momentum through Summer Genesis Origins and then hung it up for the summer. Still not sure of what the key factors were in their improvement or if they are sustainable, but an impressive finish to the season. Since someone mentioned a VA team--I will comment that Pride is an interesting one. Ties with Aces and M&D, and a close game with Crush at Mid-Atlantic were promising results. Will be interesting how they grow with new coaches coming down from the '24 team with high school head coaching experience. Couple losses and gains through tryouts, but their core middie group is intact.

This is great for the sport to have a non-east coast team win. Apparently, they just 2 girls from Urban Elite and had one girl move in from California. Parents said that Team 180 is falling apart at younger age groups and 3D and Urban Elite will be the top CO teams for 28 and beyond. Regardless, this shows how much the sport in growing.

Next year will be too late for a lot of those girls to find new homes and to develop This is a ridiculous comment. There are many paths to lacrosse success. Tell Katie Schwarzmann that 9th grade is too late to develop your lacrosse game. Just do the math--around 110 girls play for the top 5 Baltimore clubs. There is a growing list of 117 Division 1 women's lacrosse programs and almost 300 more D3 programs. Over two-thousand girls from across the country will get to pick a college where they can play lacrosse while pursuing their education. Even if you look at the top 25 alone, the notion that you have to be on a Baltimore big 5 team in 8th grade to get there is manifestly false. Looks like NY, Connecticut, Jersey, and PA are all doing pretty well. Recruiting is national now. All a comment like yours does is make good parents who are trying to give the best opportunities to their kids, while balancing academics, life, culture, etc., nervous they are missing something. Give it a rest. Go to Laxnumbers. Every year the number of girls from greater Baltimore going D1 is holding or declining. When top clubs from LA, Denver, Minnesota, Chicago all send 10-12 girls division 1, those spots come from somewhere. Five years ago being the 90th best kid in Maryland would get you an above average D1 offer, now lucky to get any D1 offer at all unless you want to go to Detroit, Lindenwood or Youngstown state.

M&D lost some players (as did most teams). Their tryouts concluded first, so I’m not sure how accurate the characterization that they picked up girls “cut from other teams” is. I don’t know about all the players they added, but I do know they picked up girls who were not, nor would have been, cut from their teams. And regardless of a girls prior situation, I’m sure all are good players with good potential.

That’s all that matters. And Hero’s can think they are giving Coppermine a game but won’t happen.

A few cut Hero’s players went to M & D, so there goes your theory. First of all, it’s rude to call girls out like this. Especially when you only sort of think it’s true. Second of all, who cares? Players who are not a good fit for one team may be for another. They’re 13. No one has peaked.

Sounds like a salty Hero's dad trying to stir up things. Let the girls decide what team is the best fit and worry about your own family and getting your kid better.

No Heros dragged out the cutting process in hopes of girls having to stay on White team. Girls were left scrambling and reaching out to lots of clubs…if they landed at M&D kind of shows that M&D did not have top talent at tryouts if they were adding after their own rosters were supposedly set

Girls not understanding the importance of space and timing It's a balance. Are speed and athleticism key factors, sure. But the notion that you can have elite speed and not be as good at lax, and get recruited over an outstanding player who is fast but not elite, is flawed. There is probably a threshold speed for some positions, but it is only one factor after that.

A few cut Hero’s players went to M & D, so there goes your theory. So they were cut before Heros tryouts ended? No Heros dragged out the cutting process in hopes of girls having to stay on White team. Girls were left scrambling and reaching out to lots of clubs…if they landed at M&D kind of shows that M&D did not have top talent at tryouts if they were adding after their own rosters were supposedly set How do you know they are on M&D? Rosters aren't posted yet.
