Spalding sends a message to the MIAA today. Gonna be ugly. Word is that Culver played everyone and Spalding stayed with starters - and Culver still destroyed Spalding. Same thing happened at NHSLS. Spalding only plays a few subs

12-9 Bullis. 4-4 at half then Bullis went on a 4-0 run and took it from there. Good game to watch as there were a lot of D1 players on the field. Bulls has no fogo, so they had the ball a ton on offense. Spalding has decent attack, but D for Bullis was long and athletic as they have a bunch of DCE 21 kids. Spalding D was just ok. Mid-pack MIAA team in the end.

Once Daddy Lids kid and faux National Champion Brian Kelly’s kids are gone - all the hype will die down. This isn’t about the school, the program, etc. - it’s about promoting their kids. Cottle only cares because he is on both their [ChillLaxin].
Spalding is soft. It’s their nature. They can’t help it.

Mid-pack MIAA team in the end. Very early in the pre-season. Once the early film is out (first MIAA games) on the teams, only those without gaping weaknesses will make the semis. Its all about depth, balance and no gaping holes. A bad FOGO or keeper can doom you. So can a really bad group of SSDMs who can't defend or clear the ball. A disruptive LSM or better yet a pair of them plus two stud SSDMs can make an average close D look great. Coaching can disguise the gaping holes but the smart coaches can probe and find Achille's heel. The whole is greater than the sum of parts.

Even more helpful would be an explanation of why an elderly coach from another era of lacrosse is tweeting out scrimmage scores for a random high school team. Does he have a grandchild on the team? Seems very odd.

The final score was 13-9. All the boys were there (Cottle, Ripley, Kelly)...didn't seem too happy with their investment...

How can a MIAA haVe 3 scrimmage games on schedule before the season actually starts? While you have been watching the calendar, they have been hitting the wall! some teams have been having "senior" or "captains" practices outside of school for the past month. Ripley wasn't an official coach until just recently so he has been able to run practices without violating any rules. Nice. I bet this will give the Cavs the edge they need to get past Broadneck this season. I heard that Spalding bought some of the best players from Brodneck also.

Not sure why any school would want a dad coach unless they were part of the faculty/administration at the school and had already been in that coaching position. It’s a recipe for disaster. Calvert Hall, St Mary's, and McDonogh all have Dad's coaching. The CHC and SM dad coaches are alumni of the schools and both were coaching at their schools well before their own sons were in the program. These guys were also the two head coaches in the most recent A conference championship game. Very different situation than the Misfit Toy Circus down at New Cut. Even with coaches having been in place for a while, it can still be hairy putting you son on the team or playing them over other kids. Look at Tierney at Princeton and Broc at St. Paul.

Down year for STM? Their poles are committed to Maryland, Maryland, Hopkins and Georgetown. Goalie to Maryland too. Still got to win faceoffs and score Not as many elite fogos in the A conference as in years past. Sleep on STM if you want. Gonna beat Spalding by 6. At least 6. Hilarious. This is Spalding's year. Spalding takes StM this year by 4-5. Heard it here first. We also heard it here first that Spalding would be great in previous years. Those predictions were spot on lol. STM actually has good coaches and talent, but Spalding has neither. STM’s defense is gonna take Spalding’s collection of MIAA A misfit toys to school. STM also recruited at least 3 other D1 kids from other schools for the season.

Is it true that Whitty left the head coaching position after he saw the talent that St. Paul's had? They had to get him out of a teaching position because he was so terrible and parents complained. His family has donated too much to St. Pauls for them to fire him outright. How badly is St. Paul's regretting firing Coach Broc? Zero, ,Program was going nowhere his last many years. His stale offense was getting nothing along with a D that couldnt stop anyone. Broc has Towson in a position where they could beat St. Pauls this year. No doubt.

Saint Paul’s is not looking great this year, but Towson just doesn’t have the talent yet Yet? Are they planning an out of state recruiting drive? Remote learning with promise of eventually getting back into the trailers is a big draw for the talent.

Towson is only using "on age" kids that grew up within a couple miles of the school - the way high school sports should be played.

Just the way it is. MD has an attackman that is 24/25

Yes that is the rule, which is generally followed by having many one year holdbacks, but there have been 2 year holdbacks occasionally with no issues. There are multiple High Schools with prefirst then PG players,,,which makes them Two years older....College another story, holdback in HS, PG, Red shirt and you are 3 years off the bat in Freshman year.

In the MIAA it has only to do with age. You can be held back 5 times prior to starting HS as long as you don’t turn 19 until the beginning of school. Any “story” other than that is urban legend.

Definetly not an “Urban Legend” I work in athletics in the MIAA and we have DQ’d some transfers in multiple sports because they are overage and end up playing against them that season. When you enroll, at least in the two schools I have worked in parents supply the birthdate of the child. No ID or birth certificate is required. You can put any age you want when you enroll. Proof of age is NOT sent to the MIAA. You are just certifying that they are eligible.

What was the school that played with DQs?

What was the school that played with DQs? A lot of people do it across many sports. Some get waivers too. There was a high profile lacrosse player awhile back whose school petitioned that he was born a month early and if he hadn’t been premature he would have been 18, not 19 when school started. He won. Now he was a high academic kid who reclassed after 8th grade too making the original defense silly. Don’t spend time wondering how they make the sausage, just enjoy it

You post yours. I guess I will have to go to sleep at night knowing somebody doesn't believe me. Ask anybody that works in athletics for an MIAA school. The examples I gave aren't accusations because I saw the evidence first hand(as well as plenty of others I never mentioned) There are players out there who I have heard are too old but I am not mentioning them because I don't know first hand. Even at my school, we had a 19 year exchange student that would turn 20 during the season. The kid had never played the sport in his life. We knew there would not be a competitive advantage having him. We also had championship aspirations in the sport so we didn't want to take any chances. We petitioned the MIAA and it was approved. You would be shocked how many 19s playing that actually have been approved, not even talking about ones who are "cheating" Just save an Adderal prescription from Elementary or Middle School and you are golden
