Scrimmages from Saturday (Just Starting Lineups) West Islip over St. Anthony's, 4-1 Huntington over Massapequa, 6-4 Massapequa over West Islip, 4-2 Huntington over HHHE, 4-1
Basically, all the matches were get-in-playing-shape events with the exception of the Huntington/Massapequa game. Both teams seemed to have a little "edge" to them with some very hard hits that were picked up by everyone watching. Almost seemed like the players were after starting spots and respect for later in the season.

Comsewogue beat Sachem North in a "scrimmage" 11-5 yesterday, certainly a shocking result - North played with their recent player additions. Defensively Sachem was a little ragged although the quarterly goalie switches could explain everything - no rhythm, just practice which is the right approach for a scrimmage.
Comsewogue was better in the faceoffs throughout the game; their zone defense seemed to pick up the individual Sachem North attackmen fairly easily - including transfer Gamblin which was a surprise, but surely just early season struggles. Let's see what happens two months from now.

Hicksville (2-0) over Cold Spring Harbor, 5-1 Hicksville's Anthony Lomangino and Defense Pitch a "One Hitter" As a sideline observer today, accolades to Lomangino - some nice keeping throughout the game - strong Hicksville defense against a limited "individualized" attack from the CSH midfielders. Cold Spring Harbor had issues with basic fundamentals - particularly catching and ground balls - seemed to be a problem all game. Things were not helpe with the unsportsmanlike penalty to the CSH coach. Setting your team up, struggling offensively, to play two men down in the first game of the season shows that the program needs to take a deep breath in week one. Hicksville looks solid; CSH was hopefully just having early season jitters.

While the Warriors keeper played an exceptional game, the fact is that this is the second straight game where the Dalers were not ready at the opening whistle. This is a coaching problem where the three all-county attackmen need to come out more ready to apply pressure for the full match.

Is Sachem North the team that recruits and has "transfers"? Yes, several key new players came into the district this year - whether recruited, transferred, or otherwise is your choice. The more concerning aspect is that the Sachem School District has now established a Board of Education level policy dealing with Non-Resident Tuition Rates. This entire discussion opens a new element in the public versus private education debate. Approval for Establishment of Non-Resident Tuition Rate RECOMMENDED ACTION: “that, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education approves the tuition rate for the child of a nonresident to attend the Sachem School District. The formula to calculate the tuition rate for a regular education pupil is determined by the New York State Department of Education. The estimated tuition rate for a student, full day K–6, for the 2009-10 school year is $4,972.00. The estimated tuition rate for a student, grade 7-12, for the 2009-10 school year is $8,056.00. The actual 2009-10 and 2010-11 school year tuition rates have not yet been calculated. Therefore, it is recommended, if in the event a child of a non-resident is approved to attend full day K-6 in the Sachem School District, the tuition charged will be $4,972.00 and for a student to attend grade 7-12 in the Sachem School District, the tuition charged will be $8,056.00 and shall be modified upon receipt of the 2010-11 tuition rates.”

Interesting, I was curious to see if the other states are catching up to NY (LI) in lacrosse so I did some research on Cherry Creek.
Cherry Creek HS has a student population of over 3,500 compared to 1,100 for Wantagh. So cleary their division would be different.
Also, found out that Cherry Creek was 2010 Colorado state Champs so I guess NY (LI) still may have an edge.
Seems like the have a pretty good program for Colorado:
"Besides 11 State Championships, 23 All-Americas, and many All-State awards, the Cherry Creek program has had several Doc Stabler award winners (top Scholar-Lacrosse Player in Colorado), and has sent a steady stream of players to top Division I, II, III, and Club programs across the country."

Cherry Creek came east to showcase against teams from the region and potentially tour some east coast colleges. Effectively, this successful varsity scholastic program feels that this particular group is special and wants to afford the team members the chance to play some east coast (hotbed) teams and tour selected campuses. To understand more about this program, check our their web site at : Cherry Creek Lacrosse.

Ward Melville over Garden City, 10-7
I did not think that anyone would break the double digit mark against Garden City this season - excellent game by Ward Melville. The Ward Melville defense was up to the task all game. Garden City's attack was getting hit hard and from the sidelines, it did not look like they were comfortable against the Ward Melville defenders. Garden City came out after halftime and looked unprepared for the restart. Seemed that the team lost their composure with several flags and short handed situations. For an early season matchup, this one was very intense on the field.

Chaminade 10 - St. Anthony's 5
Score midway through the second quarter was 4-2 in favor of St Anthony's. Chaminade then scored eight unanswered goals until letting up a goal in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter. The last couple of seasons, Chaminade has won the opening match-up only to lose later in the playoffs. Let's see what happens this year.

Wed, April, 6th....Huntington over Islip 10-7, sloppy game Hunt needed good Goal play to pull out after being down 4-1 early. Neither team going anywhere the way they played today.
Comsewogue, SWR, maybe Eastport, teams to beat in Class B.

Monday, April 4th Results
Freeport handles Malverne/East Rockaway, 14-2 Uniondale over Wheatley, 7-4 Commack double Riverhead, 12-6 Mepham defeats Calhoun, 11-9 (5-1 in Fourth for Win) Sachem North crushes Half Hollow Hills West, 19-3 (16-2 Half)
Highlights Sachem North cages ten goals in the second period - Sachem North is average 18 goals per game through their first four matches this season. Truth be told, you do not need to play much defense with numbers being posted on that scale. "Truth be told", out of town recuits will do that for you. Transfer player Gamblin has been getting up to five goals per game on average for Sachem North. Hicksville is surely missing those goals winning by one or two in the important games.

Huntington's goalie played well in the game.

St. Pauls over Garden City, 7-5 (Non-League) Well done by St. Paul's traveling from MIAA to compete against some of Long Island's best varsity squads. Spoke with some folks from MIAA who made the trip down for the game with their boys - excellent match, close competition.
