MCD will be a joke until the kid who shoots 35 times a game graduates. He’s stifling the development of every other player on offense. He’s in the way. I agree. He has unbelievable skills but only uses them to drive and shoot. Great players make the players around them play better (and McD has some great talent on the field outside of 9). He seems to make the whole less than the sum of its parts. Coaching most def shares the blame for that, but when the O coach is your older “brother from another mother” it’s unlikely to change. It will be interesting to follow him to see how he integrates into Dukes scheme. Current playing style does not seem to be a good match. If the one person offense is a MCD thing, wouldn't the AD realize how ineffective it is and counsel the coaches involved? Can't be good for a Program's recruiting efforts or are prospective parents just too notIntelligent to notice? That uncontrolled one v one stuff translates into riding the bench at Duke. They have the ultimate team offense in collegiate lacrosse. That won't happen with this player. This is a management not player related issue: based on the posts above, the MCD athletic director is asleep at the wheel but that isn't uncommon in the private school community. Duke will have buyers remorse. I thought this before he even signed. We saw this same behavior in his sophomore year. Just more exposed now & going forward.

Also sorry that you are so unhappy with your own kid's play (lack of playing time?) that you feel need to come on here and rip on other people's kids.

It’s a forum, so we talk mainly about what happens between the lines-that is what has occurred here. If MM wants to build him up on social media that’s fine. More exposure on the internet does not equal top player with leadership qualities.

Juniors playing on JV Teams - how many schools are doing this in the MIAA? At CHC and Loyola (only rosters I've looked up this season), there are a handful of juniors on JV. I think 4 on CHC and 2? on Loyola. Don't quote me but I don't think it's "no juniors" or "20 juniors" or whatever the friday afternoon argument is setting up to be. Ummmm, no. You didn’t look at the Loyola roster that is posted on their website. Loyola does not allow Juniors on JV for lacrosse. Calvert Hall and BL both carry juniors and they are the ones that typically start. As they should. If you are a junior on a JV team you should be the best on the field. Regardless, if you are a junior on JV, that tells you all you need to know about what the varsity staff thinks about you.

He won’t play much at Duke. The top teams did not recruit him very aggressively. Duke had to be talked into taking him. Most college coaches don’t think his size or his lack of physical strength will prevent him from being a star in college. He should have gone to s low level D1 like his father did.

If you think McD is doing right by their and his play , explain it. Watching McD is puzzling? Last most of us thought, it is a team sport where you play as a team. McD lets one person run rampant at the detriment of others it seems. McD has others that can play, yet one person is always on ball, like many have said, he is a good player, but so are others on team. Give us your take.

The Broadneck Capers handled the Severna Park 1/8 zips in case anyone cares. What time is Severna Park’s parade today for almost winning again +1 Bravo, sir or madam! Public state titles are as impressive as MIAA “C” titles. I think most communities really care about how the local public high schools do, where only the parents of the students at MIAA schools really care how they do.

McD went from a top 5 team in the country to not being a top 5 team in the MIAA. How could that be with their stacked talent and the next “greatest player of all time”. It’s easy to say coaching, but HC has had success in the past with “weaker” teams. What’s changed?

Yeah, like I wanna go to UMASS for its great lax (or academics), said no kid ever…. 😆 Why bust on UMASS? it is a good school ! The whole line of joking is in a gray area. UMASS is a fine school but why go so far for either "good enough" academics or lax? The answer is that UMASS is far enough away from MD that a "good" MD HS lax player with a "good" HS GPA would get a favorable mixed bag of merit financial aid. Meaning also that he didn't qualify for a full ride on lax or on academics. Because if he would have, he'd have gotten closer and better offers than UMASS. Roughly the same equation that recently started bring across-the-board lax talent to Denver. They worked really hard to assemble (complex) financial aid packages for "the right kids" who were absolutely not from CO.....or adjacent states.

It’s easy to say coaching, but HC has had success in the past with “weaker” teams. What’s changed? Preseason polls are primarily based on a team's prior year's performance and hype not reality. Coaching a lot of "individual" talent is often more difficult than less heralded players. When your team is "weaker", opposing programs don't spend as much time scouting and preparing for you so game planning and "in game adjustments" are less important. When you have a big target on your back (top 5 in the country), a HC and his staff have to work three times as hard to fight overconfidence and complacency internally and game/contingency plan for everything because you will be getting the opposing staffs' and teams' best efforts. Also, sometimes the initial defensive or offensive schemes chosen are ineffective and a coaching staff has to change horses midstream during the season. This takes a lot of staff time and effort. When you look at the two teams in the A Conference finals last year, both had former top collegiate HCs advise them on game planning and in game tactical adjustments. Those Programs were comfortable taking advice from those esteemed sources and welcomed the assistance in reaching their teams' potential. Some HCs put their egos aside in the pursuit of excellence.

But let’s be real, only marginally decent lax players want to play at UMASS, and that’s only because they didn’t have better options…
