Actually CR was a class act and took them all out for second half. Her star scored all that in the first half looser. They only scored three goals in the second half. That game could have 40-0

Actually she only came out of the game for maybe 10 minutes total. Very little subbing.

I would think that Bayshore is the team to beat. More and more parity every year in Section XI. For some of the stronger teams it is becoming more like "any given Sunday." I wouldn't count out WM, WB or WI either. Plus, Northport has a history of choking and doesn't really play as a team.

Now that is refreshing, it is early and yes it is "Any Given Sunday" . Sit back and watch them play, one particular lose or win will not make a season until Mid May.

It will be very interesting to see how the teams are doing by 4/27 and who will be rooting for whom (especially those they just rooted against the week prior).

Good luck ladies. Remember win with grace and if you lose, lose with class.

Has anyone seen Bay Shore play this year yet? I have not seen any box scores. West Islip had a nice win over Rocky Point so they must be improved.

That statment might be premature because they have not played (Their 1st game against smithtown canceled - but I am quite sure you knew that).

But that scrimmage a few weeks ago was a good indication of how good they are.

How do you define "parity"? Early in the season where non-league action or local towns play preseason league matches, you will see blowouts more often than you will during the regular season. That said, the move to an "ability based league" has emerged on the Nassau (Section VIII) side with the so-called Powerhouse Division.

Girls who run this world: Suffolk lacrosse players of the week

Cortney Fortunato, Northport - Well, Cort-Fort wasted exactly zero time. The All-American had seven goals and two assists over Sachem North.

Hailey Wagner, Bellport - Wagner, only a sophomore, had seven goals and one assist, in a win over Hampton Bays. Shoutout to teammate Courtney Pabst, also a sophomore, who had five and three.

Shelby Fredericks, Babylon - It's entirely possible Fredericks plays lacrosse in God mode. The junior had six goals and six assists over East Hampton.

Nicolette Tortorici, Deer Park - Six goals, four assists...all in a day's work against Islip.

Shannon Abernethy, Rocky Point - There is simply not enough goalie love in the world. Abernethy stopped 15 shots against Floyd...and only three. (Insert Pink Floyd "The Wall" joke here.)

Jamie Ortega, Middle Country - Ortega, an eighth-grader, scored the game-winner against West Babylon and finished with five goals and one assist. It runs in the family: sister Nikki Ortega had five goals and four assists in the same game.

Ashley Gugliuzzo, Connetquot - Gugliuzzo made a stop on on a free position shot with 11 seconds left to defeat North Babylon and finished with 12 saves.

For those following some of the regional "main feature" matches, McDonogh (Maryland) defeated Canandiagua by a score of 19-5 after leading 10-3 at the half. (Canandiagua was last year's NYS Class B Finalists and returned their entire starting core for this season. Certainly, they will be one of the key teams in the Class B title chase this season.)

They are on a whole different level... Unfair to compare them to Public School program anywhere in the US.

St. Anthonys is not the top team, they lost to Vero Beach. Who is not even a top 30 team. Vero Beach graduated a ton of seniors from their team, they lost to Milton Georia whom they have beaten every year.

St Anthonys was far and beyond the best team last year. They will be good this year but not the same. They graduated too much talent. However, I am not sure that there is a dominant team on Long Island this year.

McDonogh is not the same team as last year. They were incredible and would dismantle any team. St. Anthonys was very good, but they are not the same. They just lost to Vero Beach who already has 4 losses.

Some reading regarding McDonogh (Maryland) : National Record - 74th Straight Win as of March 25th. This was followed by a victory over Canandaigua from upstate New [lacrosse]. This team is probably the most traveled "school team" in the United States and certainly have asserted their claim for their #1 ranking.

Let's see how Newsday and the various national ranking polls adjust their settings during the upcoming week. Remember that Newsday is looking at Long Island High School Varsity programs and the loss to Vero Beach might not impose a downward spiral in the local rankings.

It would be crazy for Newsday to not take into account a loss to Vero Beach. Vero Beach has already loss 4 games so it is not like they are a top team.

One thing that you can say about McDonogh is that it is a program. They graduated unbelievable talent and yet they are still the best team. They play a great league schedule and are willing to take on all comers from a non league perspective.

Can anyone confirm if St Anthonys really lost to Vero Beach /florida. I see it posted here that they did lose, but could not find it in Newsday or on any site. Please confirm either way. Seems hard to believe as Vero Beach was supposed to have had its weakest team in years. thanks

News 12 actually covered this game (by luck) with video tape on last night's news - Bay Shore was behind twice in the late second half and again in overtime - came back both times and eventually netted the game winner on a shot from in-close along the right hand side. From the video, it appeared that the players were actually too tired to jump-on the winning scorer!

St Anthonys vs Vero Beach. Heard from one of the St Anthonys parents. Vero Beach was not that good. St Anthonys was up, Vero came back and they got rattled. Vero had two very good players. Coaches did not know what to do. Vero played a great second half and St Anthonys did not have answers. St Anthonys dominated draws and groundballs. M Bill played unbelievably almost single handedly winning the game.

I was at the Boys Bay Shore game today and heard people saying that Bay Shore girls are without a few kids out sick. I do not know which kids but it sounded like they were upperclassman. Anyone have any clue what the deal is? Bay Shore boys won a close one, good game to watch.
