Week 1 2022 (2027)
Pride Red 27 vs Cavalier 27 Pride – 8 I think Cavs are a solid team, the best of the “new teams” added to the A division. That being said, Pride should handle them. Both teams out of North. VA so this could be an intense game.
Integrity Green 27 vs BLC Blue 27 BLC – 10 Tough matchup for Integrity in Game 1. Not certain if soccer conflicts will change this game, but BLC is a very good team that uses ball control but is capable of scoring in bunches.
TLC Red 27 vs Skywalkers Blue 27 Skywalkers -3 From a competition standpoint, this may be one of the better games of the season. I saw TLC a few times in fall and they look a way off from competing but have a few nice players. Skywalkers needs to show more than the 0-8 team of 2021. I think they do here.
M&D Black 27 vs CCLax 27 M&D Black – 17 Both teams won NGLL Championships in 2021, that’s where the similarities end. There’s a few CCLax players that are going to make some plays and get them on the scoreboard but it’s a huge difference in team speed and mentality here. Absurd this is the first of two meetings overt the next few weeks between these teams.
Hero's White 27 vs Coppermine 27 Coppermine -4 Call me old fashioned, but I think Coppermine is still a solid team. Two years ago, this would be a double-digit victory, and although that won’t be the case now, there’s still a gap. I’m not convinced White got better in the last year.
NEMS 27 vs MD United 27 MD United – 3 This game means more to MDU, who won’t see very many “easy” games unlike NEMS. Both these teams are evenly matched. Not sure how much “soccer” will change this game, but I’m giving nod to MDU in this. how much can I bet on CCLax +17? 12 or 13 is probably a better item. Can't image M&D starters playing much in the 2nd half and there is probably very little gap between CCLax and M&D backups. Think the rest of the lines are pretty good, though I'd probably put MDU up by close to 5 or 6. Good point, that line is a bit high in retrospect. House may lose money on that one. 17 pts is the highest goal amount for a team I see from last year. (BLC 17-4) You'd obviously need a 22-5 type of game.

BLC beat both Skywalkers and Renegades easily Sunday (both by 10 or so). But, having seen both games I though Renegades is clearly stronger than Skywalkers. I'm not sure their lacrosse skills are better, but the Renegades girls are bigger, faster and more physical than Skywalkers. Curious why they are still in the B Division while Skywalkers is in A. Assume it's because Skywalkers is historically A. Skywalkers really struggled last year. They are not the normal Skywalkers teams we usually see. They would lose to a bunch of B teams

Renegades didn't play in A last year and obviously didn't win B last year (CCLax) so it makes sense they stay another year, but woulda been nice to have even 16 teams. No doubt SW is there in A based on club history. Expect them to vastly improve with a new group of girls over next 2 years.

Looks like Renegades should do well in 27 and 28 this spring in NGLL. Congrats?

The renegades team was big, and physical, their stick skills just weren't as sharp. Not sure of the score, but they held skywalkers to very few goals. Skywalkers did not seem as talented as I expected.

Turnovers on clears and jogging behind cutters are main issues.

Turnovers on clears and jogging behind cutters are main issues. Define solid core. They don't have a single girl who could make an A+ team. They have about 8 girls who could play in a mid-level A team and none of them play on defense. They have gotten better, especially offensively. I expect them to score some goals, but there defense is dreadful. Its not just a lack of athleticism, its lack of basic lax defensive IQ principals -- knowing when to slide, not sliding low to high, pick and roll defense. Most of this in my mind goes to coaching. Both in terms of 1) teaching good principles and 2) putting better athletes on defense. It always boggles my mind why some mid to bottom A teams consistantly put their worst players on defense, and SW is not the only club. If you look at M&D and Heros, on both teams arguably 2 of their best 5 athletes play on D and it makes a major difference.

Most teams will always put their best athletes at middie, they can control the game that way. I think as teams get older, more and more top players get moved to defense.

I'd argue the best teams do that now. For me the biggest difference between M&D/Heros/BLC and the next tier (Pride, MDU, NEMS, LBC). is the quality of their defense and the speed and quality of their clears.

Even with some of your best players at Defense, if you don't have at least 2 solid middies and depth, you can't do much of anything.

A good goalie and a good defense will keep you in games but you need consistent scoring to succeed. Either from a mid or a couple of strong finishing attackers.

At a young age the finishers and best athletes are generally midfielders but as they move up in age and play more of a settled offensive game, the attackers become the backbone of the offense. It's good at a young age to develop strong finishers and ball control specialists at attack so your whole offense doesn't rely solely on fast break, full field sprints to goal by the mids. This also pertains to the defensive end. You don't want mids exhausted from full field breakaways to goal and then have to try to get back on defense following a goalie save, or a turnover.

In blowouts or games without defense, I'd agree. But if you ever watch a game between M&D, Heros, Aces, YJ, BLC, and a few others, there are very few transition goals and lots of settled play goals where attack is highly involved.

Also some cases where the draw girls are attack but those are the ones scoring goals and taking DCs or least on the circle. Aces #2 is dominant on DC for example and is the clear best shooter on team, arguably, in 2027 age.

Seen her play 3 times and I think she got a yellow card for a dangerous shot 3 times and probably should have gotten more. #2 on Aces plays out of control, just jump shots when not necessarily and routinely hits defenders on her follow through. Just a matter of time before a defender just takes her out. I see your point, but as girls progress, start running more sophisticated sets, and learn how to leverage big physical low attackers, this will decrease.

The game (speed / physical nature / etc) and the teams will change a ton over the next 18 months as the 27s go into high school. Some girls that dominate now won't be super relevant in a few years because people caught up physically or injuries. At this age (7th grade) and younger the teams that can all throw/catch consistently and can slide on D dominate...by 9th grade everyone is caught up both in skills, size, speed, etc for the most part. There will be a clear top 3-5 teams but the gap closes every year

Looks like a bunch of blow outs so far if the Tourney App is correct. Waiting on Coppermine / Hero’s White and NEMS / MDU. Any thoughts from anyone at any of the games. M&D clearly has a cake walk to the playoffs to everyone’s surprise.

From Bowe. Pride looked really good. They pass well. BLC looked sharp. Very physical. . Give Integrity credit. They play hard the whole game. They have a few girls that could play on top teams. M&D game was ugly quick. And they either have a small roster or girls were missing. Only saw 3-4 subs on sidelines.
No surprises. Teams expected to win ended up winning

Biggest shocker to me is Skywalkers rolling TLC. Soccer and vacations played a big part in these three games. Heard Coppermine had one sub so slowed down the pace of the game while Hero’s was missing a few including their goalie but the result was expected. NEMS was missing several key players due to soccer so this score may be misleading. TLC only had nine I heard so had to forfeit.

Imagine paying over 2K for a competitive lax club then bailing on Inseason games for a vacation. Way to teach your kid about being part of a team and dedication.

My daughter plays for MD United. 6 starters for NEMS were out. We were missing 2 girls too. Hard faught game.

Imagine paying over 2K for a competitive lax club then bailing on Inseason games for a vacation. Way to teach your kid about being part of a team and dedication. This is why some organizations never become relevant. And it's not a bad thing to have the means to go on vacations and such. But if you are gonna commit to NGLL or A Division, you know what's expected and what lies ahead. Hence some of the results we see
