WSYL schedules up. What are peoples thoughts? I think that most people are not thrilled to go. Even though we qualified most people I have spoken with question having to give up an entire week of work and the expenses related to an average tournament in DC. We did it in Denver for my oldest in the first ever year and it was a great experience, although outrageously expensive. This year some very non competitive local teams made it and the power programs are not attending due to age.

Many of the non-attending teams could field great on age squads, but you don't want to break up training for grade based programs for one tourney that people don't care much about. My son is on age, but 5 on his teammates are not (4 august and one july bday...4 stared kindergarten late and one repeated K) so his squad is not attending. They could have easily brought up 5 kids from the 26s and not lost anything talent-wise but then you mess up practices for all the other summer tourneys as you need those kids to play in qualifiers and a couple other tourneys before WSYL.

Really, your 2026 kids are on par with your over-age 2025s? In that case, it sounds like your club did them a massive disservice by not bringing them up and giving them a shot. Especially, when this tournament is within driving distance..... It would be much better for the sport if all tournaments had standardized age-verification. Then we could stop with all the back and forth about who is bringing older kids down, who is playing over-aged kids, etc.

The disservice would be to bring them up for one lightly regarded tourney while potentially harming the 26 team for multiple more high level tourneys.

It’s “lightly regarded” because your team is not participating? This definitely one of top 3-4 tournaments this year.

The tournament is just like any other except it costs you 4x as much. Wake up and stop choking on the WYSL Koolaide. Hope all of the laxaholics enjoy it because this will be the last year anyway. 5-6 hr drive is "within driving distance"....Ok buddy! 2 hrs is driving distance. Enjoy your 12 hr roundtrip drive vs 4 hrs of lacrosse and a picture they wil upcharge you for. Clowns!

That could be part of it, but I think it has more to do with it only being a single age group or 2 age groups for 2021. Much more exciting to be at a larger tourney where there are top teams, but also get to cheer on other ages from your club, hang out with them before and after games etc. They try and hype it up a lot with regional qualifiers, but every decent team qualifies and it loses even more luster when you have teams dropping out and others added without even qualifying. Many tournaments can be described as a money grab, but this takes it to the extreme imo.

Regulators actually did qualify...like it or not... You may not agree with the brackets but they did technically qualify. Rebels isnt even on the North Qualifier link that shows advancing teams. You sure they are in? https://worldseriesofyouthlacrosse.com/qualifiers/north-regional-qualifier/

If your team could field a competitive on-age team they would be there. The teams that miss this tournament are giving themselves away - they are relying on over-age kids and are far less competitive if they have to field a verified age-eligible team.

How did that happen? They got rolled at the qualifiers. WSYL lets anyone in? What is the purpose of a qualifier then? That is such a bad look for the event and for the team(s) that got the "Need to fill slots" invitations.

Please, the Rebels need to write a nice letter to the Canadian prime minister for locking the boarders and holding the 2 Canadian teams home for the WSYL and giving the Rebels their roster spot. Rebels went 1-2 in the qualifier day one which determined them out of the WSYL but later got in as a space filler, cheers.

Can we just let the games happen this week and see?
I saw this 2025 Rebels team up close this weekend. They have a handful of physically mature (I don't buy that they aren't on-age though), tough offensive players. Coaches seemed to be fighting amongst themselves and they were definitely joysticking the team some. Lots of screaming and telling them exactly what to do when.
Handful of awful parents but that's true of most teams. GC parents were even worse though.

Rebels looked good this weekend against Older B teams on Day 1. But when it counted most, they fell apart. Coaches too busy jawing with Refs and they used the same kids over and over in the final. That may work against weak B teams but not good ones. If they go into WSYL with that same mindset & gameplan they come home winless... print it.

The parents were fine. We spoke to a Mom who told us "They never win" The honesty was brutally refreshing but odd. Another dad was pretty cool. Didn't say much. Every team has a few screwballs tho

Same as Laxachusetts every grade year - they're so old they dominate until everyone else hits puberty and then they're middle of the pack after that.

Best of luck Rebels and Regulators and to all the teams in the tournament. Looking forward to watching all these boys play great lacrosse in a very challenging time.

The entire landscape changes for players next year. Its all showcased events, individuals over team and clubs promoting their own brand. if you think the parents are cut-throat now just wait.

Cynical, but true. Clubs will promote their brand anyway they can, it’s a business. Most of these clubs care about a few kids.
