Yes lots of schools do this.

And a lot of schools will play 1 or 2 public or out of state teams in the early season to get those kids into a game.

Playing a public school team or out of conference team would not apply to the transfer rule. It's only if the player competes in an MIAA game.

Playing in a game doesn’t matter for the transfer rule. Only being on a varsity roster.

It’s why so many CH kids transfer if they are sophomores on FS or JV- They know their chance at making varsity as an upperclassman is slim. And the chance of playing is zero.

Playing in game does matter, there was a kid who transferred to Gilman from LB after being on varsity as soph, but was injured and never played in game

What level teams are in the Future Stars Showcase on Sunday? Will these be HS varsity squads or mostly JV type players. Just wondering if its worth taking my boys to go watch or not (we live pretty close).

Besides parents, do schools keep an actual game log of who played and perhaps how many minutes? I ask because lax is a game of many substitutions.

So that explains why CH always plays a cupcake to start the year. To get all those freshmen and sophomores in a game. And dissuade them from transferring.

"Teams will only be made up players from the 2025 and 2026 class. This is a High School event only....no club teams are permitted to participate"

It's always a good idea to take players to watch lacrosse games. They need to see watch how their positions are being played to see what they can do better to improve their own game.

Saw on IL that the top 5 ranked BL attackman who is a freshman at UNC didn’t play over the weekend due to injury.

He seems injury prone, which is not a good thing . D1 is a tough physical game at attack. Those 6 ft and above D poles are not shy of wacking the heck out of you.

He's red-shirting. Having some type of surgery for back. If healthy he'll be a impact AAC starter

Inquiring minds want to know

St Mary’s?
You mean daddy ball lacrosse STM? That school? Have a few good players, daddy’s overrated son and his friends. Whatever move along.

A few??? Sounds like a Spalding parent. How did the 2 games this fall go against MSJ???

Spalding will finish dead last this year and then head back the B league where the belong.

What's with the mass exodus from former CHC kids from UNC...Seems like that was the pipeline for many years for CHC kids to go to UNC.... What happened to 2020 Calvert Hall star that started for UNC last year....He is also no longer on any roster and seemed to disappear form the lacrosse world?

No, he may be a starter at 24 or 25 like Logan W at MD was , but will not be an impact player. Doesnt have the size

Why would anyone in their right mind transfer from UNC to Towson unless they were flunking out or couldn't afford the tuition?

You realize that lax isn't the only thing these kids do, right? It's not their whole identity. They have lives outside of the lax field. And aren't required to play lax forever to appease the crusty old quarter zips.

Good luck to Cole. He was a tough opponent on the lax field for many years. And he's a great young man off the field too.

Let’s be real. Tough opponent because he reclassed a couple times, I’m sure because that’s what dad and mom wanted and not what the he wanted, and he has burned out. He should have graduated last year. I’m happy for the kid. Now he can go live his life. He’s a good kid off the field, which will take him much further than lacrosse ever will.

Maybe he's homesick. Maybe his family needs him to be closer to home. Maybe he wanted to be closer to his girlfriend. Maybe he wants to play football and lax. Who knows?

Kids get homesick, miss their support system, deal with family issues.

Add to that all of these kids are coming off of Covid and didn't leave their houses for a year?

And most of these kdis didnt have a normal recrutment. They did virtual tours, orientations etc etc.

That just isn't the same.

Its why the transfer portal is bigger than ever and stacked with HUNDREDS of lacrosse players right now. From almost every program in the nation. Even the top ones.

Recruiting season. Where are the 27s going?

Lots of hopefuls headed to Loyola before the inevitable coaching change? Parents with visions of grandeur sitting the pine at Calvert Hall? Fresh crop headed to St P's to chase the inevitable lax rebirth? Going to Gilman to dominate the B league next year? Out of towners filling the dorms at BL? Unfinished darkhorse business in AACO?

Lots of storylines!

I wanna hear all about MSJ cornering the Zingos market, and Spalding welcoming in 17 transfers from StJ's who can't get past the admissions board!

Name on the degree matters for a very short period of time. Get yourself a job and work hard...it will take you places on its own

I disagree. It matters in certain fields. If you want to apply to a top med, law or biz school, a degree from a top academic undergrad will be very helpful to have. If you want to get into finance right out of undergrad it will also matter. That said, I would rather hire a kid from a mediocre college who graduated at the top of his class over a kid who coasted at a top school.
