It’s not really sour grapes.
Nothing lacrosse related in this mid atlantic region will ever be decided based solely on merit. When you have evaluators who have their own kids/club players/high school players on the field, you will never get a a fair outcome. Everyone knows it, everyone complains about it, everyone comes on here and cries about it, and then a week later everyone stops whining and moves on to the next unfair tryout, where the cycle starts all over again. The same dad/coach/evaluator(s) will be at every event So if you are really that upset about it, get off the merry-go-round.

Daddy/Coach evaluators is what it is...it's not going to change unless you get a director at Corrigan Sports that gets independent evaluators for this process.

Whatever. The truth is if your daughter is really talented she will have a good chance. It's a tough team to make. Check the command and highlight rosters from last two years. It's a lot of the same girls and several of them don't play for the coaches of the UA team. People complain and complain, but sometimes talent wins out. There are a ton of evaluators at the tryouts. Different evaluators each year. And yet some of these same girls make it multiple times. These are also the same girls that will commit to the top college programs but I guess you feel like the college coaches don't know what they are doing either.

Everyone is beating a dead horse. The same evaluator, plus or minus a few will always be the evaluators until their own daughters/club players graduate. Accept and move on or like the post said earlier get off the merry go round.

Stop beating a dead horse. This area will have the same dad coach evaluators, plus or minus a few until their daughters and or club players graduate, and then the cycle will start over with the younger age groups. Either accept and move on or like the previous post said get off the merry go round. Whether players got special treatment or not because of who the evaluators and coaches are, every name on that list is a strong, athletic, fast player and well deserving, whether 8th grade, JV, bench V or V.

Most of them probably read this forum, so why not congratulate them instead.

Take a look at the UA Highlight roster. Of the 23 girls, 10 play for M&D 2020 or 2021, 6 play for SW 2020 or 2021. If your daughter is good enough M&D or SW will take her. The earlier you get her there the better as those clubs do the best job developing talent. There are always girls at he bottom of the roster that are replaceable, but once you get to high school the rosters basically lock down. At tryouts they are looking for athletes with good stick skills and high lacrosse IQ. Doesn't hurt to tryout and see.

Call up MD & SW, they are always looking for new players.

OK- Girls going into grade 9 do not need to tryout for their current club teams?
Why are SW and MD and a few others holding tryouts?
Daughters club is not having tryout for her age level - grade 9. Club is demanding payment for the next year right away which doesn't give you a chance to try out or look around at others unless you want to be late on payments?
How do the coaches fill in holes on our team if not holding tryouts?

They don't. Clubs other than M&D and SW get more holes, not fill them. In 9th grade, when girls go "tryout" for M&D and SW they have already been offered a spot and the tryout is a mere formality.

Bal just got eaten up 18-9 by Conny. Great job Coach Mac putting your girls in a position to fail.

Not sure what game you were watching, but the Balt team was terrible. Middies slow, not fast enough to transition or get back on defense. It's gonna be a long weekend watching this show.

The Conny team came out firing and never stopped, and Baltimore was shell shocked. They won 90% of the draws, and the Baltimore defense failed miserably, which left the goalies high and dry. #1 on Conny could not be stopped, and beat every defender on her for the feed inside the 8m or the drive to goal herself.
Baltimore team is stacked and will regroup. The coaching staff is too good not to change the issues for the games that count.

2-2 impressive way to back into the playoffs. Such high expectations for what should be the #1 team in the country if the coaches would of chosen more wisely. You should be so proud Ann your daughter is truly a beast couldn’t be more happier for you.

I'll chirp.. I was there with the LI team.. I didn't think we would beat the CONNY team and thought we had a better chance against Baltimore.. Turns out we didnt. Congrats to the Balt girls they proved their mettle by beating CONNY when it mattered, and a more rested LI team for the title.

CONNY command team definitely had the best player. Had Baltimore not played CONNY on Thursday CONNY would have won yesterday. Mary G and Mac are too good of coaches to let one player beat them twice. They had a plan and while she still played a great game it wasn't enough.

