91 played Express at NLF. Not a big difference there or anywhere. Especially at this grade level. 91 got beat easily by Tri State and DC Express a few weeks ago at the Great 8. It’s 91 Maryland and then like 10 teams after that.

Great, can't wait. Paying $100 for the privilege of trying out for a team that carries 30 players and we've been there 4 years. We're in HS, how many new spots can possibly be open for kids to tryout? Disgustingly they don't even put the tryout fee towards the yearly bill. Maybe they'll create a B team that can barely throw or catch, great idea. These clubs are all the same.

My point…kinda…there are good situations out there. Also, the 30 man rosters is on the parents. Why would you pay for it? How about having the director guarantee that the roster won’t exceed 25. And if it does have them refund your money. What’s the worst they say? No…okay, next. YOU are the customer, don’t let your son become just another entry on a balance sheet. Respectfully make demands as you would with anybody you are a paying a service for.

Best post of the summer so far

They should win the FLG Big X this weekend. Best team in there is Team Huntington and they are in the other bracket.
They probably lose to Roar too

Yup and rumor is they are losing their top 2 players to A teams, where honestly they belong. They are not B players.

S2S plays mickey mouse tourneys to boost ranking. When they play real teams they usually lose - this is at most of their age levels btw.

Who cares about rankings in HS ages?!?!?
The goal should be finding a team where your son will have a role and play quality minutes on the field.
If they have a goal of playing in college, access to showcases should be one of your deciding factors too. Nobody cares about rankings anymore

Clubs won't do the heavy lifting in recruiting for your son, although they say the will. Leverage the clubs going forward for their ability to get into good showcases

If "they have a goal of playing in college" and they play on a B team you might want to discuss realistic expectations because at least half of the kids on A teams are not good enough to play in college.

Division 1 you are correct and parents need to do that more. But there is plenty of opportunities in D2 and D3 for all players and that is fact. And yes, you must do the work and not rely on the club until the end of the process. You should all be discussing this with your sons club.

It is important IMHO in the sense that if your son wants to play in college that (a) there is a place for most players and (b) you have to play, not ride the bench, on the best team possible at this point.

What makes the best team? The team with the best coaches? The team with the best win/loss record? The team that plays in better tournaments? The team that practices more than the rest? The team that can actually help the recruiting process?

Depends on what you are looking for and don't forget the kid's enjoyment should be number one.

Rankings dont matter for club lacrosse especially at the high school level. The only thing it does is a high ranking usually means they are playing against a good level of competition, win or lose, so in that sense, that is what rankings are good for.

It is correct, most kids dont go on to play lacrosse...D1 lacrosse that is. There are almost 75 D2 and almost 300 D3 lacrosse programs. If a kid wants to play lacrosse in school, they can find it

The best clubs, at least for high school, IMHO is: the one your kid is having fun on, plays against the best competition so they get better, and helps with recruiting. Most wont help with recruiting at the high level D1 / D3 colleges unless your kids is exceptional, but some of them will help with recruiting if they their rank list is not at the high level colleges, unless there is a connection. Sadly, there are many clubs that promise help with recruiting and dont deliver. Your best bet is to reach out to the graduating / graduated years to see.

Not only would you be better of spending your money on tutoring for grades but if your club does not help with recruiting, skip club and save the money for prospect days and showcases, which they themselves are a minefield to navigate. I do agree the one thing being part of a top club does get you is access to invite only showcases.

Now if your kid is exceptional, lets say, top 20 at your position, all of this is moot because someone will find them. Conversely, if your goal is not to go to a high academic, top college, you will find a spot for your kid. This is the bell curve for probably 80% of the kids out there. Of course there are outliers

Why, because they're smart enough not to travel to travel out of state every weekend. We're fine being underrated. Guess you forgot what happened against the chilly club who claims they have a B team but doesn't.

Ouch. The Penguin Club team is just about out of gas. They will get rolled at their next tourney and then the director can hit parents up for next year's tuition the day after. MAybe they will have a 'C" team because they are soooo good?

Rankings done independently are interesting and I believe a lot of people care about them. The ones that don’t are ranked low and the ones that do are ranked higher. Lol…at least it gives you another factor when looking at potential teams your son should try out for.

I'm sure they'll have some more B tournaments to enter their stud team into. Parents must be so proud. Didn't they lose to S2S and CSH/Regs, or are they claiming it was their non existent B team.

Express and ECE are far away the best 2nd level teams on Long Island. They certain all stepped while FLG, 91, S2S, True Blue and Turtles all seemingly took a step back in my opinion.

Express won back to back championships vs. ECE.

My son went the D3 route. School and atmosphere just wasn't what he wanted. Transferred to large university playing club. Half the kids on his team either transferred in or didn't want to give up enjoying college just to lax. Most teams in MCLA top division can play with any D2/D3 and probably lower end of D1. He couldn't be happier. Loves the school and is able to experience all that they offer socially and outside the university. Don't get caught up in D1 or bust. Pick the school first without thinking about lacrosse.

Not sure about that. If people get the A team vs B team mentality out of their heads and stop jumping teams, B teams can develop into great squads. My friends son is a 2023 and plays for 91’s B team. They all decided to stay together and I think they are ranked in the top 10 in the country and they have 8-10 D1 commits on the team. The A teams was ranked # 4. That’s a legitimate reason to stay and develop on a B team.

So true. B teams actually used to be very hard to make. But entitled parents will annoy directors and have their son placed on a team they can’t ordinarily make. If you have ask to practice with the top team or take a spot that is contingent on not a lot of playing time…Your son's not good enough doesn’t mean he is a not good player, just the other kids are better.

That is the one team out of hundreds of other B teams that don't have a single college caliber player. And I don't mean someone who gets on a college roster and stands on the sidelines for 4 years.

They have a philosophy of Long Island only, correct? I get that and see the benefits. But you have to travel occasionally, especially for HS. They played Express 4 times and lost in the Championship game twice. You want more variety than that.

Why do you need variety? lacrosse is lacrosse. Play the same tea, 10 times and you have a different outcome each time. Even if you lose all 10 games, so what? PARENTS and CLUB DIRECTORS are the only ones who care about wins and losses. You need to judge success based on two simple factors: Is your son better at the end of the year than he was at the beginning and did he have fun?

You make a valid point, at this age I look around at the kids' faces in between games and I wonder how many of them are actually having fun? Seems like parents, clubs, teams, peers, whatever it is has taken all the joy out of it. Probably the same goes for other sports, by high school age it seems to become more of a chore than a source of enjoyment.
