But they made Varsity - that's all that matters right? Nothing wrong with JV but make no mistake few if any would prefer to be on JV and play vs being on varsity. You practice against better players and get used familiar with the system and the coaching. Doesn't the IAAM allow for double rostering? I thought they did. We do it in DD conference (DC area) and it allows the girls to practice with varsity and get in some games but also gives the leeway of JV in games they might not get into (i.e. play with JV against the likes of SSSAS but play varsity in other games that might not be as close/if there is no JV or a known bad JV) ^no

This will be a warm up for you both for recruiting time. Hold on, there are always surprises.

How do families with low incomes survive the whole recruiting process. It seems like you have to be rich and loaded to attend all of these college camps all across the country.

Agree, a lot of schools won't recruit you unless you attend their camp. Which eliminates many families who don't have the means to afford the whole process. That is why you see affluent families from the upper Northeast (Mass, CT, NY, to an extent the Baltimore/DC and the rich suburban areas of Atlanta dominate the recruiting landscape. Many families don't have the resources to afford this and all of the clinics, camps, trainings, etc. its a shame.

The cost to send film/highlights to coaches has to be at an all time low. The question is how many diamonds in the rough are out there for colleges to find? Geographically the sport is expanding but still very tightly focused compared to other sports. Minimum stick skills takes time to develop, 3 years? 6 months intensive? Not sure. Field awarenesses + combination plays etc. takes time as well but might be quicker to pick up from other sports like basketball. Once a threshold of skills is reached it seems to be all about the athlete. I think the difficult skills, especially stick skills, keeps someone just picking it up in high school to have much of any chance of playing in college, except ridiculous athletes. Around 8th grade you start to see earlier stick savvy players but lower in athleticism start to fade as more athletic girls catch up to stick handling to a certain threshold. Obviously you can always get better at skills but girls lacrosse seems to hide athletes until a threshold is passed more so than most sports.

Your D can still play club her junior year if she doesn't make varsity and a 3rd year on JV isn't an option.

UA150 deadline was last night. Do they pick more from top teams or do they try to spread it out between lots of teams? Also, do the Club coaches rate the players on their teams for this?

Here are last year's rosters: https://www.underarmour150.com/index.cfm?do=cnt.page&pg=1019Seems to be dominated by Sky Walkers and M&D girls (represent 20% of rosters). Not sure how the evaluation is done....

MD schools did not go last year for some reason which is why there are more MD girls at UA150. HS National Championship sidelines full of top coaches. Anyone whose hs team is invited to Nationals is not going to UA. Look at the coach lists. Better coaches at HS Nationals for sure.

How many freshman do you see starting in the IAAM this year? MCD - None NDP - None SPSG - None Spalding - ? de sales - ? Maryvale- ? Severn - ? Garrison Forest - ? Bryn Mawr - ? Roland Park - ? While not a top team, Garrison Forest will have 2 likely starters and another 2-3 who at a minimum will be solid rotation players. Still expect them to be bottom of the league this year, but can see them getting to middle of the pack in a year or two.

UNC and BC didn't even go to UA. Michigan didn't go either sent whole staff to HS tourney. Not all high schools go so UA is also a good option but not the same level of coaches there.

Do the 150 for film - my dd did it her first year. Lots of other regions come in with players. A girl on her team from FL is now going to Brown. Tall and athletic but was very green in experience- so it doesn’t matter your skills! The only reason the M&D, SW girls do it is because they are proactive about getting into college for lax. You need to have a few small references And some video lined up for the application. Moot point at this time. But you must be fwd thinking! I was talking with a mom from HS team and she had told me she skipped Texas this year as a 24! That’s not the year to be skipping!

Tell your coach/ director that you want the team to play up in tournaments so you get seen more. At this point in your playing it’s more about showcasing than winning. Get selfish. Sorry.

Loyola Indoor. When is it not okay for one girl to score 90% of a team’s goals? Amazing talent but when defense figures out how to slow her down then it is a problem……

If the other team has a player scoring 90% of the time maybe you need a new coach to figure out how to stop her.

Can’t wait to see the mess at some of these school with 7-8 freshman entering and 1-2 make varsity this year.
