What would be the best public school if all players played on age and attended the school they were zoned to attend? I’m thinking Severna Park or Northern (Calvert) may be tops.

The School's Board and Administration aspire to be the best all boys academic K-12 in Baltimore, which is great. Gilman needs to be honest with its stakeholders. Don't make the lacrosse program suffer under false pretenses: if you're not going to "actively recruit" 7th and 8th grade student athletes to play sports, abandon the A Conference. Loyola went through this same soul searching process over the last decade with their football program. LB football successfully repositioned itself as Independent and eventually joined the B Conference in an effort to re-join the A Conference, which they're doing this upcoming fall. Honesty is the best policy.

Ch Attackman

Watched a 2023 scrimmage today - the hawks v dc express. Hawks had a lefty attackman who was originally a 2021, then re-classed to a 2022 and played at St Mary’s. He committed to Monmouth his senior year and graduated from St Mary’s. He is now playing for the 2023 hawks. Hmm.

That seriously can't be true - right?

It would be hard to beat Towson or Dulaney. About 4 miles apart and contain probably a quarter or third of the varsity squads of CH, LB, BL, SP, Gilman, Friends, Curley.

2nd Rung: Hereford, Bel Air, Severna Park, Kent Island, South River, and the northern HoCo publics. Maybe CSC. No to N Calvert.

Less sure about: the MoCo areas where ML, NL, and BLC draw from, as they also cover multiple private HS and would be split among multiple public HS districts.

If it was a scrimmage, it's really dense, but nobody should really care except the actual 2023 Hawks parents who are getting the short end of that deal.

That said, as much as I'd love this to be true, it does not sound true. What # was he wearing.....should be easy to back check against the Hawks and Monmouth rosters.

50% of the Hawks 2023 team wears a St. Mary's helmet. They have at least 2 attackman in the class of 2023 that go to St. Mary's and one is a lefty.

I love that you’re trying to make it ok. If he wants to get some reps in there is a college level mens league in the area he can play in. Lots of kids who just graduated are playing on teams there.

What is pathetic is thinking it’s ok for a kid to play down 2 years.

They missed some obvious ones to be politically correct and nice.

Hard to put some of these kids on the list when they spent all spring bullying teams like Chesapeake, Eastern Tech, Perry Hall and Crofton.

But I guess they really showed what they had in their playoff wins over Megenthaler, Linganore, Damascus, and Poly.

The Catonsville goalie is good enough to be on this list, but first team is a nod to his reputation. I don't know how to compare a goalie who sees no quality competition all year to guys who have a good season against top competition game in and game out.

You can say the same about the Loyola kids also nod to their rep.

Apparently the NCAA winning coach thinks differently.

I do not think they got it right on a few of these which happens And yes some make it on reputation but as is the case every year the last few can always be debated and the list is strong . Also think the Player of the year is very very debatable player just turns the ball over too much and couldn’t get team past the semi finals after a late game turnover leads to last second loss for his team just way too inconsistent and disappears in big spots . Think MCD player was probably more deserving

St. Johns is in DC so their players wouldn't be eligible for all state in MD.

No Mark, He doesnt as the BL doesnt. But both BL wins this year and McD wins next year. Neither will see the field in college. Several D and Middies should win but wont and will see the field in D1 one day

Yes, At least one got the nod due to his reputation based on a college coaches’ hunch.

Kind of hard to give someone first team when they played no one and a kid’s best performance this year was in a loss in the public state semifinals….to a very mediocre team.

Watched BL kid in an earlier season game after getting shutdown fake an injury complaining to everyone turned me off he then had a few nice games but then disappeared in playoffs again especially with season on the line . McD player was not good all year but caught fire late. Spalding mid was just ok. Honestly think this was difficult to hand out this year which is why winning team deserved more

I agree there wasn’t a complete standout that carried their team. Agree on assessment of BL player who was the winner watched in playoff game when D pressed out and made him have to work for the ball he almost looked like he quit and disappeared then the back breaking turnover Would of went with winning team player this is two years in a row losing team player won. At least last year was in finals. This year the winner lost in semi As far as other MIAA selections the last few will always be debated the CHC player was very deserving

Down year for MIAA or the rest of the country is catching up and passing the 5-9 stick skilled MD players. Coach of Year is someone who has done so little with so much the last 5 years. Whole league is rift with mediocracy at this time from coaches to players. That is not to say none will play D1, some will.

McD kid will see field in D1 after transferring to a different team who will put up with/ need his “me” ball.

Down year for the MIAA why? Calvert Hall 5 stars underperformed. 4 teams ranked in the top 10 nationally. What more do you want from a league?
