Got to credit to Shock. They really did not play vs any heavy competition this fall, until today. Even though they lost, everyone has lost to that 91MD team. They beat Sweetlax and lost by 2 in the ship. The game played yesterday was an outstanding battle. I’m glad I was able to watch it. Great game. Did they bring in the kid from Texas ? You mean Seaford.

WHO CARES?? They still lost. Bring in Paul Rabil...it doesnt matter... Exactly. No rule in these tourneys where somebody lives in order to play on a team. It’s called building a roster that gives you the best chance to win. Because it is about winning, above everything else. I have no criticism of it, as long as the coaches are transparent with the families by letting them know.

If you are bringing in college kids to play....well then you have a legit gripe...But bringing in an on-age kid? C'mon man. Instead of complaining about it on this board go complain to the coaches/directors to hold more practices, recruit better players and improve and develop their kids. Lax is a team game. One kid cant do it all for your team: Just ask FlurryGloo or any other of these 1 trick pony teams...

Most of the teams that are not from Long Island have much older kids on the team. Lacrosse is based on grad year so if there's a 16 year old kid graduating in 2025 then it's within the rules. Until youth lacrosse cleans up their act like other sports, this will be the result. Birth year is the easiest way, get valid birth certificates, submit rosters, etc. It's not that difficult. Every other sport is run this way.

It used to be one year, now you are seeing 2 and 3 year holdbacks by the time they reach Junior year of HS!

I totally agree that club and youth lacrosse should adopt age verification standards, although it won't change anything at the college level. Coaches will insist the kids do post grad hs and/or continue to reclass. The transfer portal has forever changed the way college coaches and recruiters put together rosters. It's only going to get worse. Sadly, hs freshman and sophs are wasting their time doing recruiting events and showcases.

Totally agree with last couple of statements. It's really putting kids from Long Island at a disadvantage. We've all played against teams from other regions that have high school freshman that look like men already. If a LI kid has a desire to play college ball, he's going to be at a disadvantage because the college coach will obviously prefer the "man" who is less skilled over the "boy" who is a more talented player. And it is 100% true that other sports do a better job policing this issue. Hockey and Soccer have very stringent rules and actually penalize parties that obstruct or break these rules. Overall Lacrosse is lacking this structure and if it doesn't change really soon it's going to be too late for high school aged kids.

This is something that the Long Island organizations should push for as a whole. Long term they will suffer from it more than individual players. As the sport grows nationally you will see more college recruits from other states. There will be less and less LI parents willing to fork over thousands of dollars per year if the chance of playing in college diminishes over time. The banter between clubs and teams is fun but this is something way more important that people should be focused on. If not for the chance of playing in college, at least as a safety issue. This forum is 2025, imagine what your child would do if he was playing with a 2027 team. Is it fair that other teams have that advantage?

Let’s be honest until someone beats the Team 91 Maryland (Fire) 2025 team it’s them and everyone else at this point. Give credit where it’s due special team! No credit is given to a team with 16 yr old freshmen, a FOGO on HGH and a coach with suspect behavior. They can't touch what 91 Crush developed with HOME GROWN, ON AGE players. No credit given to cheaters.

Not impressed with any team that has holdbacks or from a state where kids start school later. If a 16 year old is dominating 13 and 14 year olds, it’s not anything special. That’s what you would expect.

I do agree that US Lacrosse especially LI club owners demand an on age policy. Not sure it will work since a few of the LI owners have franchised to other states. It's going to take a serious injury and lawsuit to change their minds

They Have the $s to hold their kids back and get them a few extra years to get better and get an advantage to get into that top name colleges! Because , even with their $s the kid may not have had a chance at those schools without lacrosse. It’s happening more and more and the “on age” kids with middle class $s are at a total disadvantage. Forget lower income kids! It cracks me up when US Lacrosse says it’s trying to make lacrosse an opportunity for all! Lol. It’s only getting more elitist by the day!!! Need new leadership in this sport. It’s out of hand.

Usually they are smaller, weaker players who can't hang with their own age group, saw it with S2S coach. Out of state it seems to be more prevalent. It's definitely something that needs to be addressed. I know most sports are age based, obviously wrestling is based on size, is lacrosse the only sport that is grad year? I can't think of another?

Not everyone is necessarily a holdback by grad year. School ages differ by each state sometimes even by district within the same state (NYC vs LI). It's easy enough for a lacrosse governing body to level the field by using an age based model. It's mind boggling they have not done so.

I disagree with the smaller weaker player comment. Just look at the 2022 and 2023 classes. The Number 1 2022 recruit is from LI He would of been the number 1 recruit in the 21 class. LI has their fair share of holdbacks, The more common trend on the island are kids commiting in their year, then doing a PG year. This is all discussed during the recruiting process with the school they commit to. I believe you see even more of this in the coming years.

Not sure what ruling body can change the rules at the youth/club levels? But, they should definitely consider it! Make it a more fair playing field early on.

Reforming a folded club more news to follow! Jesters? In my opinion we need less clubs and ones that actually have competitive B teams vs secondary club A teams. Legacy/Rush in this grade is a great example of what we need more of. Look at how Legacy put themselves together originally… I believe they absorbed the Dune Dawgs and Tide, and now taking another step in that direction, in this grade anyway. Reforming a folded club won’t work unless it’s a combination of 3 or 4 clubs, again in my opinion. I am also of the option that any new should be different and avoid the typical headliners, less expensive vs big clubs, one team only, limited roster, no dad coaches, nobody really cares about that. The expectation is practice year round with dedicated, reputable and fully engaged coaches.

Totally agree about the dad coaches, it's sickening. If you're on a team with a daddy coach, do yourself a favor and get out of there ASAP. We all know why they're doing it. If they were actually a good coach, they would know better than to be a coach on a team their kid plays on.
