What’s did they do…..#1 transferred to McD because it’s a much better school then St P academically and lacrosse wise. .#2 never prefirsted or held back You are trying to make us believe that the academic and athletics gap between the two schools is so great that he needed to repeat 8th grade? #1 is a very smart kid and is class president at McD. If you meet him, you can tell that "all cylinders are firing." I have a hard time believing such a gap existed in his case. Own it. "We held #1 back, as the rules allow, because it was the difference between being the #38 recruit and the #1 recruit - the difference being "very talented" and "dominant." Top recruits are "dominant." We learned from that experience and started #2 a year late, as the rules allow, and he's showing just as much talent if not more, and is a likely top 10 recruit in his own class." All of those things are true, why not just go there. Nobody (who matters) really objects. As others have noted, the elite 11th grade club teams are nearly all holdbacks. It's not a coincidence and it's very much allowed (for now). Even if the rules change, these decisions were made by the Millon family based on the rules at the time. Why make excuses for the guy?

STP average SAT 1410 #24 private HS in MD McD average SAT 1320 #9 private HS in MD
That's a non reason to take a kid out of a school where's he's excelling in sports and academics, to hold him back at the other school. Both of these schools are in the top 100-200 nationally in nearly every relevant ranking.

I’ll never understand how so many folks are so obsessed with what that man chooses to do with HIS CHILDREN.
It’s so bizzare.

It’s so bizzare. I agree Mark, only thing is that you promote them like they are professional athletes. And the other many may not know, You were totally and vehemently against holdbacks when you first started with your chosen one. Of course that changed LOL

It’s so bizzare. I'll never understand how Millon is so obsessed with publicly marketing and monetizing HIS CHILDREN and making them cornerstones in his business venture. It's so bizarre. Honestly if it was some unapologetic Dad who wasn't actively monetizing his children, nobody would really care.

It will Even up the playing fields at the youth level and give on age lower and middle class kids a fair chance to develop. It will make it more fair for families who can not afford to “game” the system!

He's extremely talented, very hard working, and was provided advantages that others didn't have, such as being featured in club lax offensive sets since age 7. And holding back and transferring from the #30 lax school in the country to the #4-6 lax school in the country. All these things are true. And allowed. The psychological curiosity for me, is since my above point is true, why do holdback/pre-first/started-late/other excuse parents have so many excuses? How about "lax is important to our family's culture and history and yeah we did it. We could afford to put him on a track to upper D1 while similar kids his age go play D2 or lower D1. So what, buzz off." So why are they so quick to lie about all of it?

Exactly the system is broken and benefits Elite families who can afford to “work the system” and take advantage of holding back to gain an advantage! I Can’t wait for the rules to go into effect that will make the sport more fair at the youth age groups! Then, the elite parents will not have that advantage card to play in the developing years!

Kid was doing well academically and was a natural leader so they felt it wouldn’t be healthy to hold him back. Hello McD.

lol at McD being much more academicly strenuous than SP. That's [Censored] I cant speak for McD. But StP does get a lot of ... less academically skilled kids ... passing through its doors. Meh. The two schools are similar in that way. Loyola, Gilman, St Marys, and Severn as well. The kids who enroll before 9th grade are a hodge podge of potential academic and athletic talent, and some of the kids only possess one of the two, and then get ground into shape in "the system." Had they continued on whatever academic trajectory they were on, many of them would not be competitive for 9th grade spots at their schools. But on 9th grade admissions, the MIAA-A schools are fairly similar except BL and Spalding. Very selective - 30% max acceptance rate, usually lower. And BL and Spalding are extremely selective in their own way.....just not particularly academics. Also let's be clear between SP and McD - Neither school is top 100 nationally for academics (I recall, could be outdated, that McD is around 210 and SP was in the 300s). Loyola and Gilman in the 300s as well I recall.

Heard MM through a fit with HOCO when it was suggested his 29 and 30 programs would move out of the Elite bracket. Despite both teams going 0-7 with goal differentials of 20/85 and 33/103, MM claims both programs are ELITE and threatened to pull all 91 teams if they were moved.

I'd love for this rumor to be true, and it's certainly on brand bc Millon pushes all the coaches to "get ready for elite" asap. But the 2028s never had so much as a winning season in AAA/AAAA until 2022 (where I think they went 4-3?). And while he has made coaching moves (and those coaches have made moves) to "push" that 2028 roster towards 2028 elite, Millon hasn't (that I've heard) freaked out on anybody about the 2028s in 4? years of subpar, very non-elite performance.

