Would any of the crabs, fca or ML kids actually make it?
27 holdbacks are always sugar on top.

If you’re the best player in any of those teams— you should be trying to get on the hawks this year. I don’t think any Crabs players will make it.

What about the Crabs? They kinda stink. The 27 holdbacks will dominate most likely.

There’s basically one player on True that could make the Hawks

27 may dominate this year, but they will come back to reality. After all they couldn’t cut it with their own age kids.

Two straight years of holdbacks for the Hawks. In previous years they at least waited until 8th grade or claimed the “pre first” argument. Hawks turning into the Crabs.

All top Clubs turning into and following the Crabs model for winning.

This whole thing is just dense at this point. Any kid playing on age is actually playing up at this point haha!

That’s at least 4 in two years including the entire attack.

At this rate all the “elite” kids from certain teams will be driving to practice in 8th grade.

Gotta love the middle schoolers with cars!

Let’s see, new Hawks poster with an angry bend, same week dad with angry bend moves his kid to 28 hawks…

That’s ok, I would be pissed too if my kid couldn’t play on age. Fortunately he can, and with old kids as it happens.

Nationals, Mad Dog National, True National

This list is from a little while ago, but it's weird to me that there are four MD teams in the top two tiers and only one VA team. I'm not arguing with the rankings, but when is someone going to pull together a team with the better NOVA boys who aren't up for MadLax 28 drama?

I’m not from nova, but is their lax culture the same as MD? They have ML and NL which are both close, not sure there are anough boys to support another elite team today.

NoVa doesn’t have nearly the same lax culture as MD. Baltimore and Annapolis obviously have much stronger lax cultures historically than NoVa. Even in the DC suburbs lacrosse is much more popular in the MD suburbs than the NoVA suburbs. NL 2028 for instance doesn’t have any NoVA players. They are all MD suburbs and 1-2 DC. Besides Madlax, which is majority NoVa kids, but also has a significant number of MD players, the only other club that plays at a higher level in VA is VLC. The formed a 2028 this year with much of the Cavs kids coming over. But they won’t be an elite team this year or perhaps ever. There just aren’t as many kids that play lacrosse in Va to have another club at the highest levels until they approach high school when VLC often gets better. But VA is not at all comparable to MD in lacrosse.

Most of Cavs 2028's best players moved to VLC (and one to ML).

A lot of these have shifted but from the past it has been…

91 - McD
FCA - CH
Looneys - Loyola
Koopers - St. Paul’s
Hawks - st Mary’s, some years like 22 heavy spalding
Crabs - bl and Gilman
Madlax - Landon
BLC/DCE - Georgetown prep/Gonzaga
Severn, JC and MSJ pull from everyone as does Dematha. New Gilman coach is on staff with crabs so that will get tighter. MIAA Coaches are all over top teams at HoCo so the “feeder” system has changed for younger groups.

Baltimore Lax is a mess. Endless switching of teams and coaches it seems

Madlax and Hawks seem to have most consistency

We’ll think about it, ML and Hawks are kind of off by themselves. True/USS used to be the shore, and there is really nobody other than NL near ML.

Kids/Coaches in BMore have more options.

How did it take three whole replies for someone to cram Hawks and MadLax into this conversation? Is that some kind of record?

Very true actually. Hard to say quit a Madlax or hawks team and go play for Crabs. Too far

I don’t think MadLax has staying power.

Hawks has been holding them back, so they’ll be around for a while. Crabs will get the holdback pipeline primed in no time!

So, we are talking about 12, cough, 11 year olds and let's open up this "relevance" argument that 99% of Hawks v ML Dads have over here every.single.day. It is 100% about who, even at this age, is virtually guaranteed to play D1 ball in college. It's a statistical lock (until the local Hawks kids get booted by new kids from TX and FL in 9th grade, anyway).

If your son plays lax at any one of MD's decent private HS programs...scratch that....if he is even on the VARSITY ROSTER and he impresses the right coaches on the right days, he will have a shot at playing lax "somewhere" at college. Maybe no money, maybe it's a horrible D3 squad IDK. If you are the #3 goalie at St. Marys and you impress at a showcase, guess what (for full tuition) you can play for Northern Western Rocky Mountain Mining College of South Colorado, the Fighting Trainwrecks. Achieving that modest goal is beyond what most players (esp if you include public school) in MD are willing to work for at age 14-16....to say nothing of age 10-12. So mark that data point. Can you and your (decent but not amazing talent) kid force in that life goal of "playing in college?" Yeah you can. It happens often.

