Mike coaches Terps Black. And from I can see there is a substantial dropoff when borrowing reg terps Thats MC. He coached terps yesterday against RVC 7/8 grade team and killed them without terps black players BUT, as my son was getting on the field to play the next game and saw 3 of the top terps black players leaving the field when it was over. I guess those guys were his insurance policy lol. That guy is a piece of work. Why would you need those players against a 7/8th grade town team??? FYI 3 current Terps black were on the RVC team and the Terps black who showed up for reg Terps got a mighty 3-4 minutes cumulative playing time. No big deal. just fun LAX. so please reLAX.

Terps have some good players All of the upper tier club teams have some good players. Now if we can just consolidate them somehow!! How about a tuition free team with coaches who do it for free to give back? Hahahaha

Don't think so. He coaches both. They do not conflict - one being on a higher level than the other. Great coach and very pleased as a terp black parent. From my view, and I am only a parent who has had several D1 players, Terps Black is not in the same category as reg terps team. It is a special group of boys that are highly intelligent and wants to learn at a higher level.

Get names and phone numbers of all of the kids you want to play together from various teams and "shop" them as a unit to express, 91, Jesters, fl$ etc. to use their infrastructure and access to practice fields. Not easy but it has been done.

All 3 big time lacrosse programs? Ah, there it is!! 7 full hours of positivity on here, knew it wouldn't last. 14 year olds on Varsity? Thats a lot of pressure (physically & mentally) to go out there with/against much older guys. What an accomplishment! Congratulations! Lots of great players in Smithtown would love to move up to JV and Varsity. But the AD does not allow it! Too bad for the kids and program would be beneficial to let them start learning and growing the program. Should be equal opps for all the kids, districts shouldn't be allowed to make different rules, especially with all the early recruiting possibilities. Smithtown varsity seems to be doing just fine without the toddlers. Yes Mr Sarcastic, both East and West are doing just fine without the 8th graders....not the point! First off that is this year...seasons to come both teams will need the program to be built with a strong foundation from the bottom up. The choice of allowing an 8th grader to be moved up to JV or Varsity should be a coaches decision NOT the ADs "rule". Its all about feeding the program and it is done all over the state. It is the only district with a rule on the books that can not be changed without the school board and superientendents voting approval. That is not beneficial to the teams and players.

That is how you build your brand, you check out the competition and grab their top talent. Mike considers at feather in his cap that he personally destroyed the Massapequa lacrosse club.

Whether soccer, baseball, softball, hockey, basketball, or lacrosse, the same adage applies in youth sports : You cannot recruit a happy player or a satisfied parent.

There are other towns that have rules that don't allow middle school kids to play high school sports. Farmingdale is one and they won the state championship just 2 years ago and the girls team has won a few in the last 10 years.

I agree with you. Friends of ours dealing with same thing in a nassau HS that is not a powerhouse school, same situation. AD made up his own rule, no 8th graders on varsity. Player is on JV and varsity coaches want him with varsity. Thats why players leave these public schools.

The AD is there to protect the coaches from getting run over roughshod by over zealous parents. Let the process play out in its natural rythem. Have you ever had to hold a season of practices with 40 boys and try to make the practices productive for all the boys? Give it a try and then come back and let us know how you made out. These coaches definately don't need an additional 5-10 self annointed diaper prodigies making the over crowded practce problem even worse. Same for JV parents wishing their kids were moved up to varsity - first ask the varsity coach how many more he can handle in practice when he already has a challenge figuring out what to do with his bottom 20. Relax - your time will eventually arrive when its supposed to.

your a joke if you think the varsity lax coach is worried about an 8th grade parent piping up for the lousy $8k per year coaches salary Exactly! Varsity coaches are not threatened by very talented 8th graders, nor their parents. They pull them up & groom them into better players. It does, however, seem as though some 8th grade parents on here are threatened/jealous by very talented 8th graders. Some school districts allow it, some dont. Some coaches do it, some dont. Some kids are ready, some are not & some will peak in 11th grade. Some of these kids playing with the older players work out & some dont. No two kids/situations are the same. To come on here & write things about 13/14 year old boys & their parents because of your insecurities is very transparent & quite honestly, pathetic!

