As you said, it's just 2.5 months. What's the big deal to wait and see who has TRUE interest until then? Coaches will have a much better idea of who they are interested in recruiting after 6 weeks of evaluating vs what....one weekend? Will NY kids even play on the June 8th weekend or will they be in State playoffs and exams?

Where to spend time and money this summer? Do some homework and send your kid to camps at schools she is interested in and that could be a good fit for her both academically and lacrosse wise.

And I will repeat, if you don't think it also has the potential to wreck havoc with club team dynamics, then you haven't been involved with this long enough.

Of course she con go to camps that she is interested. Point is, wouldn't it be better if it made any sense to go to those camps. In other words, if contact is allowed, you can attend camps where you know there is genuine interest. Maybe spending $600 to go to a camp for 2-3 days isn't a big deal to you, but for a lot of us it is. Plus time wise she may only have a chance to go to 1 or 2 camps this summer. It would be great if that time and money was spent on a school where this is mutual interest.

In terms of this summer and coaches evaluating, the kids that would be contacted 6/15 are the ones the coaches already know they are interested in. As someone said previously, coaches have been watching a lot of these girls for 3 years already. This isn't going to speed up the process for everyone.

Remember ONE of the reasons the college coaches wanted the rule change in the first place is because kids weren't panning out and late bloomers were getting missed. If you don't think most kids change for better or worse from 9th-11th grade--then you really have no idea what you are talking about.

As for managing phone calls....have you had a kid go through the process to know what that is like? If you have, then you would know that it is fun and exciting, but also time consuming and stressful as well. How do you think getting phone calls and having conversations with college coaches throughout the summer club season would impact the dynamic of your daughters club team? Think about THAT for a minute....

Spot on

Not accurate at all.

So naive, coaches still looking to fill their camps, all about the money...ask the older kids how many camps they're been to that the schools were interested in, and they got a thanks for coming...wise up and plan on wasting some time and money, and if you don't, consider yourself lucky.

College coaches have ALWAYS wanted kids who are interested in to come to their camps...this is nothing new. It is a valuable experience for PSA's to experience campus, the coaching staff and team in most cases. Likewise, it is valuable for coaches to work with kids to get to know them better as players and people and see if their work ethic and coachability squares up with their talent. I feel certain that kids have solidified their position on a coaches list by their performance at a camp and have also worked their way down or off a list as well.

What is new is kids going to 5-6-7 camps/showcase events in ADDITION to their summer club schedule. That is crazy. As someone said before, you have choices and parents can say no. Club and high school coaches should help kids and families with the decisions about camps. They should be able give you a sense of what programs are interested and which would be a good fit from an academic, personality and talent standpoint so you aren't just guessing.

One last thought. There are tons of games streamed on line. PSA's and parents should watch on-line and try to be objective about where they think their son/daughter can play. That can also help make decisions about camps/clinics, etc.

They may not be 4 but is you look at past four years they won 2 county championships, one in B and the other in C. They losy in one semi in B and lost a championship game in the C's. Don't know what this year holds but pretty good track record.

Because the parents are insane - same as huntington - they either run the coach out of town or the coach leaves rater than deal with them

Not really..4th coach is current, 2 others were not given teaching jobs in the district and went to other school districts, and the other year the one coach and assistant coach had some issues.

The reason CSH is in C div is because the 10-12 grade is 485 students ( half girls 242 ) vs Manhasset 10-12 grade is 851 ( half girls 425 ). Thats group of 183 girls ( 28% more) !!
CSH beat Manhasset last season ( their only loss ) and also St Anthony ( catholic School ) that has the entire island to pull players !
The truth is CSH is coached better and has a great youth program !!

Not sure what "Thats group of 183 girls" means or what kind of calculator you used, but 425 is 75% more than 242.

They beat Manhasset but lost to GC last year, 13 to 8. Not taking anything away from them but let’s get facts straight.

