Most of this is completely false - especially the change from 9/1 to May 1 so 1 player could play in the World Series. Please hat player played w the graduating class of 2022, didn’t play w the 2021’s.

For LI we def have some pre 9/1 bday’s but is just very small portion and the few that are known play 2027. Most of the 2009 birthdays are late November and December w the large majority being 2010’s.

holdbacks are part of the sport, we get it. But stop pretending it’s not a difference maker especially in the early stages of puberty.

As mentioned earlier LI has done very well at the one birth year tournament that teams can compete in, while the big name clubs from the Maryland area don’t even attempt to play.

I agree with this 100 percent. Long Island has plenty of holdbacks. Stop crying already. I know several kids repeating 8th grade on private school so they can go to a private high school a year older in 9th. I also know tons of parents who have kids with early birthdays……delaying the start of kindergarten. Long Island can’t claim we’re all “on age “ anymore. And no…..I’m not from Maryland

So you can name 2 guys? Great job. Not exactly a rampant problem. Truth is the holdback is the outlier here.on Long Island. Much more rare here.

All of our kids on the top programs are age eligible for the World Series and what drives guys like this nuts is some of our kids PLAY UP! A novel concept for your area where most parents are trying to have their kids play down in age by holding their kids back.

To answer the guy above about age, most of our kids are still 11, some 12. Cutoff here for school is December and people don’t normally hold the late in the yr kids back. They start them in Kindergarten at 4 years old in September and they turn 5 on their birthdays in Oct/Nov/Dec.

How can this even be an argument? All within the rules. Grade based MD (and MA definitely more competitive) most years from 6th-10th grades has the best teams-we all know why-and age based LI usually has the best-though most years there is a True or National team that certainly is right there-never a DC or MD team and we all know why... No violations just facts...

If Long Island wants to win the WSYL the team will need a goalie. Forget about age, it comes down to who you have between the pipes. Legacy and Rebels do not have the goalie(s) to win that tournament. I have no idea about the Express goalie. Venom has the 2 best goalies on LI. If anyone has a chance, its Venom.

There are absolutely holdbacks on the LI teams but the parents will falsely claim otherwise.

Mind you I am talking about the best LI teams who compete with the best teams nationally.

Same with EN, BBL, 2Way, Freedom and every other team north of Maryland that is nationally competitive.

If Venom’s backup goalie is the second best goalie on Long Island (I have no idea if he is or isn’t) then I don’t understand not switching teams. At best he plays half the time. As a kid I just wanted to play and if you are that good why sit?

Because he and his parents probably prefer to be a spoke in the wheel instead of the entire wheel. If a goalie has mediocre defenders or middies in front then the goalie will not be or appear to be as good as he or she does on a top team. Both goalies are outstanding and are looking at the long term plan. Many up the line including the top high schools, split time with their goalies if they’re essentially equal in talent and ability.

All you parents on here most of you never played sports ay high level commenting on kids. I would love to see you parents play a sport and beer pong is not a sport. Half of you are fat and out of shape or skinny and have no coordination. Why don't you guys shut up and let kids play.

The World Series of Lacrosse is no more. The replacement event isn’t anywhere near what the World Series was. Not to mention it’s owned by the 91 guys. It is quickly molding into a my lacrosse tournament even. Most of the top teams in Maryland etc are not even going. Yes they are older but they always put an age eligible team in.

Not true. Almost no varsity programs have goalies split time. The only high school that has done that with success is St Anthony this year.

They’re not going because the core and majority of their rosters are ineligible.

True lacrosse is running point on this event.

This is a delusional 91 Parent. Goalies blaming their ‘mediocre’ teammates when they do not appear as good, calling their kid “the entire wheel”. Did a parent really write that? How many 91 goalies have been recruited to top schools? Most of their teams are so dominant offensively that they can carry their defenders and, gasp, Goalies. Looking at the long term plan, huh? What parent of a travel lacrosse player isn’t thinking ‘long term’? That orange 91 koolaid must be spiked and Mom is hitting it hard.

Correct.

The primary reason MD teams didn’t play is the qualifier stepped all over the HoCo preparation schedule.
That is what the teams care most about.

That and also it was obvious it was a true and to a lesser extent 91 farce.

Will they though? I mean, come on. You're telling me a Hawks to MadLax is putting in an age based team? They are not because on age they will lose. Not necessarily to LI teams but to other on age teams. Age and size is an advantage- there is no disputing it.

Of course you need a good goalie but that is not what has 91 winning all their games. If you believe otherwise you haven’t seen many of their games.

Some on here would love to break 91 goalies apart trying to cause division. To what lengths time will tell.

Completely false on all parts. Last year 18 teams registered for the east qualifier. This included many tops teams including hawks, tigers etc. This year only 7 teams showed up for the east qualifier. The new “event” is run by USCL. Which is owned by a team 91 director. It’s over Johnny.

The MD teams aren't going to the new World Series because they can't compete on age and they don't want to be exposed. Stop your nonsense and go back to the MD forum.

Nobody care about the WSYL this year because it no longer exists. There's no more ESPN coverage, no more deep-pocketed sponsorships, no more corporate organization. It's like the NFL suddenly folded and then the XFL tried to claim it's now host of the 'Superb Bowl.' Would Pepsi pay $75 million to sponsor that halftime show? No. The WYSL started off small in 2015 and grew into a great event. Then it folded because it wasn't profitable. The LWSC is a cheap imitation. It failed to attract strongest clubs nationwide. But who knows? Maybe a new, better run and better organized event will come along and take its place? Unlikely without some serious corporate sponsorships. Pity because WSYL was a great showcase to get young kids excited about playing.