You can huff and puff but what if the AD/Coach calls your bluff and says "good ridance, have a nice life"!!! What do you do then when you didn't really intend to go the Catholic route? Your kid is toast if you decide to stay and you may not be happy with the switch if you do leave. Good luck with all that.

Some of these guys are worse than stage mothers of little actresses. Minimize the drams, guys. You might actually gain an ounce of respect.

Not in the lax towns it doesnt. Our Varsity coach doesnt even think about you until youre in 10th grade unless youre a freak of nature. Try that in my town, the response would be, "dont let the door hit you in the a**"..........

I don't know an 8th grader that could get away with that, and I know some pretty great 8th graders. You must come from a weak LAX town to make that kind of statement, and what makes you think an 8th grader can say that to an AD/Coach and think he can just walk on to a (Chaminade, St Ants, etc...) maybe Holy Trinity (No Offence)!!

Well said. There are many former 8th grade phenom's either not playing at St A's and Cham or have left and gone back to their towns after getting a lax education on what "a great player" really means. By the way, there are also some D1 commits that don't play much either. Careful about running over to one of the above schools, I promise you they are NOT waiting with open arms for your kid!!! As good as you think your son is, there are 5 or more kids at his position just as good or BETTER.

Very few 8th graders are playing varsity at quality lax programs, yes they are participating at some of the weaker schools. It is really a matter of the system. St. Anthony's had 65 kids tryout for JV this year and many of them that were good enough to make the team didn't. St. Anthonys JV could beat many varsity squads. that is just a reality. So while people are playing the I am going to a catholic school card to the weaker public schools, the reality is that is all it is, a card. Also why would you want your 8th grade kid hanging around 12th graders? My 8th grade kid is pleased to play JV and will most likely play JV again next year, as there are 6 D1 kids at his position in our school this year and only one is graduating.

What school is this with 6 D1 kids all in the same position? I assume middie?
Its not WM, they have no 8th graders on JV, I dont think WI or smithtown (east or west) have signed 6 middies?
Garden City?
congratulations to your son for being able to make JV in 8th grade...

What are you trying to convince yourself or someone else? Is your situation/decision the only right one? Some people are not in "quality lax" schools (as you would so nicely put it). So the option for them is to play where they belong in that program, be it JV or Varsity. Some kids will make the team @ St. Anthonys, & its not a "card" they are playing. It is great that your son is pleased to play JV for the next year or two & you have 6 D1 kids playing in his position. Not everyone is in the same position. Maybe you should consider moving to a "weaker" lax program for him to get some playing time? IDK nor would I ever assume I did. I just dont understand the anger or resentment towards other players decisions. Do what is best for your kid & stop the hating towards others. I have not seen one post from an 8th grade player or their parent boasting about thier situation on here, IDK why you feel it necessary to put them down. Live & let live, it will all work out in the end.

terps black is the B Team turtles are the A Team in that age group lets clarify that Ill reply to your incorrect yet stupid random statement in your silly post, when the turtles wear a express helmet, colors and uniform we will say they are part of the express. Until than, Terps Black is the A team in 2017 express. Do I feel that the Turtles are better than Terps Black? Yes I do. The Turtles are part of the Long Island Express program! They are even listed on the website under the tournaments for which ones they will attend and what hotel they are booked at. They are the A team in the program followed by the Terps black, Terps, wolverines, phiranas all 2017 Why do they wear a different color combo than ALL the Express teams? Why do they NOT have a Express helmet decal system like 95% of the Express players? Why do they have their OWN website which is a STAND ALONE form the Express teams? Why Why Why? Because they weren't always part of the express. But they are now!

They been loosly part of express for 4 years, why is it taking so long to get a uniform the same color as the club you are SUPPOSEDLY with. I guess the turtle coach doesn't know anyone who makes lacrosse uniforms, oh well.

This isn't the first time that express teams wore different stuff. In alot the age groups in past years the A teams wore different helmets to stand apart from the other teams like solid orange helmets for example. Also aren't the terps uniforms different from the other express teams? Why are people upset that the Turtles are part of the express organization? It's just the way it is.
