I know this is a lacrosse forum but can we take a few moments and hope that the CHC basketball coach gets fired.....This guy is horrible and killing the program... Athletic director needs to wake up and save the program...embarrassing...just saying really horrible...5 win season and loosing to MIAA B teams... Really???? Cutting kids mid season? Pump up your lax team because your basketball and football teams succcccck and at this point thats all you have so you go with all of the shout outs....Other MIAA schools are killing it with sports that really matter with scholarship money..

i feel your pain CH dad but at least your lax team performs. I’m a SP dad and alum. School is putting sports on the back burner and it shows throughout the athletic department. Football, soccer, basketball, baseball are a joke. Let’s hope the lax program stays relevant!!!

Tryouts at the top MIAA High School level are a tough lesson for many players. Short of being some outlier or starter, If you have no "juice" ( Club, personal relationship, family) , expect to leave the field disappointed. The starters are already in the mind of the coach, most players are going after next years spots or backups this year. The level is not that different between players once you get pass the few stand out best players. You better have some " juice" or get really lucky.

Politics is still played in many MIAA teams and especially at tryouts. That is a fact. Most backups are only so athletic. Skilled for sure, but lets get real, these arent football players who run like gazelles and look like some Thoroughbred racehorse.

This rings true for the UA tryouts too! Sad but true...

Some of the best lax players are standouts on their football teams as well you dolt.

You're now in the same club with that other BadPerson-nozzle that slimes around the boards spouting that nonsense that Lacrosse is for kids that aren't good enough athletes to play Football or Basketball. Absolutely stunning how ignorant you are!!!!

Didnt mean to get you all worked up Francis. Relax. Maybe next time read a little bit slower. Was talking about Backups and subs and gazelles. Even Football backups arent all gazelles.

There are some athletic D1 lacrosse college guys out there. DO you think more than 10-25% could make any Top or even a decent D1 Football program?

There are "some" athletic D1 Lacrosse guys? If you post on a lacrosse board you should try to actually watch the sport. To play for a D1 team requires a tremendous focus. By definition they are ALL athletes. How in the world would I know if they could make the football team? Could they make the golf team or the baseball team? That is just a silly question. Could the football players make the lacrosse team? If they do not play lacrosse then 0.0% of the football team will make the lacrosse team. They are just different sports. Why compare? However, it is worth noting that the best player last season in D1 is having a good season playing B10 Basketball.

He is averaging 10 a game for a pretty bad team. Let's not make it more than what it is.

4 years away from competitive hoops. Steps in as a productive player on a big 10 team. Remarkable.

Man,,the more you write about athleticism the more you dig yourself a bigger hole. That is what we started off about. Now you have gone on about making the golf team?? What?? Take any top D! football player and start him with lacrosse at an early age and he runs circles around 90% of D1 lacrosse players . Bernhart from MD is a prime example. Take any top D1 lacrosse player and start him with Football at an early age and very few will make a D1 football team let alone play. Common sense. Doesnt mean anything except that Football requires the player to be the most athletic ( as defined by humans) ? Thats all .

It really has hit a nerve with you. Did some stud football player steal your girlfriend back in HS ?

Yes, but he cannot start at left tackle for LSU so he is not a real athlete.

Interesting that Bullis is #2 and Landon and GTP are way off in the other category. There will be very close games between these three teams

Terrible thing to say and likely not the case. Most seniors don't get cut. Freshman and Sophomores should always have a home on Door_Open_And/S or JV. Juniors it's tough. Some schools don't let juniors play on JV but fortunately most do. I would say that most MIAA schools aren't too big and have room for everyone. Parents will help their kids navigate the world as they get older and disappointment is everywhere. But using MIAA and our lacrosse programs to mock parents and kids reveals more about your shallowness than the potential shortage of opportunity. Its much harder to "build-up" than "tear down" and clearly you like the easy and anonymous way...

Agree most MIAA schools will have room for Juniors and Seniors on the varsity team with the exception of CHC and Loyola (2 largest schools in MIAA and nearly twice the size of other schools).

Someone needs decaf Btw the guys is right; these schools over recruit and bring in 4,5,6 goalies for instance for a given class with promises of playing time. It’s the politics of the game that parents of freshmen are just starting to see.

Just because a kid is admitted to a given school and plays lacrosse doesn't mean he's recruited to play lacrosse. If your kid goes to one of the MIAA A schools you knew it would be a grind and a long shot for most to get on the field as a varsity player. At least you should have known. Very good players never get much PT and good players sometimes get cut, especially at bigger schools like CHC and LB. Kids who get cut will find another sport like golf, rugby, track, tennis. I bet most of the practice players at Calvert Hall take a great deal of pride for being part their championship teams, as they should. Good luck to all

Its been said many times the Scout Teams at CH are critical to the success of the program and many of those players go on to D2 and D3 stardom. When viewing a practice you can see that those kids are pushing the 1st team like their playing for something, which they are.....getting off the Scout Team!

Fake news.... Loyola, CHC, Spalding, MSJ all have about the same amount of students + - a few hundred students.....Non catholic schools, BL, Mcdonough, Gilman a bit smaller

Spalding has landed 10 consecutive recruiting classes of elite players AND THEIR COACH IS A MLL PLAYER!

Any top 25 that does not include the Cavs is a joke. Wake up haters and snowflakes and HIT THE WALL.

Lets not forget that until recently, CH winning 3 in a row, there were 7 different champions in 7 years. Whats changed over the past few years? Gilman, StP, BL, Loyola, StM, Severn, MSJ, JC, Spalding all 9 have new coaches and staffs. Calvert Hall and McD, same coaches for 15+ years refining their systems and skills. Its not a coincidence. Hilgartner and Kelly are the best in the league. So are their teams. The other MIAA programs -not teams- will build and catch up (if they want to). But it will take time and recruiting. If I were a student wanting to play competitive lacrosse for a winner in HS, I would want McD or CH. They win their players are the best, and are proven year after year.

I suspect even 5 years ago there was no where near the competition for Varsity there is now at MIAA schools.

Club lacrosse has exploded in last 5-6 years to produce many more very good talented players then years pass.

Frankly just 6 years ago all you had was Crabs as King of the Mountain and Breakers and Rock occasionally producing talent in entire Baltimore area. And even then, it was occasionally tournament in summer and then on to the beach.

And this same club explosion is true in many other areas.

Good Luck in making your team as it will not be an easy chore at most top High Schools now.

For CH, it's not an issue of not making varsity. It's the obvious fact (obvious to anyone who has seen a CH game in the last few years) that 50+ kids dress for games and, at most, 20 see the field. So, yeah, it's a college program at the High School level.

But hey, the kids get to play scout team against the starters in practice, so...

Wow. Articulate, logical and absolutely true - but it's not what the trolls and haters on this board want to accept. It's so much easier to cushion the simple mind and fragile ego with lies and fabricated BS.

In the interest of accuracy:

"Spencer leads the Wildcats in assists (3.8) and steals (0.8) per game, ranks second in points (10.6) and minutes (29.0) and is third in rebounds (3.3)."

Pretty darn good - even at Northwestern.
