Bay Shore is certainly one of the teams to watch as we head into the heart of the season. Expectations will start increasing as we head towards this year's playoffs. Good luck to their program.

Sheesh, look how lopsided some of those scores are! I'm shaking my head at how SectionXI runs the lacrosse side of things.

BOTC Editorial : Seriously Powderfinger, we are amazed that a twenty goal win would ever appear on the results board in a High School Varsity game.

While Section XI scheduling has proven to be a complete failure, how does any program not respect the game and their opponents? We both know that the unspoken rule from Bayport to Plainedge was six goals in soccer.

What is the limit in lacrosse? When the defense walks off the field? When the keeper vacates the cage?

Odd part here is you will have YJ parents backing up the shannigans going on at northport. Post any comeback you need to help you sleep at night, but there is no justification for the shear lack of sportsmanship, it's what she teaches.

Time for Section XI to create a developmental league; just as the PSAL in the city has one. The teams within that league will play against each other only; be ineligible for Sec XI playoffs and will be subject to an annual review of the program.

And for the less than tactful coach; who stated to his team: " you played like Copiague;" after a loss today; totally disgusting.

Highlights

Smithtown East outscored Brentwood 12-0 in the second half after going to the break with the score at 6-3.

Sacred Heart 12, Pingry (NJ) 11: Sarah Galzerano (three goals, 1 assist) scored the game winning goal with 2:30 remaining to break an 11-11 tie and Erin Pfail added four goals to lead Sacred Heart (4-4) in non-league.

Does anyone know how many regular season games Nassau girls are allowed to play?

According to the New [lacrosse] State Public High School Athletics Association (NYSPHSAA), a season may consist of 16 games. A team is required to have 8 practices before the first scrimmage and ten practices prior to the first seasonal game.

A coach got suspended then replaced a few years ago for scheduling one too many. Blame should be on AD as well.

Why would you post individual point totals as most of those goals and assists are in meaningless games against inferior opponents. Why not list groundballs, draw controls and caused turnovers etc... ?

(Translation : You can only post the statistics that are available and maintained. There is not a High School in the world the records their ground ball counts, much less reports it to media outlets.)

The point was why bother publishing meaningless statistics? No girl would get 8 goals /6 assists in a game between Bayshore vs Northport. Most of these stats happen in very lopsided games.

It looks like no undefeated team in either league in Suffolk has a girl among the points leaders. Looks like balanced scoring works!

Cage ,too funny you post something which most would look at like a nice thing to recogognize some of the girls who are off to a quick start and you will always have people come on and try to tear them down. To the girls on the list keep up the good work and dont let the negative people out there get you down.

I always wondered why a true defender does not receive any post season accolades unless they happen to score a bunch of goals. Do you think that GB's and CTO's be recorded at the hs level?

High School coaches, field staff, and sectional representatives have absolutely no interest in recording defensive (non-goalie) saves, ground balls, and similar. Both Varsity Soccer and Lacrosse suffer from the lack of defensive statistical recognition.

BOTC thinks that this defensive statistics void is due to the continuing action after a defenseman makes a play. When a keeper makes a save, the transition game goes into effect and a scorekeeper can log that save. When a goal is scored, the players reset at the center of the field. There are natural breaks in the running-clock action.

However, defensive transitions typically do not afford that break in the action. That might explain why defensive stats are just not logged.

As comfort to the parents of defensively positioned student-athletes, we can only offer the old sports axiom : "Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships".

Try telling them to play nice. they are old enough to understand what running up the score is. Like someone else said, the best teams on the island have very few if any girls on this list

anyone have thoughts on how the new nassau powerhouse division is working out lumping some of the biggest schools against some of the smallest?

From our perspective (non-coach, non-parent, non-player), the Power Conference concept has been a complete success.

If you look at the overall records, every team is .500 or above playing outside of these Top 10 Nassau County teams.

That is a clear indication that the competition inside the conference really has some of the strongest talent playing one another.

BOTC would be interested in hearing from parents with players participating in the Power Conference for their perspectives.

With regards to points leaders, how come no one from Garden City, Manhasset,BAyshore, SWR , Sayville is represented on this list? Plenty of great players on those teams.

