But lets not be dishonest. They ducked NAL at the last minute this season and last. We all know why they do not get better. Will be road kill for the Crabs and True in HOCO and lucky Blackops not around.

Playing your son down means that as a father you had either a son who was either not smart enough to do schoolwork on age, or not athletic enough to compete on age or likely both. Instead of hit the wall, hit the books. Teach your son challenge himself to be better, instead following the path of least resistance to playing an age down. It is ironic that the same dad posts condescendingly (that means "talks down to" for you holdback dads) about kids in AAA & AA but can't see that their own son was not only not capable of playing against the top level; but that they had to drop them down a whole age group to make them feel better about their competitive chances. I bet you can also dunk a basketball on a 7 foot rim. But so what?! Be a better human. Stop blasting kids who are actually trying to succeed, at the same point or above where you already gave up on your son There is a reason that Long Island lacrosse makes fun of Maryland. It is you.
You can make fun of MD all you like. Long Island children would benefit from the approach taken by most MD independent schools in offering a pre-first year to those kids who need one.
My son did a pre-first year, and now by your logic is considered a "holdback". His pre-first year allowed him time to mature from a boy who wanted to play all day into a boy who began to understand the difference between classroom and playground and act accordingly. He is now an A student. Were we wrong to allow him time to mature? How does our decision affect you or anyone else?
Read the science - boys and girls mature at different rates. Many more boys do a pre-first year than girls.
Many parents struggle with deciding whether to do a pre-first year. I have spoken with a number of families about the decision, both before and years afterward. The parents who decide to have their child do a pre-first year never (NEVER!) regret it. At five years old, it isn't done for athletics, at least not by most parents; it is done for well-being and gives the child a chance to mature academically and reach their potential as they progress through school. I wish I had been granted the opportunity as a child.
Are there some kids who move from public to private schools and repeat ninth grade? Sure. Do some do it for athletics? Yes, of course. The large majority do it for academic reasons. Should USA Lacrosse be actively trying to change the system to protect smaller players from being hurt while playing against larger kids who are older (and in some cases much larger) yet in the same grade-based division? Absolutely. The problem isn't the kid who did a pre-first year - the problem is the grade-based system that the clubs and some high schools perpetuate.
It has nothing to do with smarts. It has everything to do with what is right for the child. No one cares what you do for your child to have a better education, Hold him back in Kindergarten and 8th grade for academics, that is two grades down, no one cares... What has all that got to do with your son getting an advantage at Youth lacrosse that other children with exact same birthday don't get. Did holding him back in Kindergarten ,( that is what it is, you sugar coat it with prefirst) give you a right to play down ??? You are a holdback just like the 8th grader in youth lacrosse, Frankly you are worst, you play against younger children when it actually is a huge advantage 1st-7th grade, Gosh, your knuckles must get sore dragging the ground like that. Typical response from a holdback apologist. No response to what is written, just some name calling. Dont like the truth do you. You try to justify little jonny playing down against younger children from 1st grade thru 8 grade. You imply parents are doing what is right for them?? What ??? No one cares what you do for his education, no one ! But this is youth sports, you know young kids playing that are in elementary school , and somehow your reasoning is that since little jonny couldn't keep up with the other kindergarders, he needs a break and should be allowed to play down. LOL..Yea, that a good reason. I really would like you to have some decent reason and argument for justifying little jonny playing down., but I know you are not capable of one Hey, we get it Karen. You don't like the system, so you blame the parents and the kids. I would remove the system, parents and kids from the equation and think of it more as a pride and being a man thing. I don't think anyone blames the kids. They just get in the car and play where their parents tell them to play. The problem is the parents who brag about their kids who play down and the system that glorifies a 15 year old who predictably can athletically beat a his 13 year old classmate (the one who is trying to succeed at his own level). This is not a situation about girls developing earlier than boys. This is an all boys league - not co-ed. That was a cop out. I can understand making the decision that your son needs an extra year to get caught up. Boys and girls develop at different rates, but so do two boys born on the same day sitting in the same class. That is true academically, psychologically and physically. No one faults a parent who makes a decision to better their child's future at the expense of delaying it. Just don't pretend like they are something that they are not. They are fourth graders playing kickball against second graders. You are hopefully doing what you feel is right for your son. You are hopefully not doing it for your own gratification. But mocking kids who are playing their own actual age; because they were able to keep up in school and in sports, is pathetic. Mocking the kid who decided not to fail a year even though they were not at the top of the pack athletically but could pass muster academically and socially is weak.

Why Did Team MD enter an aloha tournament? Talk about a waste of time. Do you need to ask?? That is their talent level. MM only is into two teams,,,I mean two people in org. Team91 is going the path of True. Pay to play. Glorified rec. Isn't that what all of youth lacrosse is now? Rec lacrosse is repackaged and rebranded and comes with 2 seasons, 6 extra play days a year and a price tag that matches what most of us paid for our first car.

Not surprised considering their coach is RAGE. The kids on Hawks do not understand the concept of sportsmanship or being humble. Kids on the team posting disparaging things about other teams constantly, talk trash about teams while on the field.
They simply are not what they once were. They cut the wrong goalie, depend on the coaches kid too much and hardly play some kids on their team.
My son's team played them this past weekend, did not do well, only scored 2 on them and we were glad for the experience. Would not be upset to not deal with their antics or parents on the sidelines. They have 3 parents who are not role models for their kids and talk almost as much as the kids. The owner of that team should look to see how that team represents themselves. Sure they used to win a lot, but what are they teaching the boys?
Out of all the teams we played, they were the only one where the coach has to bark at the kids and tell them exactly what to do at all times, let the kids play and be themselves!

