Just a crazy scene. Most of the kids were signed, sealed, delivered to St Mary's. Most were already there. The Hawks Coach who nonstop talks about accountability, yada yada did not like that St Mary's held his own accountable so he took his ball and left. No big deal but he convinced many others that the koolaid would be great and sugary at Spalding. It is all set up to make GI Joe look like a genius by building it up why he is there and then letting it crash when he leaves. How many 2023 Hawks are going there? Not sure Phipps is really allowed to recruit any of them especially the same positions as the 2022 Hawks
Phipps made a deal with the devil...
The fun has begun on New Cut Road.... and the season has only just started.
The good news is that expectations are not too unrealistically high and that Spalding is a program featuring a winning coach with a lot of experience, a set of parents with realistic expectations, a hands-off group of donors, no political complications with club coaches, a firm commitment from the school that boys lacrosse is a top focus, and a deep lacrosse tradition backed by a lot of alumni who have had success on and off the field . Am I Right?
You're joking, right?
You forgot pay for play and Daddy-ball!

A quote from my son who is fielding offers for both lax and football. He likes Football better. Why?
"Everyone on the lax team is playing for where it is going to get them. Everyone who plays football plays because they love the game and plays with the teams best interest in mind."
Seems true from my perspective watching club and dad hs politics fr and so years as to who was going to be on varsity in lax...

MSJ loses 10-4 to DeMatha in 1st game. DeMatha got crushed in their scrimmages. It may be another tough year for the Gaels.

All anyone has to do is look at the preseason/non conference games schedule for all the Top MIAA schools. Top schools play the best teams from around the country from Canada to Florida. They don't schedule teams from a small town in Delaware to beat up on.
EX: Boys Latin vs Haverford School- s & Boys Latin vs Georgetown Prep
Calvert Hall vs Bullis- Calvert Hall vs Gonzaga
McDonogh vs Haverford Mcdonough vs Bullis
St Marys vs Georgetown Prep St Marys vs Stephens & Agnes
Gilman Vs Georgetown Prep Gilman Vs Hill Academy
Loyola B Vs Bullis Loyola B Vs Haverford School
Then theres the new Top Dog -- Spalding vs Caesar Rodney High School Spalding vs St Peter & Paul

To be fair, they Spalding is also playing B Conference powerhouse Glenelg Country and one of the Hill Academy teams. They will be ready for the A conference grind.

I really wish MSJ would get it together with the lax program.....I mean there are probably 30 or 40 kids that will not play or get cut from other local MIAA schools that could help MSJ..... Seriously disappointing considering there big time strengths in other sports

They are playing the Hill Academy from Pennsylvania not from Canada. Hill Academy PA is not a good lacrosse program. Nice try though. Calvert Hall is playing Hill Canada, BL is playing Culver, etc...These are games good programs play. As you mentioned Spalding is playing a team from the B conference and Hill PA. Got to get wins somewhere I guess.

BL loses to Haverford 15-10. St Mary’s loses to GPrep 10-7. Not a great start for MIAA, but it’s great that some are challenging themselves early.

Looking at some of scores this weekend is this a down year for the MIAA? Is the IAC a better league now too to bottom? Have other conferences caught up? Please always said the MIAA is the best conference is the country not buying it anymore.

McDonough gets past Gonzaga. St Paul’s beats Landon and Good Council. Georgetown Prep is for real, beating both St Mary.s and Severn. And a busy week for the private schools with more MIAA/IAC match ups.

Please always said the MIAA is the best conference is the country not buying it anymore. Teams have only played 2 or games tooth's point. How can anyone have a real clue how teams will end up in the last 2-3 games of the year. BTW- Every High School ranking out there this week has 5 schools from the MIAA on it. There is 3-4 other MIAA schools that are not far off the lists and a few will eventually be on the list. Just like every year. IAC has some terrific teams but they only have 2-3 that can hang with MIAA schools.

More than 2 games this year will be called a success and lord knows we all hope they will win 3 or 4 to feed the ego of the parents so we will continue to get their banter on here.

Be aware that if you see someone on this specific board advising to "hit the wall" or calling someone out as a "snowflake" that person is very likely likely the famous GI Joe / over-the-top 2022 club coach / helicopter dad himself, desperately trying to bull rebels his way toward something he clearly missed during his own non-existent high school / college playing career.

After watching some of the early lax, I have seen moments of future D1 ability and genius mixed with a ton of sloppiness.
