Same can be said for MD. Most recruits come the Baltimore,Annapolis and DC metro areas. We could just agree and say they’re the main hot beds and turn out similar number of recruits.

M&D is named the top girls lacrosse club in the country, Hero's is second, Skywalkers is seventh. It is great to see Maryland's clubs so well represented.

BTW I’m glad all the LI and CT kids are getting recruited faster than the MD kids. Maybe all of the CO TX and CA kids can try to go there and pretend to outplay your girls for a change.

This playground fight about which area is more of a hotbed I’d hilarious. Let’s see which girls actually see the field in college before we decide who wins the fight. Riding a bench at the top 10 schools doesn't make your area a hotbed.

Seeing the field in lacrosse is an extra. With pro lax paying what it does, the objective is to use lacrosse to get into the best academic school possible (that happens to be a good fit otherwise) and get scholarship money if available. Its really that simple. If going to a Stanford, Vandy, Duke, Georgetown, BC, ND et al is available at a deep discount (or getting into an Ivy period) is an option, do it now.

Weird, a Florida team is number 4 and a team from Georgia is number 8.

did you ever stop to think that maybe they're playing and putting in the blood, sweat and tears because they actually LIKE playing? if they don't like playing, they're definitely not going to enjoy their college years. my kid wants to go to a college that is a good academic fit where she can also see the field. going to an academic reach and riding the bench just so a parent can brag about what school their kid is at sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Why is it weird?

The bar and restaurant industry is full of lacrosse players who didn't push themselves academically. If the choice is be a role player for a a top flight academic program with a 40-50% scholarship vs being a starter at a $75k per year D3 or non fully funded lower academic level D1, the decision is easy. Life's a marathon not a sprint.

Who knows who gets recruited first, second, or last. NY parents are the first to pound their chests about it and post on their daughter’s behalf on social media. So yeah, it’s pretty clear who gets recruited first on social media.

Because they aren’t Maryland clubs…..everything revolves around Maryland

I'd love to see a breakdown of the non-hotbed commits. The number seems to be growing. Florida, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Ohio, Georgia. would you put New Hampshire in there? lots of Tomahawks committing. Doesn't seem to be a ton of California girls this year.

Since when is going to a good academic school equated to riding the bench? The two things are not linked. You're more likely to ride the bench at MD than Hopkins, Vandy, Georgetown, any Ivy, etc. But which degree would you rather your child have?

One IAAM coach took the opportunity to take pot shots at players during her comments. Parents were looking at each other thinking with is he/she doing.

There were only a couple of clear "pot shots." The more accurate description would be disingenuous. Could you imagine if the coach voiced their true disdain?

Why dont you enlighten the rest of us what was said by this IAAM coach? Otherwise 90% of the people on this forum are in the dark.

Gee, let me guess …. TC who has a few clear favorites. Heck she even has committed players who have yet to see Varsity. I’m sure she had something to say about that!

The coach you mention is an unbelievable player but a terrible coach. Many of the girls she coaches aren’t happy playing for her but are stuck. Parents are afraid to complain because she is too connected. And if she doesn’t like you she will never allow you on varsity even if you are committed to play college lacrosse.

At least the latest lacrosse magazine does her a solid by getting her to admit that she’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

What your looking at is typical of what happens at colleges. Could it be that these girls are not recruited by her and she doesn’t favor them?

How can you never be on varsity and yet still be committed? That says more about the coach than anything! Open up your eyes coach!

Yes she has college committed upperclassmen still playing on JV. They will not play Varsity this year either. She will make sure of that. Can you imagine going to play D1 college lacrosse and never having played at the Varsity level in high school? Poor kids have to try to hide the fact they are still on JV.

And yet we still had early recruiting.

Look at Epstein at Hopkins. He was committed to JHU before he even played in a hs varsity game.

This just proves the importance of club ball.

Club lax has supplanted high school lacrosse and the way to get recruited. Which is why its more important than ever to never have parent coaches of high school level club teams. But if you go to a school full of lax players your chances of sitting the bench increase. That is part of the problem with a couple IAMM schools with large rosters

They are not stuck. No one is forcing them to stay.

Also shouldn't have HS coaches coaching club teams. The chances of a conflict of interest are way too high.

Club lax was built on parent and HS coaches doing the coaching. The college coaches usually are doing it for a few dollars and are not invested. This was such an ignorant comment.

The parent coaching definitely needs to go!!! Way too personal of a connection! The clubs make plenty of bank!!! Hire some coaches without personal connections! Parents pay a lot of money to these clubs!!! Coaches should be there because they choose to be coaches and have a passion for the game! Not “their” kids future.

Parents should be coaxhes. They have all the answers. They know the game, the talent and have recruiting contacts. Those coaching now have no clue. The best clubs have coaches that double as paid trainers for their own players and get paid to help recruit too!

What in the world are you talking about? I don’t know of one college coach who is also a head coach of a club team. Only see college players as assistant coaches during the summer. A HS coach should never be involved as a head coach/recruiting director/owner for any club team. Huge conflict of interest. Any reputable coach would cut ties with either the club or high school and not continue to be involved with both. There are several examples where coaches have done the right thing but unfortunately too many examples where they haven’t. The high school players who are not affiliated with the coach’s club are the ones who pay the price.

Yes!!! I see this happening in the IAAM now! The conference shouldn’t allow this to occur. A coach shouldn’t be able to use their influence in the IAAM/MIAA/varsity lacrosse roster and private school admissions to benefit financially in their club. Parents will have their kids play for a particular club for the sole purpose of gaining admission and a varsity roster spot at a certain high school.

My comment was from direct experience. My daughter switched clubs in 8th grade, leaving the club where her HS coach was Director. Lo and behold, she got put on JV the next year when 6 freshmen from the coach's club made varsity. It was apparent to everyone that this was punishment for leaving her club.

Sky Walkers is the only club I am aware of that does not permit parent coaches. The rest of the clubs certainly rely on parents to coach their teams.

It;s true it's only SW who doesn't allow parents but it doesn't mean it's right that others don't follow. As my daughter is in her final year of club I have come to see that it is hard to get a good coach and retain them which is why it's easy to find a parent. They have a kid on the team, they probably have friends who's kids are on the team, or their kids have friends who join the team, and they'd be travelling to all the practices/games/tournaments anyway. So they're vested in the team. But I have seen it bare out almost every single time - a parent coach can NOT - absolutely NOT be objective. It's ok (i guess) when the teams are middle school aged. But it is a huge conflict of interest once they reach high school. There is too much at stake for some of these kids. If you can't do like skywalkers and never have parent coaches (believe me - I'm there and there's parents string pulling there too even if they're not coaching), they should take the team away from parent coaches once they reach high school. If a parent truly loves coaching and wants to help these girls - like I hear several of these parents profess - they'll realize this is the right thing to do. Coach, build them, help them grow as lax players until HS. They should remove themselves and/or the club should replace them for high school. That fact that they don't (look at M&D and Hero's 2023's. 2024's, and 2025's head and assistant coaches) shows that they weren't really coaching out of the kindness in their hearts but more likely to be able to control things for their daughter or daughters. Changing coaches for HS is a solution that solves the problem. Coaches are hard to find ? Great use parents from 3rd - 8th grade and then turn to team over to an unbiased coach for high school. The fact that this isn't done is laziness on the club's part and selfishness on the part of these parent coaches. They'd never admit it but that's the hard truth !!!!!
