A fresh face at SP is needed. No special favors for booster Mom's or only playing favorites.

I’m still confused how someone makes the team when they were never on the watchlist? But people still think this is legit?

It was great to see that girls lacrosse was televised on ESPN U yesterday, however the competition level was much to be desired. Who is making these decisions? It’s great to grow the game though.

There are girls on that team that are deserving, but it's such an embarrassment when someone that is NOT on the watchlist makes the team...you know phone calls were made. That player took it from another player that WAS on the watchlist. How sad.

Perhaps those players should have been on the watchlist. Maybe some on the watchlist should never have been on the watchlist.

What’s the purpose of the watchlist then, is it just to say your on a watchlist even though they aren’t picking from the watchlist? Does this make sense to anyone else? Or just proves that it’s all a joke?

It would be legit if independent coaches chose players that make up the teams and the watchlist but when club coaches pick, it loses its legitimacy.

The watchlist is created by CSE mostly based on who played in UA Underclass. Not everyone tries out for UA Underclass so there are going to be some people missing. The UAAA Senior Team is selected by Inside Lacrosse with the help of college coaches. The watchlist is just a way to generate views for CSE and more importantly to try to get kids to tryout for UA Underclass and not American Select.

Thanks for the info, but still doesn’t add up. If they are the ones holding the event & putting out this huge watchlist it seems like it should mean that’s where the final pick would come from…but that’s just my opinion. If the best of the best are to have been chosen & played for UA, why would they have to look outside of UA watchlist?

Because the best of the best were not on the watchlist. There are 2 girls on the South that didn’t participate in the UA underclass, but they are 2 of the best at their positions.

Nike AS event was absolutely legit with phenomenal talent. In no way am I affiliated with the organizers, but absolutely well run: Venue, scheduling, talent level, officiating, etc. so many great there every day with exception of today. Most games were very competitive.

I am annoyed watching the ua senior game on tv. Why do they make the girls use sticks that they aren’t used to playing with. Makes for a sloppy game that doesn’t help the sport grow

AS is a huge money grab at the end of summer that looked like pick up games with uniforms. Hope you enjoyed the $2000 for weekend to play with some really average players on all teams.

I’m guessing your daughters team didn’t win & that’s why you are bitter? I’ve seen the rosters & to call them average players is an ignorant comment

I would totally agree with stick comment if the sloppiness wasn’t so one sided. The South was getting beat on the circle, beat on ground balls, beat on shot placement/accuracy. The south just got beat all the way around.

They need to stop using the word “best” when repressing this game. The MD girls did not represent well at all! They were outplayed by a team that played as a team!

wow, a lot of negativity toward the south team because they lost. My daughter was on the South team and the whole team was nothing but smiles after the game. Would they have liked to win? Sure, but they had the best 2 day experience and would not have traded it for anything. They made new friends and had the chance to play on a national stage.

Not bitter at all. The South team showed on a national stage what those of us have witnessed for years in club & IAAM - lack of teamwork/selfish play, sloppy stick work, flopping in the 8m for FPS goals, inept defense and inconsistent goal tending. And as expected, this resulted in a loss. If the truly deserving senior players were chosen, the score differential wouldn’t have been so great. But politics prevailed as is usually the case in Maryland and these same girls will continue to think that they are indeed the best players in their class. Will be interesting to see how this translates for them in college.

The negativity towards the South team is not because they lost, it’s because of how a majority of them got there. Make it a fair process and win or lose congratulations to them for the experience. Make it about who you know and the calls that can be made, you take the validity of the entire team away, even from the ones who are deserving. This event, especially on the girls side, is no longer an event of merit. It became a popularity contest when CSE took over and most are over it. Good luck to all of them in college.