The relevance is here. Your upper A, middle level B, or even low end AAA club will have a few college commits. If your kid plays that level ball, which most boys on HS rosters do (by the numbers), 2-4 of 22 kids will have a chance to move on. Most won't be motivated to, though, at this level.

Your High AA, Good AAA and Low End Elite clubs look different statistically. The entire first line will play college "somewhere." See "NWRMMCSCU Fighting Trainwrecks" above. A few D1 kids........maybe. 2nd and 3rd line players....may play for the Fighting Trainwrecks in another sport. "Your mileage may vary."

Hawks, ML, and to a lesser extent Crabs rosters are different. A quick google search shows they are sending THE ENTIRE ROSTER TO PLAY LAX IN COLLEGE and 10-12 of those boys are going D1! This is why these same 5 dads stay up all night and all day pontificating about these programs. As long as their boys make the cut, their trajectory is a lock. If they don't burn out and quit of course.

Fun stats, if your kid plays on a A-level club, he has the same chance at playing for a poor D3 school, as an average Hawks kid has of playing for Harvard or USNA.

This is the data the ML and Hawks dads are looking at. I'd be talking about it all day too, maybe.

There aren't choices like ML and Hawks in Bmore. Not at this age level. Crabs? FCA Blue? Who else? Certainly not the 91 squad or the GrTurt/Looneys/Koopers brigade. Not Kelly Post AAA. All good clubs but a half step to several steps behind the 28 hawks and ml.

If the argument is "by 9th grade there are more elite options in Bmore than AACO-PGCO-HOCO," OK that's a great 2-beer debate.

Given the # of AACO and HOCO kids attending Balt City / County MIAA schools for full price year after year, it seems like many parents have no problem with the distance LOL. Maybe they also think there's more elite options in Balt?!

Might want to stay away from the liquor cabinet .

Fall roster for NL is not set yet as there is still another tryout, but they are trying to field two teams. They had good numbers at the first tryout, but it is hard to say if it was enough for a B team to actually get traction. Most of the best players at the first tryout were current NL players. Didn’t see any notable kids from other teams in Elite.

If your son plays lax at any one of MD's decent private HS programs...scratch that....if he is even on the VARSITY ROSTER and he impresses the right coaches on the right days, he will have a shot at playing lax "somewhere" at college. No way, this is exactly the sort of crazy 1am rant that keeps me coming back here.

It's all about the kids' EDUCACTION, you see -- that's why there are such fierce debates on here about whether Baltimore or the Eastern Shore has the best SAT prep courses.

I would add GPrep and SJCH (to a lesser extent) to the Madlax schools list. Mater Dei (1st thru 8th) is the main feeder for Prep and over the last 3 or so years ML has been penetrating the school pretty significantly. A lot of this was driven by the 23 Madlax team when they moved over enbloc. All the littles at Mater Dei worship the 23 Dawgs.

There was an article in paper about Mater Dei and how 85% of students were held back.

There is more of a connection between Next Level and SJC than Madlax. But more generally, there isn’t that strong of a connection between any one club and one school for the DC teams.

Madlax tends to have a lot of Landon and Prep kids, but there are lots of Landon and Prep kids at DCE or NL. And there are lots of Madlax kids that don’t go to either Landon or Prep. As a rough approximation, the following leans are probably true right now, but these change significantly year to year. Until recently no one was going to SJC for lax for instance.

Madlax - tend to be Landon and Prep heavy. But also strong presence at Gonzaga and SSSAS and more recently some SJC.

Next Level - really depends on the year. 22 and 24 are SJC heavy. 23 has a lot of Bullis. 20 and 21 had a lot of Gonzaga. Not as many Landon kids as Madlax, but each team generally has multiple Landon kids. Fewer Prep kids than one might guess, but there are some.

Bethesda/DCE- Recently Bullis and Prep heavy, but also have Landon and Gonzaga. Probably will see more SJC in the future if SJC stays good.
