Asked my son the other day what was going on at 91.
His response- “No one wants to play for 91 anymore.”
All the kids who came over from 91 on my sons team this year pulled their decals off before tryouts. So something is going on over there. Things go in and out of trend. Or it’s just run it’s course. Seems like 91 is the new Looney’s. Are you kidding me? Most of the kids that are vacating probably weren’t making the cut at 91. Their 2024 team is one of the better teams in the country (arguably the best in MD) and their 2025 team is hands down the #1 team in the nation. The better kids will come to the 26’s and 27’s next year. Go play for your AA program and continue to bash the best. Come on Mark, Lighten up

Kids sense middle school club lacrosse doesn't matter if its not fun. Since lacrosse and school is their whole world, its confusing. Then they have enough of being told about the next level and what ifs. They dont care. They just want to play with their friends and have fun. If they are good enough and grow, HS lacrosse will be awesome. If not, then MM will make them world class miserable robot cone dodging mini a-holes.

24s looked really good today, along with 25s and 26ers. 27s have also turned the corner.

My son told me that as well..............which is ironic, because if you look at 91s IG feed during tryouts week, they are quick to show closeups of the kids trying out for 91 with Crabs, FCA, HoCo helmets. For the younger age groups the "tryouts" were pretty much the existing 91 kids plus some kids from Perry Hall / Swarm. All black helmets. Maybe 80 kids tried out, total for 2028, 2029, 2030, 2031. MM better get those numbers up if he wants a good price for selling the club in another 18 months!

I was wondering who would bring that up. It's owned, not operated by DSM. Like a franchise. MM can certainly cash out his operation to an individual but not an entity like 3 Step etc.

The club world keeps evolving. The community programs are doing a better job of providing club level lacrosse at a lower cost for grade school and perhaps into middle school. These private clubs should focus on having elite teams starting in 7/8th grade

Millon is the operator of Team 91 MD not the owner. His brand is Millon Lacrosse which you are now seeing running lacrosse events for other organizations.

Th This is certainly true in Maryland. Private school lacrosse has a disproportionate value relative to lacrosse players wanting to play in college @ D1. If you are a very good youth player and go to a public middle school, your best path is to find a private. Spalding, Calvert Hall, Loyola all have open doors to diverse populations. They are great educations and have great lacrosse programs and coaches to mentor your sons.

I recall St. Pauls admission approval is about 10%, Loyola is about 20%, Calvert Hall is about 25-30%. Loyola's MIDDLE SCHOOL is about 30%. At any of these schools with a MS, remember that 1/3 of the MS kids matriculating to HS "play club lax" and most of those play AAA/Elite ball. And the coaches know who they are. So it's not like the coaches are running out to find 8th grade kids with 3.1 GPAs from public MS and get them admitted because they can shoot with their left hand. They have 15+ kids per year who already can handle the academics, understand the rules of conduct, and are "fast enough" and can "basically play at a HS level." Now.......will they cut those MS kids at JV and Varsity for studs who show up out of the public school system (or Texas)? Yes, 100%. With no remorse. But it's up to your son to be that stud.

Now.......will they cut those MS kids at JV and Varsity for studs who show up out of the public school system (or Texas)? Yes, 100%. With no remorse. But it's up to your son to be that stud. All the AIMS (Association of Independent MD & DC Schools) have doors open to diverse populations. While some families are fortunate to be able to afford the tuition, those families that can't are offered a financial aid package with their admission letter - sometimes a little, sometimes a full package based on financial need. Academics, arts, athletics all are taken into account as admissions offers are made. Some schools go after athletes with $$ even though the family can afford the tuition. MIAA rules discourage athletic scholarships, so the schools with money to offer athletes call it "merit aid" and kids get recruited. One school will offer a few thousand in merit aid, and the same kid will get offered a full ride elsewhere, even though the family has the ability to pay. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. The open spots at each private HS that has a middle school can vary from year to year. I believe there are fewer spots all around this year as parents continue to look toward the independent schools after bad experiences with remote learning in the publics. The coaches at my son's school have been watching the MS boys for years and have some of them working with varsity players to learn their positions/offensive schemes/etc. Our school likes to develop from within, others like to recruit. Like local club teams - some recruit away from other teams to build a wining team, others stick with the kids who have been in the club and help them develop. Some schools continue to recruit boys through high school in order to offset attrition or to bring on a talented recruit. This happens more at some schools based on the philosophy of the athletic department, similar to teams in the NFL. Some teams like to draft and develop, other teams pay for talent in free agency. Another factor among the MIAA/IAAM schools is the number of college counselors and the counselor/student ratio. Private schools are keenly aware of why parents make the investment - primarily college admissions. The prep work for college is given a high degree of attention, and the number of kids a counselor has in his/her portfolio is much smaller in the private schools. Public school counselors may work with hundreds of kids in each grade year, private schools a few dozen. This makes a big difference, as the private school counselors have more time to develop relationships with the college admissions folks. If a kid is in contact with the coaching staff, and the counselor is talking with admissions, the chance for a successful recruitment is much higher. Check out the MIAA group on Facebook, in which you can see the connections between local private schools and colleges. Hopefully this is helpful info to some of the folks on here.

