What’s here? The only place girls can play lacrosse? Guessing you never played the game and living through your daughter. Well, it is a Maryland lacrosse discussion board.

May be early to think about the summer but I'm starting to get emails so curious. Will those who did AU Futures return this year? Was it worth the time and $$? It looks like American Select has added a 2028 division this year, will anyone be trying out for that event instead? Think that one's more expensive, but seems like it could be a more competitive event for girls who are looking for that. Anyone have feedback?

American Select is almost $1k plus hotels, food for no coaches looking at a 2028. AU is a great concept but they need to make improvements with the coaches, and the schedule for what they are charging. There were 2 Maryland teams last year with combined 28/29s, curious to see if they will have 2 Maryland teams again with just 28s.

American Select was very well organized last summer. However, unless you really feel the need to have even more lacrosse after spring and then a summer of tournaments, I'd skip both until the summer after 8th grade. Even at that age, college coaches aren't watching, but it gives the kids a sense of what the competition looks like at an elite level and a chance to play with new kids. A few middle-level players mixed in, but mostly top players at least with Maryland, even having two teams. Your kid will get a chance to see how they're doing and should have a solid coach. Summer after the 7th is not worth it for all but the most die-hard kids that would rather play another lax tournament in 90+ weather rather than do other summer activities. There should be no fear of missing out here.

As PP said, AS is only playing, and maybe 1 short practice before the 1st game begins. An over night camp with lacrosse, coaching, and fun with dorm life experiences seems to be a more well rounded way to spend $700.

We did AU Futures last year but won't see either this year, just a few camps. Last year at AU Futures, the talent was very low at 26+ which were eligible for American select. I would expect futures talent to be much lower this year.

That's going to be a watered down A bracket with all those teams that would struggle in the B bracket. Based off current rankings the two divisions should be: Coppermine (1) MD United (3) M&D Black (4) Crush (5) Heros Greem (6) Pride Red (19) Skywalkers (22) CCLax (27) FCA (28) Stars (35) Heros White (38) HoCo Black (42) Next Level (48 NEMS (70) 3D Va Metro (84) B league teams ranked higher than NEMS: M&D Red (49) Pride White (59) MD United West (62) HoCo Pink (69) 3 best teams in one division? You must be an MDU parent wanting to sneak in[/quote] Divisions won't be even. There will be a north/south and South will be much weaker. This was an agreement made to get the Virginia clubs to enter so they would have games closer to home. Been this way for years. The only exception is for clubs with A/B teams, they will split up the team regardless of geography.

". There will be a north/south and South will be much weaker."
Do not underestimate the schedule makers giving M&D the easiest path forward.

Do not underestimate the schedule makers giving M&D the easiest path forward. Unless the divisions are so out of whack, all the top teams should have somewhat easy schedules. There's so many average to bad teams now with 16. There's potential for at least 3-4 teams to go winless.

For the last two years M&D has been in the North division with Crush and Coppermine so they will likely be in the North division rather than the South.

Happy New Year! First tournament of the year this weekend, Indoor National Championships at Spooky Nook. Who comes out on top in each bracket? Arctic: M&D Black Atlantic: Pride Red Indian: Crush Pacific Coppermine Crush over Pride Coppermine over M&D Coppermine over Crush for championship Got 3 out of the 4 playoff teams. Pride had the game in hand against Philly Blast and lost it at the end. M&D had to play man down for a good while in the 2nd half against Coppermine, that didn't help.

The whistles were constant and disrupted the game flow. The officials overall weren't consistent and continues to go downhill. Not an excuse but rather a fact of the state of the officiating affected ALL teams.

By stating the fact that the team got 4 yellows (without debating the validity of them), thus landing the team man down for an extended period of time, the PP acknowledges it was the losing teams fault they lost. Where’s the excuse? Stop trying to create drama.

Sorry M&D dad, so sensitive. Again, reading the comments & the excuses. The excuse is they played with man down. If it's not an excuse why mention it, it's apart of the game, and happens in every game. Just stating the observations of the comments. And not just the M&D game had comments/excuses, there were other posts mentioned the "should have". No drama, maybe don't be so sensitive.

Where’s the excuse? Stop trying to create drama. I agree. As someone trying to learn about other teams that we play often or not so often, it is helpful for some of the information. No one can think that playing man down for the last 10 minutes against a top team won't have an impact- that is good information, not an excuse. Also someone directly asked if Philly Blast was much improved (since our MD teams don't see them as much) so saying Pride and Crush did not have their best games helps to learn a little about Philly Blast and where they might fit in while also taking into consideration that they did beat Pride and come close to Crush. So those posters who and post information- thank you and please don't let people on this board who claim you are making excuses discourage you!
