The Club scene is slowly crumbling, it was a matter of time. Too many clubs and not enough players. Look what is going on..Sad that youth sports has come to this.
10 years ago, talent was as good with two/three elite clubs, Now everyone is elite, the problem isn’t the clubs. The tourney directors who make the rules and set divisions are the problem. The tournaments and leagues INSIST on 8 teams in the elite division. (There should only be 7 this year) or 4 teams for an “elite” tournament grouping. Most times there aren’t 4 elite teams in a tourney. But they group them that way to ensure 3 games. It’s the tourney admins and the league directors who are messing it up. 7 of the 8 teams in Hoco Elite this year will give each other games. But the league added an 8th. That team has lost almost every game 15-0. Again, not the club’s fault. Who put that team in the division? The league director. Otherwise the league has 7 competitive teams. Heck, this weekend, True Chesapeake had FCA down by 3 late and 91 had the Crabs on the ropes all game. Again, it’s not clubs who are messing up lax, it’s the tourney directors and leagues. Between level of play and age groupings THEY are the ones ruining lacrosse. Not the clubs required to play by those rules. I'm not sure what the OP was referring to but I agree with this response. I don't know why they had to have 8 teams in elite this year. I realize scheduling is easier with 8 but the schedule got blown up by weather and NL exceptions anyways. One less week of regular season and one more week of playoffs would have been better.

what happened to the Daddy coach? After he drove away 3-4 key players to NL, they hired someone else. Big improvement. Not true at all. The head coach, nominally, was changed a couple of years ago. The dad remains the asst, in name only. He is the only voice on the sidelines and runs the team. That said, the team is much improved this year by adding at least 3-4 new starters from outside the immediate area. They could win the league this year with a little luck.
It is NOT the daddy’s team anymore, he’s at the end of the bench. And he’s a clown
was Daddy coaching the game where Madlax was smoked by the Hawks?

This logic has a rather large hole in it.

Madlax gonna get loose today. 91 MD has gotten worse. Only team in the league that regressed. Elite has been pretty much status quo with the exception of Crabs. Every other team is basically +/- one win from previous years. The coaching change, a 2026 addition, and guest players seem to have made a huge difference.

Question is how many holdbacks and out of state kids did it take to finally get a W against the hawks. Or was it combination of that and new coaching staff. What will some of you do when hoco is done. Also winning hoco isn’t that big of a deal. Check back in after summer let us know how many quality tournaments you won. 26 crabs much better team compared to 27s and seen them those multiple tournaments

Hawks and MadLax added some new questionable players and from outside the area. NL actually lost 2 of their 3 out of area players and a few others from their over-sized roster. Team 91 has one last chance to salvage the season this weekend.

Its Elite, the teams will take whatever holdbacks and out-of-state players that want to play for them. Not affiliated with either of those teams but the better the competition, the more prepared my son will be for high school. Missing the point on why anyone would compare 26 Crabs with 27 Crabs - or any other teams at different age groups.

They will be in the 9th grade in 3 mths. It isn’t about the holdbacks. It’s about the flyins. HOCO just isn’t what it used to be.

DCE sounds like they have an absentee coaching staff. Coaches showing up after the game has started or not at all multiple times. Totally disorganized from the sound of it. I was curious given how strong the 26s are.

Fly-ins are more pathetic than anything. All the clubs are taking their cues from the hs teams.
The high schools who do it would still be in the hunt for miaa titles, without the rentals. But getting out-of-staters keeps them slightly ahead of the Spaulding and Severns who are now actually recruiting locally and developing their own local talent.
The old guard is happy to fly in and use rental players to preserve their dominance in the league.

Team 91 Dad embarrassed himself pretty badly today. Doesn’t matter. Last game with no suspensions to be levied. I guess the Drip Kings playing down with 26’s in box didn’t transfer to field. I think the 2027’s won about 8 games in 7 years of hoco.

For parents with older kids that played - is there generally more or less turnover on teams going into the 9th grade? I've heard there tends to be more but it's not obvious why. It seems like it should be less since there are no more holdbacks being added.

Go peddle your anger somewheres else. No dog in this fight but teams usually vary a ton between age groups - it's all about the coaches so a comparison with the 2024s is meaningless. I don't understand the anger with 91 though. They have a bunch of really strong players and were competitive against the top teams including a 1 goal loss to Crabs. They are comfortably one of the top 5 or 6 teams in the DMV. When I've seen them the parents seem normal - no idea what happened with the one Dad this weekend though. Gotta just assume this is someone who's kid didn't make the team throwing shade.

Please share to continue his embarrassment. 91 Pole goes up high around the neck with a hold. 30 second releasable penalty not done with intent. 91 Dad, who is not the player's father, starts screaming how soft 91 is and how the penalty is okay with him. NL dads turn around and look in his direction and 91 dad, remember not even the player's father, goes even more haywire challenging the NL dads to a fight. He is now out of his mind. Ref comes over, gives a warning and the 91 Dad as other 91 parents start moving away. Btw, this was a 14-5 game at this point with time running out.

I've seen Refs throw parents out of less. 91 (and other clubs) have at least handled that kind of issue in the past well enough. Either suspension for the parent's son or expulsion is typical. Suprised hoco didn't put anything out yet. What's amazing is when people do this and you have careers, especially gov't jobs in this area. What are you doing?

Pretty accurate, but don't forget the context is that this Dad was "coaching" the 91 team from the stands the whole game, at the top of his lungs, and his coaching was 100% negative and about 75% wrong. Even among lacrosse parents, who generally are not a chill crowd, this guy stood out to the point of being comical. But it turned ugly on the hold penalty when he started challenging all the Next Level parents to come fight him. And, I don't think that he was calling the 91 player soft, but rather he was calling the Next Level players (who were up by 8-10 goals) soft, saying that they needed to be checked harder and more aggressively, which is a not so subtle call for the 91 kids to play dirty. And sadly, it is easy to tell who is his son; the poor kid has to be mortified.
