This thread will be used to discuss the Spring 2013 Nassau PAL League program, games, schedules, and results.

The Nassau PAL Calendar has the following dates of note :

March 16th : Final Schedules Completed
April 6th/7th : First Game
April 13th/14th : Second Game
April 20th/21st : Third Game
April 27th/28th : Fourth Game
May 4th/5th : Fifth Game
May 11th/12th : Sixth Game
May 18th/19th : Seventh Game
June 1st/2nd : Eighth Game
June 8th/9th : PAL Festival

I have a question my daughter plays 5th grade PAL , how do you know who's in your division? Is it listed anywhere like soccer D1 and the teams , D2 and so on.just curious

When a town has two teans at the 5th grade level does PAL require that they be designated as A and B? We are playing in D1 with a split team, 12 can pass and catch and 11 are borderline developmental.

Divisions are used in the age groups. If you want to take a look at last year's 2012 schedules, visit this link for the details as this might help answer your questions. The format looks very much like the [lacrosse] Soccer Divisions with which you are familiar. The difference will be that we are unaware whether any results are ever recorded to rank the teams from season to season.

Not really. There are kids who are very talented , playing with and against kids who can't catch and throw. Two totally different sides of the spectrum. Neither benefits.

Here is a little info on the NCPAL structure.
Boys: 5th & 6th grade are allowed to "stack" a team . that team is to play in the "A" division. This is done by a small percentage of towns that are looking for that level of competition. All other teams in PAL must have all of there teams entered as balanced teams. These teams are placed in D1,2,3,4....... sometimes you will get a group of 3rd & 4th graders that gell and work hard on a specific "balanced " team this team will work its way into D1 with a strong core and handfull of ball droppers. Other teams will stay with 3 or 4 talented players and the rest only pick up there sticks when the team practices. This team will stay in D2 or 3 depending on how good the 3 or 4 studs are. Now that is how a town team is supposed to be set up. We all know there are towns that have tryouts and put there A team in D1 and all of the ball droppers in D 3 or 4 ..............

Girls: All NCPAL Girls teams at any age group a supposed to be balanced as described in the text above.......we all know that isn't the case with some towns but thats life....

Girls divisions in Nassau are done by the program Directors after talking with the Coaches. All you could hope everyone is honest and the teams are placed in divisions that allow them to develop not just go undefeated

The "Divisions" are not similar to soccer in the PAL because PAL is not a championship program. There is no prize at the end of the season other than the girls learning and playing with the other girls within their community (In short, it is an intramural program). The "divisions" are purposely not public (unlike soccer) because of the philosophy of the PAL. The directors place the teams in divisions based on 2 factors: 1- What was the team's record the previous year 2- Is the team basically the same make up of kids from the previous year
The reason for the "divisions" is to allow teams to play competitively.. NOT to win all of their games OR to be crushed by stronger teams.

The "Rule" (aside from boy's 5 and 6) is that if there are two town teams they SHOULD BE AS CLOSE TO EQUAL ABILITY AS POSSIBLE. (Unfortunately, you are right, not every community follows this). Of course, one or two players can make one team a bit stronger or weaker. This is why PAL asks that if there are two teams they be placed in adjacent divisions (A and B, or B and C, or C and D). An "A" division team and a "C" division team clearly means that one team is stacked.

PAL is about Learning , If you want more that is why there is Travel. If you do both accept PAL for what it is a good way for boys and girls to learn the game and DEVELOP

Nassau PAL never published the girls schedule in 2012 and BOTC never received a copy from any contributors last season.

As of last year, PAL allowed towns that have 2 teams in the 5th and 6th grade to split them by ability. It took them a few years too long to approve this.
This obviously is a positive sign, that this league is showing that it can evolve somewhat. The top divisions provide excellent competition in 5th and 6th grade. The lower divisions allow kids that are not as far along in their development to get to touch the ball, and play against appropriate competition.

Get a life, why? That is what they are trying to instill in thier 10 year olds. How would you like it if they said get a life and coddle your baby as long as you can.


lets see how you enjoy it when those 3 or 4 better boys who can play dont pass it to your boy or unfortunatley i hope this isnt you but if they do pass it to him you dont scream at him to catch it and later berate him in the car

There should be rosters open to change throughout the season for players to grow into teams. let all players improve to their fullest potential.

this culture of everything needs to be balanced is not fair to anyone

what is also not fair is pulling kids for outside of your school disctrict regardless if their town doesnt have a program. If a town doesnt have a program PAL should authorize the towns that should be able to mix and match and who to mix and match with. How about those teams taking boys from Suffolk PAL who just dont want to play in their towns PAL.

I heard the PAL schedules were finalized and sent out. It would be great if someone can post what they have.

Yes the full master schedules were sent out a few days ago.

The final boys schedule was sent, not the girls yet.

Any idea on when the girls schedule is supposed to be published?

Its PAL Lax not travel. The better players help the ones who are not as talented. Players who are all bad can not help each other. If you are the crazy parent who needs to get his kid to the next level, go to one of the hundreds of travel teams and get out of PAL. If you have a good PAL coach he should know this already. There are no tryouts for PAL it is there to help instruct the players.

Did Three village move from Nassau to Suffolk because of this?

3 Village has their "A" 5th grade team entered in Nassau PAL.

I would say no 8 years ago my Son played in Nassau PAL and he played a Three Village team

where can we get the actual schedule of game dates with time and locations for 6th grade boys? website just has weeks there are games, but not who plays who, where or what time.

Boys PAL coaches have there schedules they are not posted on the web site.

Girls schedules were recieved by the directors and are due back to NCPAL tonight at 10 pm tonight for corrections. the girls coaches will get them back sometime this week and they will send you your schedule. It is the same every year you will have them a little more than a week befor 4/7 opening day.

Can someone explain why it's so hard to get a schedule?

No. Not only has BOTC requested this data from the organization, but we have also put out a call to our readers to share the schedules that they have received.

PAL does not publish there schedules for the public. They will be posted on there Horizon website for coaches and directors to view. Everyone else will get the schedule from the coaches.

is this schedule for boys, girls or both??

BOTC has been told that this is the all-inclusive boys schedule. The girls schedule was still being worked from what we were told. Should any of our readers have a copy of the all-girls schedule, forward us the details and we will post them this evening.

Still no girls schedule?

BOTC will never understand why parents, coaches, and clubs continue to accept poor customer service. This is at least the third consecutive Spring where BOTC has witnessed the same lack of concern for the girls's side of the game in this league; eventually, someone has to get the hint.

Our e-mails to the Nassau PAL program (as we have it) have gone unanswered. So, if there is a parent in our audience who has a copy of the ladies schedules, please send it to us here at BOTC and we will do our best to share it with the community.

The girls schedules are not distributed to everyone . They are posted on Horizonwebref so only coaches can view them. remember PAL wants every team to be 500. They have no interest in feeding into this my town team is better than yours. PAL is a developmental league with all towns that have multiple team required to enter them balanced. If you want your kids schedule ask her coach. If you want the schedules to size up the competition get a life!

Why is it different for boys and girls?

The boys just started with Horizon this year so they still had the old paper system going as well

I can understand not posting the weekly game results on a website to avoid the trash talk that seems to occur after the fact, but what is the issue with providing a comprehensive schedule?

In my case, I just want to know when the other girls teams from our club and neighboring towns are playing so we might watch to learn or see other kids we know play. Yes, I could email the coaches of those teams/grades directly, but it's a pain for them and me.

How nice of you to care about neiboring towns .....