Easy to see who wrote this. The "wrong goalie" that they cut now gives up triple the goals of the other goalie on True. RAGE has acted the same way since these kids were in 3rd grade. Hawks parents are like any other group of parents- a few memorable loudmouths. They aren't as dominant as they were, but that is because you cannot sustain that level. They are still a good measuring stick to see where your team is.

If we could only all have your sportsmanship and humility! Mr. Dad of the Year Candidate, what exactly are you teaching your son by posting on here anonymously? Everyone loves seeing them lose, but c'mon, dude, give us a break. RAGE coaches from the sideline?! Oh the humanity! They have a few bad parents? How awful and out-of-the-ordinary! They cut the wrong goalie? You scored 2 goals. Sit down. You're embarrassing yourself. If tools like you weren't so obsessed then maybe they can be what they might actually be, a run of the mill team who will eventually fade into the mean. There's gotta be something else people on here can actually talk about.

This Dad's post will not win any prizes, but the Hawks players do have pretty awful sportsmanship, both on the field and on social media. Reflects badly on their coaches and parents.

In their defense Hawks dads have been a lot quieter lately. Wonder why. Calling out team on social media is a clown show and direct reflection of the coach. Big wake up call coming when their friends daddy isn't the coach in a year. Enjoy the show.

Thanks Hawks Dad. Your lack of self awareness around the entire 26 Hawks community and how obnoxious you all are is part of why the rest of the 26 community can’t stand you.
I only have a 26 player, but have many friends who are involved in lacrosse at all ages. Every one of them has commented about the reputation of the Hawks 26 team as the worst of the worst across all ages. The coach is insane and acts like a lunatic. The parents are beyond obnoxious. And the kids say things on the field to the other teams that everyone involved should be embarrassed about.
So congrats Hawks 26 team. While you have lost your #1 ranking on the field, you remain the #1 team that everyone hates.

He’s just making a fool of himself and his family. It’s the players attitudes and behaviors on the field towards their opponents and a lot of the time their own teammates that makes you stop and realize what kind of culture the Hawks organization is. The 2026 team is the epitome of the club. But here’s the thing. It’s been like this since day 1 with the team. It’s not changing even if the faces change from year to year. It’s their way. So let the animonsity go and just be glad you’re not associated in any way.

I think most of the parents are very happy to be part of that toxicity. They put the window sticker right next their Yacht Club sticker to show "their" elite status. But since a large number of those kids don't actually contribute to the outcome, it transparent empty social boasting. I was approached through intermediaries about taking my son there a few different times over the years. I spoke to my son about the offer. My son told me point blank: "Don't waste your money, I won't play for that coach." He could have been winning all of the time and playing/practicing at a higher level; but he declined because of his and their character. (He (not me) described the kids on that team that he knows from school as arrogant and jerks, except for a couple.) That may be to the detriment of his lacrosse development and future recruiting stock. But that is only part of his life. At the end of the day, I don't want that kind of guy to be a role model in son's life. I am very proud of his (my son's) values. He plays for a coach that is very knowledgeable and more importantly very human. The team has fun and and wins a fair bit.

Well said, but Hawks players recruiting stock is not as high as you may think. College coaches know the 2026 Hawks reputation and look at cultural fit (players and parents) as much as they look at playing ability.

Would you mind saying what team your son is on? I feel like many elite 2026 teams do not have much fun. Division 1 college players say that lacrosse is like a full time grind, and sadly many 8th grade players who are on track to play at that level already feel that way too. When the fall season ended, my son said that he needed a break until spring, as did several of his teammates. I know you are just one parent's opinion but I would be interested to know what team can win its share at the elite level and still have fun.

So 3 poorly behaved parents on a team of 20-25? That seems light compared to most teams you see at tournaments. Yes, but those three are act so Hawkward Agreed that it is their institutional culture. I think most of the parents are very happy to be part of that toxicity. They put the window sticker right next their Yacht Club sticker to show "their" elite status. But since a large number of those kids don't actually contribute to the outcome, it transparent empty social boasting. Most sports are getting that way. The fun is being squeezed out of our children in many ways with a race to the top. Do many of them still have fun. Of course. But it sure takes a toll on many

Well said, but Hawks players recruiting stock is not as high as you may think. College coaches know the 2026 Hawks reputation and look at cultural fit (players and parents) as much as they look at playing ability. Please list the names of college coaches who know the 2026 Hawks and concerned about the culture of the team. I'm neutral on this board, but am happy to call out nonsense like this. You all are just trolls or need to get a grip.

Are you serious? That’s like saying please list the names of college coaches who know that the 91 and MadLax owners are difficult people, or who know that Crabs have a lot holdbacks.

Are you serious? That’s like saying please list the names of college coaches who know that the 91 and MadLax owners are difficult people, or who know that Crabs have a lot holdbacks. Okay, so it's the latter. No college coaches are keeping tabs on the whisper-down-the-lane BOTC rumor mill about the culture of a team. Assuming they even know, do you think they care that the Crabs have holdbacks or that the Madlax owner is a first class donk? They watch players, meet them, and then make informed decisions.
