Which goalies in the conference did he outplay last year? Gave up a lot of goals.... he was an 8th grader that won 9 games and lost 8. two losses were in 2OT to Syosset and Hicksville and two to Massapequa. Who, yes may of let up a lot of goals but his save percentage was high based on the number of shots he faced. goals are not always a reflection of the goalie. they also fall upon the defense. all conference as an 8th grader aint bad.

Hill Academy 10 - Calvert Hall 7 (on Thurs in MD)
Believe that is the third victory in a week by Hill Academy over a top 20 nationally ranked team. Not a bad way to start the season.

His coach picks his all conference players. Doubt other coaches would have voted for him based on the amount of goals he gave up regardless how bad you say his defense was in front of him. You do need to credit the wins of the team to having argueably one the best players in the tri-state area on the team as picked by MSG varsity.

Hey douch bag, ports goalie had a great game and a great start to the season letting up just 2 goals yesterday against locust valley and about 15 saves. You must be a jealous dad of a goalie who sits most of the season.

Sad, when Massapequa boys are young 3rd grade on their lax program is great, very competitive teams. When these boys grow up the better ones for the most part go to Chaminade and St. Anthony's. This leaves Massapequas lax team with the less athletic kids in H.S. so they are not competitive. It's sad. you do not see this in West Islip and Ward Melville.

nothing. once coach gives a verbal commitment, the minimum academic requirements are established. the student athlete is not required to take the SATs necessarily.
however, if they fall way short of academic standards, the early committed player may be required to attend a year of prep school...

Question, what happens to the say 2015 kid who verbally commits to a college and then does not do well on his/hers SAT exam? The kid still has to go threw the admissions process - the application will be supported by the coach and that is how kids get into schools that they might normally not get into but a condition that the coach will make very clear to the player is that they still have to be accepted by admissions. I have always thought that this is the one out that a coach might have on a commit he may lose interest in, the coach can not support the admissions application as strongly as was expected and ooooops sorry you didn't get in.

I think only in very rare circumstances for an elite recruit would the SAT/ACT be waived. The norm is commit, take the tests, go thorugh admissions (with coaching staff support) and be accepted. Some may get into a "reach" school but I highly doubt an Ivy is accepting a "C" student with poor or no SAT scores unless he fits some other demographic. Plenty of smart quality lax players out there, no need to dumb it down.

If the verbal commit is just that "verbal" it is not really binding correct? Either party can decide, in the case of the early commits for example, that needs changed and the program doesn't fit the athlete or the athlete doesn't fit the program.

I have always thought that this is the one out that a coach might have on a commit he may lose interest in, the coach can not support the admissions application as strongly as was expected and ooooops sorry you didn't get in. Ultimately, NCAA eligibility must be met first and foremost. This is the role of the NCAA Clearinghouse. Second, the student-athlete must meet the admission standards of the university or have a waiver instituted. Such waivers can come via a coach's exemption (also known as a golden ticket) or via other tools at the admissions department's discretion. Remember that accepting "below par" students is not the end of the NCAA compliance debate as both academic progress rates and overall academic GPA are examined by the NCAA during compliance audits. Coaches that consistently bring in a below average player runs two major risks. The first is that academic progress, particularly for non-revenue generating sports, can come under question. Second and more importantly, the student-athlete runs the risk of being academically overwhelmed by the classroom requirements. In the case of an institution such as Duke, you would expect stringent regulations to be upheld on Board Scores for admission.

Comments or experiences? Verbal commitments are non-binding from the NCAA and University's perspectives. That said, please let us put the following caveats on the table. - Coach's Perspective : Only under the most pressing circumstances will a coach rescind a verbal offer - there is usually cause associated with a withdrawn offer. The causes can be academic, personal, ethics, or compliance based. A college coach will NOT want to rescind an offer (opening a recruiting gap) and more importantly does not want to gain a reputation for rescinding offers as that impacts future recruiting.
- Student Perspective : Student-athletes can more easily change their minds related to a verbal offer since the process is only usually run once is an academic lifetime.
- NCAA Perspective : Binding offers are associated with National Letters of Intent, effectively the contract constructed between a student-athlete and the target institution. Once the NLI is completed, there are binding NCAA rules and regulations regarding a student-athlete even talking to another institution regarding potential transfers. (Regulations covering a student-athlete release are available on the NCAA web site.)

however, if they fall way short of academic standards, the early committed player may be required to attend a year of prep school... This post is highly misleading to our BOTC Community and largely incorrect. A coach's verbal agreement can and will take place without prior academic application reviews. Further, with freshmen and sophomores now verbally commiting, such verbals are clearly being made without a full set of Board Scores or a complete evaluation of High School Scholastic performance by the NCAA Clearinghouse. The assertion that a year of prep school (also known as thirteenth grade at institutions such as Deerfield and similar) cures all academic ills is incorrect.