CSE first needs to stop underclass coaches from selecting and coaching their own kid at the event. Daddyball at the actual event is even worse than the club/high school coaches who might show some bias toward their own players.

In Baltimore coaches aren’t allowed to coach the age that their child try’s it for. What are you referring to?

My daughter's team (another region, not Baltimore) had a dad coach who handled the offense and tried to run things mainly through his daughter, and unfortunately for the team she's not good enough to do that at UA level. Stronger players were played out of position, subbed out more often, and micromanaged to run plays geared toward getting his kid points. It hurt the team, although the best players still ended up being the top performers because that's what good players do. She wasn't good enough to be on the team, let alone be a key offensive player. Hopefully someone in the region will step up and prevent a repeat next year.

darn someone is salty. Just figured out this board. The Baltimore Team had no dad coaches. All 3 coaches worked with 15 evaluators to find the best team. Which I guess they did a pretty good job of. Connys best player played in same club as their coaches but I guess that’s a sore spot too. The girls that had the best tryouts made the team. Try saying that 1 time.

Happens at Boys UA too. No matter how hard CS and UA try to spin it as independent evaluations it isnt. They do get many of top players but some are left out due to not knowing the coach...Frankly I think it is worst in non hotbed areas
where knowing coach has a bigger impact due to less impact players, Balt along with other hotbed areas can leave off a few top players and still field a great team. ................. Dont expect things to change,

Not sure why you’d think SPSG is going to be a top team. Basically a 500 team last year in the regular season and got a easy draw in the playoffs.

I think SPSG , MCD and NDP will all be very good . B Mawr will be good as well.

Where was a daddy coach that ruined it for others? I agree UA and Corrigan need to end this stuff.

We hear that every year, only to see that they are the same ole bridesmaid, come the season play. I guess if you say it enough, that when it does happen, you all can say "I told you so".

Who are they adding to make a difference?

GCS lost some of their top talent when the seniors graduated. It will be a rebuilding year with such a young squad, but I think they will be able to give some of those you mentioned a good game.

GCS is a young team with only a handful of JR's and SR's. Expect them to fall back a bit this year. If all the sophomores and freshmen they have develop they should be a very good team in 21 & 22.

So who will be the top teams? Obviously McDonogh will start out that way.

SPSG is a .500 team, but very good coaching. Not sure they have anyone coming in to add value. But very good coaching. Will NDP be that good? They lost some power players and the JV is not that good.

Bryn Mar added some very good young goalies, but its Bryn Mar. Soooo....nope.

GCS is still the little sister trying to be cool.

Spalding loses a good amount of seniors, but returns some heavy hitters. Probably the best farm system JV team out there. They come in as national top25 team. Overreach perhaps? Coaching is suspect at times. Any young talent entering that program?

Will any others step up? Severn School...umm, No. St. Marys...has players. Gerstell...on the move for players but not there yet.

Well...its a pretty top heavy league. Its always 4-5 team division. So being in that tier means you have something going for you all. Going to the semis every year is a fine feather for that hat. But what have they done against the top tier teams aligned with them?

They do not really compete with McDonogh, which is whom they are trying to emulate. So until that starts to happen, they will remain the little sister trying to be cool.

Be serious...GCS recruits heavily. That is no secret and they are not alone. They have the coaching ties and the name sake to throw around, but yet they just can not get over the hump. I am certain they will someday, but not there yet and not there this year.

Like the above posters said, 28-9 since moving to A in 2017, and have appeared in the semis all 3 years. Strong 2023 and 2022 classes will make them a favorite next year. They may or may not struggle this year, it will be interesting to see. Losing seniors every year doesn’t seem to be an issue, they still make the semis.

GCS is still the little sister trying to be cool...?...All they have done since moving to the A in 2017 is go 28-9 and make the semi final all 3 years. I'm pretty sure they're cooler than you.

I am certain they will someday, but not there yet and not there this year.

spoken like a true McD parent or player. Guessing your McD kid rides the bench or is a jv player
