They added the Fall and winter season last year that cost you $800. The spring OBLL was $200. The summer tournament season was $1650 (an increase of $50 to the prior year). If you made the team, you did not have to play fall of winter.

Does anyone know when Express is doing tryouts?

Good question. Also, does anyone know if they're dropping their girls program?

So that's around 2k and you didn't mention the training sessions that MC run that the players are strongly encouraged to attend at $80 a pop.

Sorry, that is $2,650 plus, plus, plus...BTW there are not many clubs out there for much less if you are playing year round. when you add it all up, winter league, spring league, training sessions, speed & agility, blah, blah, blah, its big $$. Love it or leave it!

We are the ones to blame. The Express keeps raising the "tuition" and we keep paying. Here is a great point. The 2014 class had 3 teams last year, over 70 kids. They have 19 kids committed. If you are not on the orange team, you are throwing your $ away. Unless of course you are the parents who just want your kid to have fun.

Exactly! If your kid is on the A team for express or 91 than it may be worth the $ because those teams get treated a lot better and get more for the money than the B and C teams.

You bring up a great point that we are to blame. I think that we are ALL CRAZY. But, you are a parent, and you want the best for your children whether academically or with sports. We are suppose to give them the best opportunity to succeed. But the last thing you mentioned I agree with the most...HAVE FUN. It does not matter which club you decide to give your money to, as long as your child is still enjoying it and not getting "burnt out" at 13, go with the flow and cheer them on!

91 Orange is a B team, at least at the 2017 level

B team? They won at least 2 tournaments in the A division this summer out of the 5 they played.

What 2 tournaments did they win?

Go back to the 91 board and bring your B team with you.

NXT Summer Invitational
LI Laxfest
Lehigh Laxfest

All in the A division. Not saying they are better than the Turtles or True Blues A team but they are right behind those teams.

Any word on when Express will be holding tryouts?

It is by invitation only for the A teams this year. Just kidding they are going to take our $125 dollars for the tryout fee and then kick us in the ba!!s for the $3000 tuition. You heard it hear first.

Very, very few additions to any A teams unless a kid leaves for some reason. I'm sure its happened but must be extremely rare that a kid drops from an A to a B team. Especially in the 2017-2015 range.

What about 2018-2020. Is A already predetermined or are spots open. Will any tryouts be for a B team which isnt decided on until June. Will going to the "clinic" this week give anyone a better shot at being recognized to have A abilities.

last summer the 2015 Express Orange team won the U15 nationals and a month later one of the two goalies (who is excellent and goes to St A's) did not make the team and played for the Blue team this year. so stop the BS, They want to win and are going to take the kids on the "A" team that will help them win. A second 2015 who played on the white team last summer made the orange team this summer and has already committed to a good D1 program. They take the top players on the "A" team if anything they take to many kids. If you want to make the top team in a grade level - play well in the tryout. kids will make the team on the field not on BOTC

That's not how it works with the 2017 express age group. Their are some players who are locked into roster spots on the A team each year that clearly don't belong.

That will change in 2 years, a few kids will get dropped from this team to the dismay of there parents. Prepare yourself!!!

Yea and I'm hoping the team gets more competitive with some needed changes. I I really don't think kids are locked into spots going forward. The organization wants this team to be the best it can be and if that means changes in certain positions then be it. It's been stated that the first lines are solid which is true but this team needs depth for second lines. Some kids that didn't get much time were put in on man down and I honestly don't think they stopped a man down goal all summer. It was pathetic actually.

Don't subject your kid to the randomness of this crap shoot. Unless of course you kid is going to St A's and his chances go up 10-fold. It's the biggest money making scam on the Island.

no matter what they do they are buffoons? if they keep the same kids every year the teams are locked and tryouts are a sham, if they make changes and kids improve year to year and a kid moves up then they are idiots for cutting him the year before............is it at all possible that the kid was an OK player had a bad tryout and made the white team and the next year he grew, vastly improved, had a great tryout and made the orange team? ...probably not possible, right?

Are you joking? Do you realize how ridiculous you sound trying to defend this? You and the Express belong with eachother. There's no excuse other than one of the worst examples of cronyism and a horrendous mis-judgement of talent that a new kid to the program got steamrolled by. 2nd team - yes, maybe but there is nothing that you can say that can excuse these buffoons from putting him on the third team. If you believe that a kid can go from a 3rd string team to a D1 commit in a year then I have a bridge to sell you and the Express. Please, it's simply horrible how they "evaluated" that kid initially and I'm shocked the parents put up with it and came back for more. Thankfully everything worked out fine despite the huge setback for a year. Are the rest of you willing to take that chance that your kid will be misjudged so horrendously? Ejoy the schenanigans, the lack of transparency and the outright ineptness of the "evaluation" money grab process.

Over time these clubs are toast anyway with so many high school and college coaches doing their own events.

In 2012 the kid had a bad tryout and was small, He did not deserve to make the Orange team, kid grew and developed and made the Orange team in 2013 and the coaches helped a lot in the recruiting. This is a success story for both the kid and the organization and should shut up the haters about how the tryouts are a sham, it is just the opposite - it was fair when he made the white team last year and it was fair when he made the orange team this year. If they kept the entire team that won the U15 nationals you would have said tryout was a money grab and no spots were available and when they did make roster changes and took new kids you say it is a sham because they should have kept the kid a year earlier even though he didn't deserve it because of how much better and bigger he was going to be.........shame on Express for not having a crystal ball.

If he was small and not a good player how was he so far ahead of the rest of the White team? He should have been at least placed on the 2nd team in 2012. The 2nd team was not a good team either - no standout offenseive players - and he could have had a significant impact. There's no defending this, it was a brutal way to spend $2,400 for no reason other than misjudgment and God knows what else goes on in making up these teams.

Please tell us what you liked about his tryout in 2012 that you have determined that he deserved to make the blue team, also explain what you saw in the fall of 2011 when try outs took place that you knew he would be this good in 2013? Enlighten us to what nobody else could see

I am very confused here, your damned if you do damned if you don't.

A few things took place, most importantly the family and player stuck by Express. The boy has a D1 offer (I just hope it is at a good academic school). As you guys bash Express for not seeing talent, I see it as the player also stayed on and made the most of his chance when it came. He could have easily went to another club and who knows how it would've turned out.

I know for a fact Mike C does speak to folks of players on the cusp. Whether you call it being a salesman or guiding a family and playing (its your own interpretation) but the end result worked out. As many say it is a marathon not a sprint. Although at times it does seem to be a crazy dash!

Isn't that the story many look for. The only player who doesn't is the one who lost playing time.

Is Express blind to helpmet color and agnostic to wheter a kid goes to Catholic school or public school? Or, is it possible that the tie always goes to the Catholic school kid? Hope its the former and not the latter with the Express. No opinion, just askin' the question.

Possible this obvservation (or question?) clounded the Express judgement initially until it became such an agregiously obivious mistake that they couldn't avoid having to correct it. Buyer beware.

2015 Orange cut a long time express goalie who goes to St. Anthony's and kept the goalie who's last name would assure that he would not have enrolled in a parochial high school - just sayin'
