The 27 year is very talented across the board on multiple clubs on the island. Much more so than 2026 for some reason. There is a steep drop off in the 27 year right now. FLG/YJ and the. Everyone else. Liberty was at the top of that everyone else but their team took a big hit this year so it will be interesting to see how the rest group looks at the end of next summer. As for the differences between years, that always happens. Maybe the 26 year is a big soccer year. With all the “optional” trainings that really aren’t optional makes it hard to play multiple travel sports. Kids are sadly being forced to choose. I watched YJ 27 B team last year (Gaghan) and it was a 2 girl teams. Assuming both girls moved either to A team or somewhere else, i can't see this team being competitive at all. Not sure I see the depth at the 27 level. I don't think anyone moved up on this team. They also gained a few girls from the A team. I think this team will be very competitive

I'm not a YJ parent, Im not even a Long Island parent, but beating a M&D team that went 44-5 or beating a Hero's team (TWICE) that went 42-6, is a heck of an accomplishment. They lost 4 times all year to teams at the 2027 level. To say "they don't win" is absurdity. Thanks for absolutely confirming you are a YJ parent....either that or it is insanely scary you know stats for a 12 year old lacrosse team and how it faired given you aren't even associated with them or live on LI.[/quote] It took all of one click if you go to https://USCL.com/rank?y=2020&alpha=N&v=2027Its all right there.

That said, they had 5-6 girls on the team who should have been playing rec. If they upgrade talent here, the team could be top 25 nationally

Some teams didn’t have tryouts last summer so they were based on when the girls tried out in 5th grade. There was a ton of movement across all the teams so it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. My guess is YJ A, YJ B, TG and FLG will be the strongest in this age group on LI.

As an outsider, who is thinking about travel lax.....there seems to be an over abundance of discussion with YJ. Good and bad. How do they match up against Long Island teams? wins/loses It’s really a very small group of 1. Yj parents obsessed with themselves and 2. People who detest them. As said no one doubts they are tops. But as sommeone said, 15ish girls playing, 10 girls parents drinking the koolaid and not playing. End of the day, do as much research as you can and find a place where your daughter will play and get better. The rest is all noise. YJ talent is off the charts. The fact they don’t win is a reflection directly on the coaching. Just look at all these pickup teams full of YJ girls coached by volunteers. They rarely lose. Just imagine if this team had qualified coaches….. Its less about having quality coaches and more about how the team is managed. For better or worse, most YJ program past 5th grade operate like a traditional high school club program where there is minimal practice and practices are focused on set plays, defense rotations and not much on core skill development. This makes sense for them since almost all of the girls (on the A team at least) have outside coaches. This is one of the key reasons their B teams at the middle school level often struggle across a season and girls who get added to the team each year usually come from other clubs. There are lots of 5-star recruits who started club lacrosse as average lacrosse player with unreal athleticism. And then the club team develops you. This rarely happens at YJ. If you look at the top MD clubs, they promote multiple players from their B team nearly every year. If you are looking for skill development, YJ is probably not the best club. If you are looking for exposure, it is. In terms of top NY clubs, Prime Time and Jesters are the one who probably place the most emphasis on player development, especially at the youth level. Please keep in mind I am not a YJ hater. I just think parents who are new to the sport or have kids in other sports need to understand how the model works.

It’s a very specific model that doesn’t work for everyone. There is limited training (compare the clinics YJ offers vs any other club). You join for the brand and exposure but not development. And they will really only push the A team later on. The other teams are there to pad the accounts.

Most of the girls making the trip from Nassau to YJ have generally joined the team once they were above average lax players. Most mentioned skill development was lacking but 100% top exposure

So, if my daughter very young - I should start her with a club that has more development and training? See how that goes and possibly move later for the exposure?

I wouldn't consider YJ for a good lacrosse playing girl under 8th or maybe 7th grade. Lots of teams out there will better instruction. (One key caveat is that YJ is much more accepting of multi sport athletes than other clubs -- they will never bench someone for missing a practice). You just don't want your daughter to be the best player on her team. Challenge is that some of the better long island teams don't play outside NY until 7th or 8th grade. Top Guns play NGLL against top Westchester and Jersey teams which is some of the best competition. The shame is that the top 3 Westchester club programs do so much better than the LI ones on player development. Empire and Liberty probably send the most middle school girls to YJ over time.

At this age you should be watching to see if your kid is getting better. Travel lax isn’t cheap. Be on a team that is working on her skills. She doesn’t need exposure yet she is 12. If she develops the talent needed to play at the next level she will find a school to play at. If you need to pay for a ton of extra lessons on top of travel costs you should reevaluate the team she is on and what your end game will be. Not every kid is a rockstar.

YJA and FLG wouldn't be top two teams on Long Island without having the top goalies on Long Island. Both teams will be just fine. Seeing FLG just lost one of their goalies to YJ A not so sure they will be fine. The slow bleed continues….

Stop with the BS, this is a LI forum, Prime Time is an excellent program, but theyre in westchester. YJ teams are legit. The top team is very good, and their 2nd team would beat most A teams. Jesters mentioned in this conversation is ridiculous, their 2027 team is average at best and can’t compete currently on LI let alone nationally. This is a long island forum? I guess Northeast Lacrosse equals long island, then. Also, the discussion was about player development, not the top teams. If Jesters and Empire are such bad programs why did YJ add 4 players to their 27 A team from them

Watching YJ A play my daughter's team yesterday, the biggest thing I noticed was not stick-skills, IQ or coaching (I'm not saying they didn't have talent, they did).
It was physical maturity. In 7th grade, some girls are girls and some are young women. YJ had a lot of young women and the difference was very obvious.

What usually sets youth YJ teams apart is physical maturity, speed and shooting abiilty. Lots of team have really good stickwork, but no youth teams shoot like YJ. I dont think the 27s have the speed of past YJ youth teams, but there size (especially in midfield) and shooting ability is second to none. Not as much speed on this team. Not to say they are slow, but the last two YJ A teams could just fly past opponents when they were in 7th grade.

YJ A right up there of course, though I think they tend to press.

How big are the rosters that they can afford to do this?
