In 2022 - literally every sport is a money sport. Unless your son or daughter plays rec (which is fine) everything is expensive as heck.
Put a daughter in competitive cheer or fencing, or a son in travel basketball or travel baseball and count the dollars spent. Don’t get me started on hockey. Literally every sport AT A HIGH LEVEL is expensive.
The issue is - club lacrosse has way to many kids playing with dreams of eliteness when in fact half the kids in HoCo should be playing rec based on talent level. If parents want to indulge the club experience then that’s a choice. But this monster was created by club directors and is being fed by parents.

Didn’t a 100% on age hawks team destroy the best Long Island team just last year?

Whether here in MD or elsewhere, it is a hot mess. Other sports as well. I guess you have a point that the A ball teams and half of AA at HoCo could be the starters on rec teams. Which would be about 1/3 of kids in HoCo.

Can't blame program directors for creating product people want. That said, if your son/daughter really likes lacrosse than club just gives them more time on the field. I know there are a lot of parents on the B teams that do that in NOVA. Va has a pretty good rec program too. Nothing wrong with paying for more time, coaching etc. Also, if if the kids aren't as good their desire to be good shouldn't be ignored. Not to mention the fact that the DMV is a hotbed of the sport. Kids want to do what their friends are doing..... who cares.

to be honest the age of the DMV lacrosse specify NoVa there is better rec programs then B hoco level teams I think this is supposed to mean that there are rec teams better than B level HOCO teams -- I would agree, but our town rec team is comprised mostly of kids who play Elite or AAA in HOCO (as are most of the ones we play against) so that shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Nobody is checking birth certificates, it is a grade based sport. And until they make it age based, DMV will continue to eat LI’s lunch and the bag it came in. So be it.

A kid born in August is not on-age, he’s a holdback who can’t hang with kids his own age. A kid born in September is on-age and has a halo around him for playing with kids his own age. It’s just tired. Long Island had one great team last year and the Hawks won 4-3 when they met at NLF. The original poster is a semi-effective troll.

All these DMV parents think their kids are going to play for Duke and UVA because they play in HoCo. Check any top college roster. LI produces way more D1 players than MD. Duke has more kids from just Chaminade and St. Anthony's (8) than EVERY SCHOOL IN THE DMV COMBINED. Duke has 19 kids from NY (LI and upstate) and 6 from DMV. Even University of Maryland's roster is less than a third of kids from MD. NY plays a tougher, faster, harder brand of lax. So keep sending your 8th graders to eat our 6th graders lunch. By the time they get to HS, it's clear who the real winners are.

Quite the call-out here (“tougher, harder, faster brand of lacrosse” in LI). Sounds like a challenge to MD boys. Someone on this board suggested a MD-LI club challenge play day. Sounds like the perfect way to test this proposition.

DMV has 12 kids at UVA, including the best player in the country (Shellenberger/Madlax). Heck, Highland Park Hs IN TEXAS has more kids than Long Island. Classic bro. BOOOOM Boom

Shellenberger from uva is older than my nephew who is a college JR. spallina is in line w every kid from the Maryland area. Oneill graduated at 18. Million is 15 moths older then Owen Duffy both top rated 2023’s. Fact if the matter is Maryland kids are mostly older! Spallina although he could have been a 2021 always played up on the 2020’s unlike the Maryland area kids who play down. Has any Maryland team outside of the original wsyl year done well in the one aged based tournament? I’ll answer for you, no! It’s not that hard to figure out why.

And This One Time at Lax Camp He was a 2014 FOGO but also this other time at Lax Camp there was a clarinet from the 2012s.....and WSYL so BOOM!" Listen, Madlax pasted Express North both times they played them with their full squad in 2021 (9-2 and 7-2). Half of their starters were not there in November, they had football. But really… you got caught CHEATING. Then claiming your cheaters are no older than those they cheated— just shows us what a laughable joke you are.

EN tried to bring 27s to FL to US Club Lax event, but at least they asked this time.
Since summer Madlax is 2 and 1 vs EN. 1 and 0 vs WCS. 1 and 0 vs Nationals (Hawks and NL's old dumping ground). We haven't played Nations Best (the new dumping ground or Venom...who should be ranked) and JM3 national won Sandstorm.....hahahaha. Pretty sure we'll be fine.

There is a huge holdback debate , Looking at many college age players will determine if you hold back your son . Looks like to me, the jury has spoken, Hold him back if on younger size and age or accept that is might not make D1. And you must be a participation trophy kind of guy. DMV or Balt and LI have a rich history of going against each other. Lacrosse isnt Badmitten where we al size Kumbaya after the game with LI players. Time for you to move there

College kids are old. With the Covid year, this group will be even older.
24 year old juniors are commonplace.
For comparison Ja Morant is 22.
Got to love lacrosse.

Got to love lacrosse. What a great example /s/. Ja Morant is literally the definition of diamond in the rough and not the shining example of how anyone can make it happen. And 24 year old juniors are not commonplace but 24 year old seniors are becoming so. But I do agree the extra year granted by the NCAA has crushed the 2021-24 recruiting classes. I remember on these boards when there were a ton of people saying it would have barely an effect. It's been a joke.
