A kid has to sit out if he was a varsity-rostered athlete.
Kids who played JV or F/S can transfer without penalty.
You also get an exception if your residency changes by 30 miles.
Not entirely true. The Glenelg kids who transferred had been varisty rostered players, but did not have to sit a year.
Because they didn’t touch the field in an MIAA varsity sport that fall.
Not according to the original comment. Didn't say anything about playing.

How many borders did BL bring in for the 22/23 school year? How many other schools in the MIAA have the ability to this?

Heard the same. Alumni wanting to send their kids there should think twice. Crabs is involved in this whole boarding mess as well. Local kids getting cut or moved to the end of the bench.

It's not just BL. Calvert Hall loves to rent out-of-state kids for a year. It's easier than developing players.

Plenty of examples if you look at the roster. Including kids who will be too old to play in the league after their JR years.

Same old whining from the peanut gallery! Baltimore private schools have been recruiting and boarding players for decades.Bending and curving the rules. This wouldnt happen if parents didnt let it happen. The fact that other parents are somehow bitter or mad at a system that they willingly pay into from atleast midle school onwards is as comical as the entitlement they demand for their little Johnny who is flat out not good enough.
Every MIAA sport recruits kids. Some just do it better than others. Example: Once the non Baltimore schools started to ramp up to keep up the landscape changed alot. Not just in Lacrosse!

Nobody is or has done it on the scale that BL is starting to do it in Baltimore. They need to leave MIAA and join the Founders League up North where all the other boarding schools play.

Exactly, CH took 3 straight titles with GA recruits, McD out recruited Gilman for the wonder boy, BL is getting in on the act with its new boarding facilities. The list goes on and on. Cant wait for the out of state boys to start becoming the norm , watch the tears flow from locals.

From the top to the bottom of the A league, NO ONE cares about boarding students. Every team in the league is signed up to play against the best in the nation. HOWEVER YOUR FAVORITE SCHOOL ACCOMPLISHES IT.

If my kid wants to sit on the bench for a top half team all 4 years that’s his choice. And if he wants to see field as a sophomore on Varsity at a bottom half team, that’s his choice too.

If you don’t like it, play for a B conference team or go to public school.

Now that NHSLS is done and most of the summer tournaments are over, who looks good for the 2023 season? Any surprises out there? Who's winning the recruiting, developmental and transfer portal game?

What about the ooc/oos kids that live with some of the coaches? Is that considered boarding for the non boarding schools?

No, that is ok with MIAA . LOL. The MIAA doesnt enforce much as everyone is aware. , If you want to know how much they look the other way, remember Gilman football recruitment. Not one word was said, It was Gilman parents that finally put an end to it.

The 19 year old rule is not enforced , There have been a few ( not many ) double holdbacks who have played.

News Flash: McDonogh is a co-Ed school that houses mainly juniors/ seniors in multiple sports. BL is a single sex school that is looking to put mainly lax players at any age in their dorms. Neither is good for the sport, but BL is laser focused and should look to play a National schedule with their national players.

Nothing Gilman did for football was outside of the rules for the league. Biff just spent more than everyone else.

19 year old rule was enforced last year with CH.

Biff was always going to be a flash in the pan. When the fire starts he rolls out and leaves the mess for someone else to clean up. He has done this many times. He left that program decimated. Gilman has no JV. The Varsity is terrible. So what he did might not have been outside the rules, but his legacy is turn & burn, then get out of town. That program is in worse shape then when he arrived. Meanwhile MSJ, CHC, Spalding & McD have very stable programs that still send kids to the collegiate ranks. They have not completely altered the system to do so. They all have JV teams at this point as well. Lets see where St. Francis is in 2-3 years.

McDonogh offers 5-day boarding. Most boarders come from VA, PA, DE, and the far-reaching counties of MD. They must leave campus on the weekends. They are not bringing in athletes from the mid-west or west coast. I’m sure there are exceptions to the rule where a kid would stay with a friend or coach during the weekend, but I am unaware of any situation where that is happening.

Only for MIAA games. All other games, the 19+ year olds could still play. Probably leveled the playing field a little against Culver and other PG programs.

Just making sure readers know both sides of the woke McD administration. Many issues there over the years. School struggles with its public perception. Have seen many sellout for the sports aspect only to be disappointed later.

McD is a woke mess for students who dont agree with them. It is MD and it does get its share of wokers tho.

Has had several issues the school should have addressed in last few years, yet choose to act high and almighty without any self awareness. Typical of them.

You cant be serious? He flagrantly broke the rules without anyone saying a word due to $ and winning. Nothing else. Easy one was that he recruited for Sports and paid for everything ( room, board, tuition, etc ) for several players from out of area, clear violation which even Ray Charles could see.

MIAA turns it head on many issues unless they are so clearly obvious that the entire population knows . Or we can believe you that they are all choir boys.

Not defending Biff but no rules being broke by him or anyone else paying for kids at any of the schools. Gilman didn’t even know what was going on half the time which was the bigger problem. More rules being stretched by things like waiving club fees for kids and using that as an inducement and the like.

The issue is with the loose and weak rules with the league.

Every MIAA sport recruits kids. Some just do it better than others. Example: Once the non Baltimore schools started to ramp up to keep up the landscape changed alot. Not just in Lacrosse!

So spot on! The recruiting battle has been raging in this league for decades.(atleast the 80's) Funny to watch parents without a clue pay for 8 years of club lacrosse only to find out the high schools are recruiting smarter, bigger and faster kids. Then go ahead a pay the tuition for High School(which means you allow it to happen to little johnny) and cry the blues about the school.

If you can afford MCD it is worth it. Best decision parents made.

McD is all good, best money spent !

McD has its share of issues. But I wont post them here. But you can Google "McDonogh investigation"

Why are you such a HATER? It's a good school - did McD do something to you?

McD is a woke mess for students who dont agree with them. It is MD and it does get its share of wokers tho.

Has had several issues the school should have addressed in last few years, yet choose to act high and almighty without any self awareness. Typical of them.

Haha - The "OLD" in you just seeps out, YOU are so BITTER, better for you to step off and move on.
