Having too many kids on a roster will ruin a team. If you have over 20 players start a B team. Keeps the talent level relative.

NL was not a great team last year, let’s not forget…

Folks, this love affair with NL may be a little premature. They pulled one out against Madlax down 4-2 with 4 minutes remaining, and had Hawks on the ropes. It’s early Spring. Eeeeeasy….

Also, holding Madlax to 4 goals is not much of a feat. Hawks held them to 5. And Madlax couldn't even put up double digits against True.
Love this. Counting out Madlax after two games. Tight ones at that.

No one is counting Madlax out. No one even cares about them, just detest false boasting that Madlax is #1 (as ranked by Madlax). Hopefully Madlax has a fun game this weekend and some of their on age kids get to score some goals without getting screamed at. What's the over/under on that?

“Over Under on getting screamed at?”

They’ll get screamed at before the game starts. That will never change. Kids are good kids, many of them classmates with NL and BLC kids. When they hit puberty, they may not respond to the screaming, and will bounce. But like it or not, they’re one of the top couple teams in the nation, despite two early season tight losses.

By definition they are not one of the top teams in the nation if they lost their first two games in their spring league. That’s just math.

This doesn’t make any sense.

Earlier Madlax Dad said they "steamrolled" the Hawks last summer 7-2, but the recent 9-5 Hawks win over the Madlax was "tight." Just stop posting on here. It's embarrassing the way you talk about 6th grade lacrosse.

The Hawks Madlax game 3 weeks ago was a 2 goal game with 4 minutes left, and basically a 1 goal game the whole way. If you were in Amherst last year, you’d recall the 7-1 score until Hawks scored a late one against Madlax bench. That, was a beatdown. And yes, just like the HoCo game a year ago when the Hawks put a beatdown on Madlax. I hear ya before you even say it. Point is, these teams are tight. And Madlax is not back in the pack. They easily handled all of the teams that have given Hawks and Madlax trouble last 6 months, including Aksawanee Thunder, Philly Freedom, etc. Not to mention, they smoked NL in October 8-2.

Madlax is indeed in the back of the pack, as they should be after their losses to Next Level and the Hawks. You were also the bug against Express North last fall when they crushed you 13-3.

It’s simple. Madlax will win HoCo this year. Book it.

Predictions for this weekend. Not a lot of competitive games. Madlax vs FCA probably the most interesting.

Hawks 17 KP 1
NL 14 BLC 4
Madlax 8 FCA 6
Crabs 8 True 4

Pretty solid predictions… I’ll say Crabs game is closer, 6-4 Crabs. Madlax 9-5. NL 10-3.

crabs has dad coaches all the way through hoco. TJ and Brian have a combined three kids on those teams. TJ- 2027 and Brian is an assistant on both 2028 and 2026 teams and has a kid on each team (Brian is the one that was suspended a few games back for inappropriate behavior at an 8th grade game). The head coach at 2028 wanted to step down last year and is now just a figure head. Parents were complaining that he was checked out last year. And now he also travels a lot to watch his own freshman kid play in college. Brian runs that team and always runs the lines. Same deal at 2026 because RM coaches multiple teams and never even played lacrosse himself so Brian has to run the team for him. TJ is new at 2027 but just like at his previous club, he’ll start to take over. That dude’s ego is almost as big as his gut.

Daddy Ball seems really bad at 2028. Heard 91 and FCA have the same problems.

At 91, 3/3 coaches are team dads. With a 4th dad in the wings who has previously Dad-Coached at 91, FCA, and Predators.

FCA seems to be a revolving mix of dads and non-dads.

Dads coaching is fine. It’s when they favor their kid when it’s a real problem, both for other kids and the parents who see it, but can’t say anything. If a dad is a coach, he has to be tougher on his kid than anyone else— and cannot favor his own. Recipe for disaster. Happens in all sports.

Well stated. It does happen in all sports. In lax, the biggest problem is when the Coach's dad plays a key role in the offense. Intentionally or not, over time, the offense seems to funnel through Dad's son. It does tend to lead to some team success since there is some kind of "vision" but it clearly is not a meritocracy. Which is kind of on brand since we all know youth lax is not a true meritocracy anyway.

Interesting how few upsets there have been in HOCO. Next Level win over Madlax and Kelly Post over True are really the only games that could qualify as upsets based on preseason expectations. Also the playoffs and seeding are essentially determined already. Hawks will be 1, NL will be 2, Madlax 3, and FCA will be 4. Crabs will be 5. If BLC can beat True this weekend, they will finish 6th alone at 2-5 otherwise it will be a three way tie between BLC, True, and KP at 1-6.

Only 4 teams make playoffs, right? So yeah, looks like it’s pretty well-determined based on remaining schedules, etc. Hawks 7-0, NL 6-1, ML 5-2, and FCA 4-3.

1 Hawks vs 4 FCA
3 Madlax vs 2 Next Level

As for True— I don’t think they’re that bad. I do think they’ll get their only win against BLC. They just look very small, other than their 6-3 defender.

Huge disparity between top 4 teams and bottom 4 teams unfortunately. There’s a pretty high likelihood that 3 teams (BLC, True, and Kelly Post) end the season with only 1 win. That’s a tough run for these boys…

True seems well coached. They play a controlled style and defense is pretty good. They just don’t have the athletes to compete with the top few teams. Very small. BLC is the opposite. They are big and reasonably athletic, but the coaching seems suspect. They push the pace unnecessarily and turn the ball over way too much. I think True will beat BLC without much trouble.

Disagree on BLC coaches. Solid coaching the past two seasons has helped upgrade the roster talent substantially--and improve the talent that remained after coaching and player exoduses a couple of seasons ago. They are much improved from last season to this one. Still missing a few key pieces to have a chance to beat the top teams. But they were within two goals of NL yesterday at the half--and hanging tough.

They’ll finish the season 1-7. Lone W against Kelly Post.

12-5 isn’t hanging tough.

I think she meant that BLC was hanging tough until halftime, based on the two goal margin.
