Chaminade would win. Still hard to match up a private vs public school. It's not fair. Chaminade is like an allstar team where public school you have to play what goes through the system.

Agree the 20 minute games were too short and the teams were not balanced or equal by each position, one team had 2 goalies another had 4?? Also think could improve on how the team were divided up. The other issue was some boys spent Saturday winning a NY State Championship (Congratulations)and had to miss the first day, then they show up on Sunday, The tryout should be held after States are over.

It's a shame that Chaminade and St A's can't participate in the State HS tournament with the publics. The last game between Chaminade and St A's seems like ancient history while this great tournament continues on. I believe they do mix public and private in Jersey for a "true" state champion. How awesome would that be for the New [lacrosse] State tourney? One can only hope one day. Private schools can choose their players, offer scholarships, not quite the same as public Public schools can choose their players or at least players can choose the school. Just ask Ward Melville, their top player is from outside the district. He goes to school there but it is not the school that he should attend based on where he resides. I

Then how did they lose to Yorktown? Had they played WM for a "true NYS Championship" it would not have gone well for the Flyers... Not this year.

Somewhat surprisingly, public schools have won it the last 7 years running despite the fact that Delbarton, Don Bosco, Bergen Catholic, etc. participate. Ridge won it this year, Bridgewater the two years prior, Summit the two years prior to that (and have gone 106-7 over last 5 years), etc. Great way to crown one overall winner.

Didn't the Hill Academy destroy Chaminade in an exhibition game this year? Chaminade is good but totally overrated. Far from the best team in NY (certainly not the best on LI), and probably would not do that well against the top MD area teams either.

UA tryouts were well run and lots of great action. For once, it was nice to just sit back and enjoy watching the games and the boys play without having to worry about scores, what teams you were playing next, playoffs, etc. The boys on his team did a great job bonding and dividing up the playing time themselves. By the end of day one, they were calling each other's names on the field instead of just pinnie numbers. Overall, a great group of young men on the field from all the teams. We will definately do this again next year.
I disagree - total waste of time. I thought it was nothing but a huge money grab. Literally hundreds of kids of all different abilities - many looking like non-starters on JV. This really should be invite only or a two step process where there are tryouts to make the real tryout. Like the Nassau/Suffolk showcase. There were way too many kids on each team for such short games on only two fields. Coaches on the sidelines were basically gone midway through the night. At best some kids were seeing 1/2 or less than half a game depending on how many at each position. My son played on a team with 7 attack - tell me how that works equitabily in 20 minutes of time. Unless they change the format and make it more exclusive, my son won't do it again or we'll go to another region like New England. Maybe my son got lucky with his team assignment. However, he had a great time with the other boys and feels he got a real self evaluation of his talent level based on who he was playing with and against. I do agree that some of the talent level may not have been up to snuff since it was an open tryout but that's what happens at these things. As for the Nassau/Suffolk tryouts, many boys do not get the chance since coaches are doing favors and some kids who should be there are not. Both systems are flawed but fixable.

Newsday's All-Long Island Boys Lacrosse Team
TIM ROTANZ, Long Island Player of the Year Shoreham-Wading River, Attack, Sr. With a Long Island-best 141 points this season, Rotanz finished a magnificent five-year varsity career with 450 points (245 goals), third best in Long Island history. He'll take his talents to Maryland, which will find a place in its lineup for his hard shot, accurate passes and ability to dodge in traffic. Rotanz is a three-time Newsday All-Long Island choice and also a three-time All-American
JUSTIN GUTERDING, Nassau Player of the Year Garden City, Attack, Sr. Guterding constantly drew the toughest defenders but still scored 56 goals and added 46 assists to finish No. 5 on Long Island in points (92). He had 41 points (22 goals) during Garden City's run to a second consecutive Class B state championship in seven playoff games.

My son and I met him and Coach Rotanz at Pridefest last week at the Powershaft tent, and they could not have been nicer. So humble, I didn't even know who we were talking to until 5 minutes into our conversation, when Tom handed me his card. I recognized the name immediately. It isn't every day you get to meet the best player in the US and a coaching giant. They made a point of knowing my son's name and where we were from, which made my son's day. Well deserved Tim!

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Do you understand the level of talent that Chaminade had in 2013. They had 25 D1 players and 3 All-American's and were ranked #2 in the countey. Come back when you have your facts straight.
