OK, let's simplify:
Seaford kid plays for 91 starting in 2nd grade Kid submitted all Seaford residence and school paperwork and was approved in 2020 for WSYL Same kid is on Team 91 and living on Long Island in July 2020 Kid moves to TX (during Covid) and continues to practice and play regularly with 91 Parents and 91 request and confirm with WSYL Organization that kid is still eligible due to unique circumstances Multiple teams see kid during qualifiers and post the TX kid issue here on BOTC. Several teams know, and even CoachC knows. Kid and parents provide photo with TX club info and did not hide in any way Kid was great in Qualifiers Kid comes up frequently and works his rear end off. Kid comes back full time after school year finishes in TX Kid is really great in WSYL 91 won 5 games and lost 0 in preliminaries 91 wins quarterfinal and semi final games 91 Plays in Championship game on TV and wins 9-5
91 Received Trophy from Jake and Quint and are told they are the Champs Kid gets a plaque and a watch from WSYL
91 not giving back trophy Kid not giving back plaque or watch
Signed
The Champs If above is what happened congrats to the boy and family. Plus the people who organize get to make the rules and why wouldn't you want to let a kid play in these circumstances. Glad his coaches reached out to ask for him to play. If this world had some more empathy we all would be better off. I have no affiliation with 91 and not from LI and have multiple sons who play for teams that lose more to 91 than win. These guys are just good! If you truly appreciate the game of lacrosse and you have chance to watch them at a summer tournament sit back and enjoy.

The Texas kid definitely deserved an opportunity to play in the WSYL but for a Texas team! There were several at qualifiers. I am sure he would have made a difference for a Texas team. Did Texas teams have an option for adding him to their teams after he moved? Obviously 91 wanted the kid to play for them because he is so good. If he wasn't so good then 91 would have replaced him. Teams in Maryland have lots of lax kids that move all the time because of all the military families in the area. Families are often moving back and forth from states with a heavy military presence such as Texas, Florida and North Carolina. 91 cheated and got away with it. Why even bother requiring school records or 100 mile rule. The rule is different for the least populated areas. Maybe should be a much smaller area in urban areas like Long Island, Philly, Baltimore etc. like 20 miles. 91 wouldn't have made it out of pool play without the MVP. Looking forward to next year when other teams use this 91 loophole to add kids.

The Champs This win will always have a big asterisk on it it. Did parents and 91 request an exception? Would be great to hear from WSYL as to how it was handled.

If a tournament is area based, and a team got tournament heads to approve a player, don't complain. Cant have it both ways. My point is it’s an apples and oranges argument made. Two totally different topics 1. Rules exception- I don’t agree with WSYL determination on the exception made. With the way WSYL rules are currently written, at time of qualifier tournament, a roster should be set with no exceptions to the rules. I agree with complaints to bring proper change to enforce the rules set. 2. holdback advantage- holdback recognition (not complaining) will be minimal if “holdback centric” teams were a little more humble when they beat up on “on age centric” grade based teams rather than talk smack and pound chest. This is why it’s good to throw in an age based tournament every now and again to keep all honest, so to speak, and at same time figure out what a team needs to better develop. Bottom line - two totally different topics

I thank God every day that I don't live on the Island and only have to deal with "yous" guys 3-4 times a year. You are arrogant, loud know-it-alls. And you park like fools. JS out there getting pimping his kids. As my son said, "thank God I don't have one of his kids in my grade".

Anyone have any intel on Checkmate Lacrosse out of GC? Saw a tryout announcement and have never heard of them.
I know asking about a non-AAAA team is always risky here, but I'm wondering if it might be an option for my son.

I know asking about a non-AAAA team is always risky here, but I'm wondering if it might be an option for my son. Years ago they were run and owned by Gordon Purdie (Adelphi HC and HOF laxer). They were a small organization with lots of Adelphi alum and players helping coach and train. Probably a low B level. I heard he sold and it fell apart once they moved away from GC. If its back and he's involved it is a good inexpensive option away from the hyper competitive nonsense.

WSYL over now everyone you play will be older, not grade age, guest players, you name it. Deal with it. Everyone will be chasing the big clubs to get their kid recruited. So unrealistic for a 2025 to be thinking about that already. Sadly for most of them it's not much fun anymore. Nowadays if you tell a coach or program you're not looking to play in college you become an outsider.