Regarding 2018-93, the $ greedy college coaches want to keep the lacrosse date 9/1 because 9/1 enables coaches to run another round of money making summer camps .
If the date was 6/15 coaches would commit the "true recruits" the coaches were truly interested in on 6/15 and then the 100's of mislead non-recruits would not go to the coaches' money making camps.
The coaches had a stronger argument when they moved recruiting back 3 YEARS. But now the extra 2 MONTHS coaches want are just for the coaches to make money on 2 months of camps.
Players do not miraculously mature in those last 2 months. It is those 2 months the coaches want to make more money from camps.
The lacrosse coaches want 9/1 instead of 6/15 because of $ greed.
As usual US Lacrosse has sold out to the money and the coaches instead of putting the kids first. Let's hope the NCAA puts the kids first this time.
The NCAA needs to stand up to the coaches and make the date 6/15 like the other sports.

This is a pretty shallow (and repetitive) argument on multiple threads btw. You are implying that college coaches have no integrity here. I think that is unfair.

The coaches on the women's side studied this for 4+ years considering different dates and strategies to slow down recruiting. Many people wanted July 1 of senior year...coaches knew it wouldn't have enough support. That said....the September 1st date was all about having a full summer to evaluate and play in peace (no phone calls or texts); having August for families and coaches to unwind from a busy summer and having the fall to visit schools when teams are on campus and school is in session so PSA's could see a full day in the life of a player. Important information for better decision making on both sides of the equation.

Coaches wanting kids to come to their camp has not changed in 10-15 years. If you ask college coaches (on the women's side at least), they will tell you the Sept 1st legislation has impacted their camp numbers negatively...but they do not care because they think the impact of the rule has been good so far.

Very well said. Can't imagine a player can get a great sense of a school if they visit when no one is there (July/August). My oldest thought she didn't like several schools that we toured in the summer, until she went back when class was in session and could actually get a feel for the student body.

September 1 has not negatively impacted their camp numbers. There are just as many 8th and 9th graders attending as ever and the numbers for 10th graders are much higher because they are not committed as they would have been in the past.

No one is arguing that the overall impact of the change has been good. But lacrosse arguing over 2 months is silly. No one is stopping the kids from visiting schools now that they are interested in. Just because they can't talk to the coaches they can certainly visit the school, take tours, even sit in classes. That argument just doesn't fly. Coaches have been watching current 2021s for 3 years. They don't need 4 more tournaments to figure it out. Most coaches were watching 2021's last summer. Many coaches will have moved on to watching 2022s this summer. Many were watching 2022s already last summer.

All I am saying is that if you ask women's college coaches, they will absolutely tell you camp #'s are down since the Sept 1 legislation.

Arguing over 2 months is far from silly. Maybe a handful of college coaches have been watching 21's for three years but that is not the majority. Coaches are watching those games to ID kids and make their list. Most of them spent the majority of last summer watching 20's intently. Just because they were maybe at '21 games--doesn't mean they walked away with a full evaluation. I am telling you the coaches want the summer after sophomore year to evaluate a 16 year old kid who won't show up on their campus until they are 18. Kids can change and mature physically between fall and spring of sophomore year. Likewise, their game can either be on the upward swing or stagnant. Coaches want to see that they are progressing on the field. Trust me. Four more tournaments matter.

As for visits. Visit away. Get a feel for a campus--go to class if you want when you are a freshman or sophomore in high school. I promise it will look different to a kid when they are a junior.

Last, what about the team? What about watching practice? What about seeing the athletic facilities and meeting with academic counselors...you can't do that on a 'visit' as a freshman on sophomore.

My biggest question is this. WHAT IS THE rebels?

Guess you didn't get the email from Duke that states "Note: all but one of our six 2020 commits have been to our camps consistently over the last few years."

Which is weird because word on the street is DUKE was one of the main players behind the rule change and the amendment 2018-93-2, I felt/feel like I have to take my daughter to every Duke event if she wants to a chance to attend Duke. Hey in a few months I can find out if it was worth it, it only took three or four events at one school.

[ChillLaxin].

Shallow or repetitive....sorry someone needs to tell the parents because so they can at least be informed. The 21's got screwed and there is no way to fix it. The least we could do is talk to the people taking our money at camp and maybe for four years after that.