And as a parent of a defensively positioned student athlete....it is hard to explain to her when a middie gets the accolades over her. Fortunately for my daughter; her team keep track of ground balls.

It's cold comfort when you see your attack/midfield teammates get post-season awards and your skilled defender gets nothing. Not to mention she doesn't get to add that stuff to her athletic resume either. Kudos from the coaches are nice but some official recognition would be welcome, too.

FWIW, I'm trying to track my kid's GBs, CTO's, etc. myself now, just so we have something to put on her resume. Thing is, I don't have the knack.
I forget I'm doing it, or plays happen in a crush of girls so I can't see what happened, and so forth. Asking my player after the game has not proved useful because she's not tracking that stuff in her head, she's busy defending.

You are totally wrong. You should research some of the games if you are that threatened.

I think east islip might have a problem with that statement.

This is great lacrosse. The girls become better players. Most games are close, some teams are very strong this season some are not as strong as last year but the level of play has been good. It works that way with coaches also. PLEASE DO NOT GO BACK TO SCHOOL SIZE SO COACHES CAN GET EASY WINS!!!

In light of our discussion earlier today about defensive recognition, we applaud today's Shoreham-Wading River write-up with coverage of ground balls and forced turnouts. Shannon Rosati finished with three goals for Shoreham-Wading River (5-1) in its Division II win. Meredith Bushell had four groundballs and six forced turnovers.

I've seen in the past blurbs that SWR gives credit to the defenders, so credit to them for doing that. It's a good thing.

Wow look !! East Islip beat Patchogue.. Same girls load up on points and assists against an inferior team. NIce going !!!

Look at Newsdays stats today for the games that are posted so far. Two girls each scored 9 goals, three scored 7, four scored 6, and two scored 5. One game had a 3 goal differential, but two had a 9 goal diff, one had a 10 goal diff and there's EI with a 13 goal differential. Someone explain how that is necessary.

I was a spectator at the SWR vs ESM game this afternoon, what a disgrace to listen to the ESM parents verbally criticizing their own childrens teammates. Its a wonder the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Huntington 16, Kings Park 15 (2OT): Tied at 15 with about 2:00 left in the second overtime, Alyssa Amorison scored off an assist from Alexis Thompson to give Huntington (5-1) the win in Division II. Down 15-14 with :43 left in the first overtime, Rachel Slagle scored to tie the game for Kings Park. Huntington was down 12-11 with :20 left in regulation until Hannah Burnett scored to force overtime. Amorison finished with two goals and five assists, Thompson had four goals and six assists, and Burnett had six goals and two assists.

That is Long Island lacrosse for you. Even worse when you have a parent who talks trash about the more experienced kids....calling them ballhogs...when his child doesn't get the ball.

I was at the swr esm game and thought it was a great game. It was 6-6 for a while with no scoring from either side until the last ten minutes of game when swr scored while esm was down a player. Defense was great on both sides. To whomever posted about parents complaining about other players-is this really shocking? happens all the time at every sideline, you probably were in within earshot of an overly boisterous parent as opposed to the mutterings usually under parent's breath. Either way, in light of the boston tragedy, who cares? there are some really wonderful young ladies on the esm team so your comment about apple not falling far from the tree is really uncalled for. great job to all the young ladies that were fortunate to play this wonderful sport today.

Shocking? No; but still inappropriate anyway. If one feels the need to speak in that fashion, save it for home. It gets back to the kids and coach and can affect team cohesion. By the way; speak of someone else's child as you would like your's to be spoken of. It's a matter of respect; an element that is indeed lacking.

As for the matter of respect; coaches can be the biggest violators. Coaches expect and demand total and absolute respect of both players and their parents; yet refuse to reciprocate. A coach does not want a parent to overrule his/her coaching; but will insist that parents "dont' know anything." Or even worse; allow one of his captains to curse ad nauseam during games, at him and his assistant and at players. And to top it off; no action is taken as respective coach is fearful of retribution from the captain's parent. This is not how you command respect at all. Coaches set the tone and climate of a program.