I think the 2027 team has won about 3-5 games since they started in HoCo over 6 years. This year will be different as about 4 2026's have dropped down.

what will the program do after the vaunted hand-picked 25's leave? Most likely, be sold or be re-branded by Millon pretty quickly unless one of his sons is a highly acclaimed D1 performer, in which case, the kids become the PR generators for 91 (as they have been already).

The youth rosters at 91 MD have always had an astounding level of turnover. To Millon it doesn't matter, because it's a fundraiser for the HS aged teams. Despite all the claims of "we develop kids to be elite!" "we place kids in elite HS!" "We never cut kids!" Those are all dubious claims, easily proven to be false. At all elite clubs (less so ML and Crabs, despite them being the most insufferable generally), the rising 9th graders will find themselves surrounded by holdbacks and kids from NY to OH to NC on the "regular" roster, with even more holdbacks flying in to "drop in" for the team on Day 1 of every tournament. This is absolutely true for 91. The sales pitch is that 5 years of playing for 91 (or Hawks or FCA, etc) at the youth levels will "develop" your kid to earn a spot on the roster in 9th-12th grade. It's a red flag if any coach tells you that, because it's flatly untrue. Well developed or not, if he is not a holdback who has caught the coach's attention for being dominant on the field (of younger kids), your son will not start at elite level ball.

They have NO winter team practices (No box doesn't count as the same). They also don't even do box games or tournaments typically. it was better than a lot of alternatives, just doesn't provide what you need to make elite teams. Mark could also do a lot more to put in discipline among all the teams, not just his 24s, I mean 25s.

There is not a single 91 team that is eligible to play in HOCO that should be playing in Elite this spring. Not a single one. This is not even debatable. It’s a joke that HOCO would allow any 91 team to play in Elite. They haven’t earned it on the field and they all have records that would make the Bad News Bears embarrassed.

Are you aware that everyone who starts in elite is not a holdback? Yeah I am aware, thanks for the knowledge drop. At the HS level, esp 10th-12th grades, very few kids starting in the national top 25 are on-age. Long Island teams have the most on-age starters, MD-DC teams far fewer, and even fewer from the top couple of New England clubs, where boarding school kids are held back in lax for years before they're actually held back in school. LOI announcements this fall featuring 91MD kids include a number of holdbacks from NY and other states (hint: they don't attend practices with 91MD at all). Just to bring this discussion back around fully. So keep believing your on-age Dumbarton 8th grader playing for 91 is going to start on 91MD in HS.

I'll bite. What 2027 team would you move up to Elite to replace them?

Why does 91 have so many kids moving down at 8th grade? Because Team91 actively helps get kids recruited into the MIAA schools. Hence they all drop down and stay at 91 vs Crabs and FCA who recruit all new teams in 8th grade from other club teams as their kids decide to holdback.

No, Mark, 91 does not have better holdbacks (what even is that?) because you help them hold back at the right school. That is a preposterous theory from your own mind. The 2022...I mean...2023..... and 2025 91 rosters have stayed intact because they had Mark's personal supervision, and the other kids and parents were willing to take Mark's advice and #1 hold back, #2, get the ball to the Millon kid at all costs, #3 just trust that if the team is highly ranked, by default, your son MUST be getting high quality developmental training, and by default he WILL be recruited to D1. What an insane proposition....one that only lax parents would believe. By the time they realize those maneuvers were just part of the Mark Millon Show, LLC, they're sitting on the sideline of a Connecticut tournament, paying $300/night for lodging while watching a bunch of 20 year olds from Texas play in their kids' spots. And reviewing Millon's email to them about how their son should consider a couple post-grad years and maybe apply to a D1 school as a freshman when he is 21. #wisdom #eliteplacement #passitto9 #9isopen

I think the 2027 team has won about 3-5 games since they started in HoCo over 6 years. This year will be different as about 4 2026's have dropped down. Crabs and FCA get new kids in 8th grade because for some reason Parents think crabs kids go to BL and FCA kids go to CH. none of that is true and playing for them give you zero advantage over any other kid to go there. Those schools have plenty on talent that want to go there. Playing for certain club doesn’t make them like you more.

The 91 27s don’t have any kids who held back from the 26 team. The only new kids are from other programs.

I know for sure that it’s not even close to half. There are only a handful of holdbacks on that team. But I know you could guess who they are.