Nobody is forcing anyone to commit. The whole rule of banning contact is dumb in the first place. It's a freaking verbal for God's sake. Let the parents and kids make the decision that suits them, I'm not a fan of all this interference at all!!! Let people decide when and where they want to commit, everyone else should mind their business!

I would have to say that 2021 class will definitely be the most observed class ever, by the college coaches. They have been looked at and observed by the coaches way longer and more thoroughly than any class ever before. Now with the contact and verbals pushed back to summer entering Jr year, you should see a much better percentage of coaches getting it right. The top players of the age group are going to be in more demand than ever as they have had full exposure to nearly all the top programs, something that was completely missing with the early commit thing. They have to be thrilled that the gamble they are now taking on a kid is much closer to the product they will see walking through their doors freshman year.

Wrong. Early recruiting was driven by the coaches at the "Top Programs". The coaches from places like Maryland, Northwestern, North Carolina, Boston College etc... were all fighting to get the top kids. They were all competing for the same small group of players. The coaches know what they are looking for and they can spot it early and it does not change that much. As for "getting it right" the top programs do not miss very often. By the way, the top programs were not blanket recruiting 9th graders, Each program was targeting a select group of players. There were not hundreds of players being recruited by the top programs when they were in the 9th grade. The coaches at the top programs do not get it wrong very often and there are very few "late bloomers" out there. When the "stud late bloomer" does pop up the top programs will recruit them even if they are committed elsewhere.

They still have to get it right, Top players in more demand? You just like to hear yourself talk...stop the nonsense.

Exactly! If the rule does change to 6/15 it's not like every girl is going to be overwhelmed with phone calls. There is a group of players that will be targeted early just as there was in the past before the 9/1 rule. What would help everyone is to be able to actually talk to coaches and see if there is genuine common interest. To be able to build relationships with the coaches. In most cases, girls will still have time and will be able to visit in the fall if they desire. Maybe 20-40 girls will be pushed to commit in that 2.5 month period between 6/15 and 9/1. But the benefits for everyone would be open communication.

In more demand absolutely. That was the entire reason early recruiting was happening, a few programs were getting more and more aggressive trying to get a jump on the competition by offering earlier and earlier every year. So many of those kids never got to fully explore all options. Not the case for all, but many parents were in a race to have their kid to commit. Yes the group of say top 50 will get heaps of calls on opening day. Here is the difference, most of the coaches have now had a chance to see the top players, and all understand they need to get offers in on the opening bell. Instead of lone coaches sneaking out offers a little earlier each year. These top players are in a much better position now, they will compile every school interested on day one, rather than no opening bell and the interest trickling in as coaches uncomfortably made offers earlier and earlier trying to beat the rebels. Been through this first hand, and got the feeling from nearly all the coaches that they were very uncomfortable with early recruiting but felt they needed to do it because others were doing it and they had no choice.

Oh please, 2021s were in middle school when the rule changed and were not screwed. If your kid is truly a good player and was being recruited in middle school, she will still be a top recruit on Sept 1st. If your kid does not get as much interest on Sept 1st as she did in middle school because other players passed her by, consider yourself lucky to find this out before making a commitment in 8th or 9th grade. No one is wasting time worrying about 2.5 months except you parents who can't handle waiting to live through your kids and brag/post on social media about all the visits and offers.

I have been through the recruiting process with my kid, and every program does it differently! Maybe Duke relies heavily on their camps, I don't know; but, if you don't like that coach's approach then look at other programs. Most interest my daughter received stemmed from being seen at recruiting tournaments with her club team. She had lots of interest and multiple offers from schools where she never attended a camp or clinic. Many programs like to get to know players at their prospect clinics after expressing interest, and if your daughter is being recruited by that program she will be placed in a group of other girls being recruited and closely evaluated. That situation is worth the money because the girls get a feel for the coaches and their style. Visits in fall and winter during school are best because the recruits have the opportunity to spend time with the team, attend practice, and even spend the night and hang out socially with players. These things are important for players to find the best fit.

Relax, it will all work out.

Thats nice, a simple text or a phone call would have done it, no? Maybe stop by the house to congratulate them face to face? You are so very happy for them that you had to come on the forum to post it? You can see where people would question your motives here.
