Not quite. Poggi recruited from across the country for athletics, and brought in kids who were physically exceptional - much bigger, stronger, and faster than the other kids in the MIAA. Poggi did not recruit from across the country at Gilman - he recruited initially from the counties surrounding Baltimore, then expanded to the DMV. He didn't start recruiting nationally until he got to STF. It was costly - the coach insisted on a certain number of scholarships each year in order to feed the machine he built. No, he insisted on a certain number of slots for football players; not tuition. He and donors covered the tuition expenses. And I assure you Gilman wasn't worried about any cost. It caused problems in school, as many of the recruited players struggled with rigorous academics. Many? Again, this is untrue. Look at the schools Biff's Gilman kids went to. His last team at Gilman sent 2 kids to Stanford, 3 to Navy, 2 to Cornell, 1 to Michigan.... Other schools complained, but the MIAA couldn't do much. Eventually, the other schools saw the only choice was to opt out.
Notice they didn't stop playing the other MIAA teams - just the one that had an unfair advantage.
Eventually, things changed. Poggi moved on. The other MIAA A conference teams returned to playing against Gilman. To reiterate, no MIAA teams ever opted out of playing Gilman. That didn't happen until he went to STF.

Is the 91 box program Canadian style? Of is it just indoor lacrosse? Not in any meaningful way. No box pads, or true box play. Some pick down play taught, but really just MM telling everyone how important box is and he is the only coach in Balto who knows how to play it. Other better options if you are really interested in playing box games and tourneys against Canadian and Native American teams.

Once again,,,The holdbacks have no problem when they are the dominate ones,,,but when the tables are turned, the MIAA holdbacks and their schools run for cover. Hypocrites.

It’s because they’re cowards - try to mess with a kid instead of talking trash to the other team’s coach because MM knows he’d get smacked down. He suffers from short man syndrome. 5’8” on a good day, so pick on bigger high school kids to feel tough.

Looks like 2023 91MD picked up some LBA guest players to help them put the smackdown on the 91LI "B" team. Nice job on the "W" boyz. Must have needed the help b/c there were at least 15 subs on the sidelines with 91MD helmets.

More money and fewer headaches running events and training camps until the other MM graduates and takes over. Mis-Atlantic lax is too saturated now with fresher faces and his reputation is too well known here so he'll probably wind up focusing on CA, TX and other growth areas that crave the name recognition without the baggage of his personal reputation being known. Then he'll retire and spend his days watching footage of himself in his glory days by his lonesome self.

Pictures of him wearing those old helmets and uniforms, didn't age so well. Not too many people outside of UMASS tailgates, remember who this guy was.

He couldn't even land that punch! I thought you were talking about shots as in shooting the ball. He takes 50 of those a game with 40 of them ill-advised/executed. The ones on the mark are outstanding though so his highlight reel is one for the ages. Watch a full game and take TOs into account and it's a different story. Dino will have some work to do to change behaviors.

MM will have him out by second year. My prediction

Or the #1 2019 recruit (Shellenberger) No. Or the #1 2018 recruit (Epstein)? How about Lil Millons 2023 local contemporaries: #4 Christmas, MadLax #9 Kabiri, MadLax #11 Wade, DC Express #13 Marsh, Crabs #14 Fyock, Hawks #16 Burns, MadLax #18 Weller, MadLax No you do not. You do not hear stories about those kids blowing up other kids' opportunities, then deciding not to show up for the next one. I don't even put it on Lil Millon. This entitled behavior has Dad's fingerprints all over it. Winning matters, meritocracy matters, but character counts. A lot.

Yup, same with 2026 - bring in Texas kids who hog the ball, never practice with the team, and take time from players that are good and there every practice, and they wonder why they don't win more at tourneys. The regular kids DESPISE those kids. They have ZERO rhythm with the team. They don't even hang out with the team while they are there. Parents were not happy last weekend. Even when they screwed up, which was often, they went right back in. Pathetic practice.

Two choices... work harder and beat them out or run from the competition and find a new club. Paying doesn't guarantee a playing time.

Two choices... work harder and beat them out or run from the competition and find a new club. Paying doesn't guarantee a playing time. Thanks Coach. When would you be able to compete with them? It's not competition when they just show up on game day for the prime tournaments. Competition is having the opportunity to grind day after day on the practice field with your true teammates. Competing open and directly and knowing where you stand based on the side by side work.

Two choices... work harder and beat them out or run from the competition and find a new club. Paying doesn't guarantee a playing time. This is an accurate statement when referring to rostered kids who show up week after week and give the other boys a challenge they can either work toward, or shrink away from. But this is a bone head statement when referring to some rando giant Texas knuckleheads who showed up and the kids on the roster have not even had an opportunity to judge, "what the heck is this, and who the heck is that guy?" And all this coming from the official club director of "We Never Cut Kids Who Work Hard!" (we just make them miserable enough to not show up for tryouts the next year).

Two choices... work harder and beat them out or run from the competition and find a new club. Paying doesn't guarantee a playing time. In HS exposure events, teams aren't even looked at. Everyone should have a chance to play/be seen. Sounds like 91 is interested in winning games to boost their brand over supporting their players in being seen by coaches. Alow, as a parent of a player who has played as a guest multiple times, paying team members should ALWAYS have priority over non-paying guests.