This year there are a smaller number of slots than usual due to a large eighth grade moving from MS to US. Generally, the new student admission pool is below 20%.

[quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous] You really believe St. Paul's has an admission's acceptance rate of 10%? With 500 kids K-12, uhh yeah. About 20-25 matriculate from 8th to 9th at SP, leaving 10-20 total spots for new 9th graders, most of whom are coming in from K-8 private schools......not public schools. Be an athletic stud, a legacy kid, or roll in with a 3.9 GPA from public school. Being "the best 3rd line middie on the T91" and a 3.1 at Dumbarton ain't going to cut it for 9th grade admissions unless you are talking Spalding, Palotti, Curley, or MSJ. And yeah, what this is all about, is college admissions and future alumni donations. You will donate more money back to St Pauls if St Pauls gets you to Yale instead of Frostburg. #facts

Ten years ago, the SP middle school classes were roughly 50 boys. The ninth grade entry point usually meant adding another 30-ish boys to the class. There are roughly 70 boys in the 8th grade at SP this year. Upper school classes are limited to about 85. A few boys will leave for other upper schools, but most will stay. That means maybe 10-15 boys will be admitted.

They have ties with 3? clubs plus girls clubs because field rental is an easy source of income. Acc to Google they have a $78 million endowment from which they only pull about 3% per year, which most years is interest income...and only some of it. SP admitted something like 15 new boys into 9th grade and 5 new boys into 10th grade this past year. As the other guy said, that # will be lower this coming spring. I'm sure they admit some total duds like any other private school but it's not like they are just opening up runways for new students to roll in....or that they need to.

$78M in endowment, but they need field rental income?
Rock, Predators and Koopers- Every kid from those clubs are on the St P's recruiting lists.
I find it very hard to believe they are only bringing in 15 new kids between 8th and 9th grades. I don't know a lot of St P people but I know 2 new freshmen, personally? Hmmm....

No Koopers or Rock 2028 teams. Only Predators. You can expect kids to come over next year from other programs with the addition of McDonough Coach in the Preds program. I bet the bottom half of that team gets cut with better talent coming in.

I also see lots of Towson and Dulaney kids getting into top schools and academic programs. Not so much top lax schools, but they are getting the education they need to succeed and have a lower chance of turning into [ChillLaxin].

I’ve started an MIAA program and a D 3 program and I was an assistant for a national team as well as an assistant on a team that played in national championship. Since you obviously have a lot of time so please feel free to research who I am, Looney's kids/parents don't count!

Predators are an up and coming club. Will be a match for Crabs and Hawks soon. ...Like someone said..Talk of Baltimore

Team 91 2023 - any parents on the 2023 team have any insight to why the best close-defender on the team who has been with 91 since he started playing lacrosse is now on FCA? The #1 defender did indeed leave for FCA. Also lost their #1 middie and #1 goalie. With the d-pole, apparently the family had finally had enough of the 2023 team neglect and antics. Little MM plays on the 2023 team when he feels like it which brings dad back to the sideline so he can instruct #1 son while disrupting what little chemistry the 23's have due to a revolving door of players, coaches and particularly the cameo appearances of the gifted one. I heard from a friend's son that he only played 2 of their 3 games the other week, going home before the last game because he didn't feel like playing the 3rd game. Heaven help any other players on that team if they tried to do the same (or while playing taking poor shots every possession resulting in the D being exhausted due to short possessions) The question shouldn't be why did a player leave, rather why have any stayed?

Wow !! That isnt a good read on a storied program or the gifted one.

Kid quit on his team and didn't play the last game? Went home? Sounds like the parents have a mental case. If you gonna move, at least play out your commitment. Sounds like privilege to me. Waaaaaaa. As a parent and former coach, no one wants a kid who quits on any team. Good riddance.
