So we confirmed what everyone knows, YJ is the best team on the Island by a wide margin. Way too many holes in some of the other teams to be consistent

Instead of being a nozzle and patting your little Sally on the back for being on a great team, why not congratulate all the Long Island teams for their performances this weekend. FLG 2-2 losing a tight one to M and D Black. Jesters 1-3 and in every game. Overall a great showing by the 3 main Long Island teams.

Lots of anonymous chest pounding on botc! I don't think anyone names their kid Sally anymore but well said. YJ had the best showing this weekend, they are a talented bunch with very few, if any, holes. Their coaching was stellar too. All 3 teams represented well overall. 7-5 record over 12 games against some of the best teams in country.

FLG needs a new coach before recruiting starts for this reason. Many coaches don't want to get anyone near a kid from that type of culture.

That makes no sense. They are recruiting the kid not the coach.

refs played a huge part on LI success, they were tired and just stopped calling 3 seconds (if they even knew what that was) and other crosschecks. It played a big role in all ages.

I'm not sure why more MD teams don't adopt the backer zone for this reason.

Clearly you are new to lax recruiting . They are recruiting culture first and foremost. Same reason colleges don't want to recruit any player on teams with out of control parents. Some college may make exceptions for players who are top-25 in their recruiting class but that usually backfires.

Because it makes it harder to showcase talented defenders for coaches. It will win you games at this level without a doubt, but makes it harder to your defenders to showcase their 1:1 defending skills, lax IQ, etc.

This doesn't mean superstar defenders wont get noticed; it just makes it harder for the next tier to showcase their skills

FLG coaching change is not a surprise, she rubs off as a bit of a control freak when coaching. When watching their attack their girls don’t get one second to play for themselves she calls out everything they do. Probably what separates them from teams like YJ.

Absolute terrible officiating, ironic you LI folks think you won games despite the refs.

Fair point, unless your the backer.

And in most cases, the superstar is the backer. The format makes it really hard for the other defenders or middies who project to D at next level to stand out since they are rarely playing one on one defense.

No college coaches want to go to watch teams play backer. Teams hide w backer to win T shirts. Play man well and a college coach can teach you zone or backer.

FLG coach is great. She wins w a mediocre team. FLG in big trouble next year. Enjoy the success while it lasts.

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK.

I have no issue with a team occasionally going to a backer to give a different look or showcase one of their backers. But playing it 90% of the time isn't helping your defenders or middies.

Someone woke up on the on the angry side of the bed this morning. Man if you are getting this worked up over a team having fun, playing great lacrosse and finding success I can only imagine what you are like on the sidelines during your precious little pumpkins games! Maybe you are just upset that you are not having the same experiences with the families and players on your little cherubs team as these families and players seem to be having.

Hardest position in lax to find is really good defenders.

YJ's defenders are different class than pretty much any other team in this age group in the country. The only time they struggle is if a bad ref doesn't allow any contact on cutters.

If you want to score on YJ, you better do it in transition, because it is really hard in settled play (at least against the starters)

FLG looks lifeless when they play, it’s a good group of girls wonder why they went 1-3 against subpar teams. I think the coaching change is smart.

To be fair, this is the first year they have chosen to play against top competition week in, week out. Even harder as they get older since there will rarely be blowouts as kids get older and defense gets better.

It's tough to adjust to playing at that level every game. I would expect to see improvement as the year goes on.

Anyone have insights on how the liberty/Jester merger will work with tryouts. They seem to be staying “separate” but I would think the top girls on the Liberty black team would want to try and get in the Jester Black team. Will they be looking to create “super” teams.

My daughter needs a change. Looking for suggestions on a Long Island club that plays in good tourneys and good for recruiting.

Hard to say without having more info. The 27 clubs with the best recruiting records are YJ and TJs, followed by Jesters. FLG is also well connected and strong at this age group. They all play in good tourneys.

However, I'd say 90% of the girls on the rosters of their top teams have D1 talent/potential. If your daughter isn't even better than that, then her chances of making those team are probably remote. Also, if she is good enough, those clubs would likely know who she is.

If she is really interested, I'd recommend that she drop in on a practice with any potential teams before tryouts.

I think it’s the Mercy head coach and the St Johns coach. Don’t think it’s a foolish decision… a collage coach coaching you daughter is definitely an upgrade.
