The best attacker in the class is going to St Paul’s. Easily starts as a freshman She is a very talented player, but won't come close to starting as a freshman. Likely doesn't even make varsity. The kid is great but St. Pauls is that deep and they are smart enough not to have a freshman sit on the bench on varsity when she can get JV reps.

First of spsg usually takes 2-5 freshman each year depending on the team. so if that girl is really good, she has a good chance to make varsity. As for starting, very doubtful but I believe they are graduating a lot of seniors. But I really disagree with the point that it’s better to play jv than sit varsity. It isn’t about the game time, it’s about practicing regularly with some of the best players in the country on varsity. That is way more impactful than starting on jv for most girls looking to grow their game.

Are varsity teams making use of the ability to have "swing players" who are listed as varsity but also may play on the JV squad? I understand IIAM says they may use these players to help with #s on JV squads but also for player development. Not sure how I'd feel as a JV player if varsity players all of a sudden show up and take my PT, but on the other hand it's a good way for young Varsity players to get the development that comes from game experience.

Let's be honest here. The reason that many talented freshman are sitting on the bench on varsity is that they have overbearing parents who threaten to leave the school if their baby doesn't play varsity. Most coaches don't have the backbone or administration support to say no to a parent playing mid-six figures per year. In terms of benefits of being on the varsity roster, it really depends on how the coach manages drills and reps in practice. Many coaches give very few reps to backups (I know one in particulate who has a 4:1 ratio on individual or small sided drills, which is similar to how most colleges do it) , other practice them as almost as much as starters.

Live Love Lax Brackets out
Interesting top bracket with M&D, BLC, YJ, FLG, Steps, and Jesters.
Heros in dramatically easier bracket with NEMS, Liberty, Pride, Prime Time and SW. Prime Time probably the only team who stays within single digits
I know brackets tend to be quirky here because teams can request morning or afternoon, but these seem much less balanced than normal

Are you kidding me? Roland Park, Severn, Garrison Forest, all very highly ranked for academics. Even B division schools like Park School, etc very high rated. Public schools mailed it in during Covid and have not recovered.[/quote]
Garrison is not known at all for their academics . Neither is at Paul’s

So you want to play the best teams. I wouldn't want to waste time playing teams who you are gonna beat handily. This is the one tournament where it's OK to go 2-2 if you're a top team against top competition. No worries about missing playoffs

just saw NGLL brackets. anyone else surprised that HoCo is in the B bracket? No. 27s are definitely a B team for them. So they are in a bracket they can actually win a few games rather than get shellacked just to say they are in an 'A' bracket. Old Vegas lines coming out shortly, just waiting on a few last minute looks and research. I'm thinking the gap is getting tighter amongst these girls.

They are great, they are the top-3 but they aren't indestructible. I'd take the under here. M&D and BLC don't play MDU or Pride. So you are really looking at 2 games HG/MDU and HG/Pride If it happens, it would likely be Pride on opening weekend, mainly because Heros will be playing back to back after their BLC game. Even so, that's highly unlikely. Pride would need to win 80% of the draws (which is possible with their draw girl, just highly unlikely)

BOC “private school” posters are then authority on this topic. Got it. Stay in your elitism bubble. I would look where student athletes are committing. Many are very good academic schools. Not an elitist statement, but are many public school players committing to high end academic schools? Really Depends on the school/coach. “Are you kidding me?” Guess private schools are the only option then for great education and top lacrosse recruitment. Not even listing great public schools all over the state. Are we only listing affluent towns as the best public schools? Joke.
BOC “private school” posters are then authority on this topic. Got it. Stay in your elitism bubble. I would look where student athletes are committing. Many are very good academic schools. Not an elitist statement, but are many public school players committing to high end academic schools? Really Depends on the school/coach. Princeton, Loyola, Service Academies have more Maryland Publics Vandy, Duke, UVA, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Stanford have mostly, if not all, IAAM Carolina has more Maryland Publics and NW & Cal only have 1 Maryland Player, both who came from a Public School U of Maryland has a lot of Maryland Publics but 3x the IAAM kids. and the rest of the "top" academic schools don't have a ton of Maryland kids. Don't feel like looking up the rest of the Patriot League, but i would assume it sways private. (Though private still a majority). I know that some schools have caps of private schools they can recruits. One of my son's classmates was a football recruit at a top Patriot league school who was told he could only have an offer if he did his senior year at a private school since the coach had already exhausted his number of private "slots". Haven't heard about this in lax, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

And how much of these girls are making a career out of playing lacrosse professionally? If a girls wants it enough herself and is good enough then she can play in college whether went to public or private.

If a girls wants it enough herself and is good enough then she can play in college whether went to public or private. Isn't the fact that they can't make a career out of playing lacrosse kind of the point? If anything, good players might get extra money to go to a private high school that wants them (not all privates give money, but some do) and then use it as an edge to get into a college that might not otherwise accept them. If a good college is you endgame, deciding which HS is the best stepping stone for your DD makes sense.

100% accurate at every private school in Baltimore.

Lived in the Baltimore area about 8 years and find it so funny how people worry so much about what private HS their kids can go to thinking that gives them an advantage for a college scholarship to save the same money they spend on HS. Or is it more a status symbol in this area? Either way I don’t understand it with some really good public schools. Its a complicated issue, but IAAM is the top lacrosse conference in the country and playing on a team and against those teams is really helpful. From an academic perspective, there was always a gap from public to private and post-covid its widened even more. Its just the reality of the situation. Historically lots of IAAM schools had reputations for great college placement especially into Ivies. As college recruiting placements have become more diverse, this edge had been greatly reduced. There are some great public schools in MD, however, they tend to be in Bethesda, Potomac , and Rockville areas, not around the typical lax hotbeds. If you live in Arundel Country, most of Howard County or anything north of Baltimore, there really aren't many top public school options. In terms of lax, IAAM is clearly the best competition, however, I have been many public school girls who start has freshman develop much quicker than some equally talented IAAM girls who ride the bench until junior or senior year. Carroll County has produced at least one state champion 16 years in a row, dating back to 2006. Some years multiple (Liberty and Century last season for example) Yes you read that right, for 16 straight years a state champion(s) was a Carroll County school. I am guessing you are a PG county parent?

Top private school team drill together but the end of practice is comprised of 16-18 girls doing 7v 7’s or full scrimmages and the non-starters and girls who don’t play do not participate Lots of girls at privates just standing around watching and “learning” from girls who Actually play
If you’re ok with that being the possibility for your kid then you’ll be fine

PG and Montgomery not much in terms of lax. Frederick about same. So how many schools does Carroll have that can contend and over how many 1A 2A 3A 4A? No one can deny talent in Carroll, it’s there.

And your kid is going to get valuable time on JV? Please, you're foolish to think JV practice and 15 games is going to be better for development. That's why club is more important than high school.
