Interesting there has been some movement on top teams at this stage. In the past teams have locked down after 9th grade. Guess the new recruiting rules have changed some things.

Well he did play for the Eagles and Syracuse lacrosse. Plus he has Gary gait over for dinner often. So SW should have some great team trips.

Well he just started M&DOrlando, M&D Nashville and M&D Seattle. So seems he is probably not too worried about an extra 2 girls on the roster.

Wow 25 players???? They will get a lot of showcase time. Who would want to play on a team with 25 girls. Do these girls not want to play lacrosse just say they play for M&D Black?

Ignorance. You only get better by playing. And how fun is sitting on the bench? Lots of good teams to play for.

At this stage, the mystique of playing for a club such as M&D has run its course. College coaches don't care what name is on the front of the jersey. You'll have more success going to prospect days and clinics than playing in a fall showcase tournament, especially when you have such a large roster. You also better have a club recruiting coordinator that advocates on behalf of your daughter.

In theory 24 is about the max that makes sense. Can have 2 lines at each postion. 8 Def, 6 Mid, 8 Attack, 2 Goalies. Not sure what you do with the 25th girl.

Doesn't matter how you slice it, there's bound to be some unhappy campers regarding playing time.

Whether there are 20 girls or 25, there will always be parent complaining about playing time. No matter the roster size the girls at the bottom of the roster won’t get many minutes other than in showcases. It is what it is. Tough call I guess for parents if it’s better to sit on bench for M&D or play a lot of minutes somewhere else.

Once again why would anyone not want to play the sport. Be on the field have fun and show your skills and get better. No one cares if you are a bench warmer on MnD black vs starting and playing for someone else. Just look at their college committments. Moderate at best for black.

Obviously bottom "7" girls should play elsewhere. Their interest and the club keeping a roster of 25 are not aligned. Should be much more movement of players between clubs all the time under the current climate. Best thing would be a commit by date for players and families post tryout. Great news you joined a team with 25 girls! No thanks. Do I still have time to tryout for another team? Already full. Tryouts are over. If you work hard you can see a 4 min shift per half. Hit the wall. Fees up front.

M&D guarantees your roster spot once you’re in high school. Can’t cut girls. They choose to stay on team knowing they are at bottom of roster. If that’s what the family decides they want to do who are you to tell them they’re wrong?

The commitments on website aren’t maintained or complete. There is no club that has better commitment lists than M&D. Go look at the actual list of top recruits on IL. Many are M&D players and going to top 10 lacrosse schools.

Yellow Cards issued to the team should drop dramatically. The above assessment is often true, there are different types of teams out there. Some teams thrive on isolation players, they have a girl or two that can take it to goal and try to carry the load individually, and you know exactly who is beating you player wise. Then there are teams that thrive on ball movement, cuts and feeds and scoring comes from all over and you don't know who is beating you player wise. A team can be successful with either philosophy, but the two at the same time don't mix well. Some players make everyone around them better, some are on their own island and disrupt team play and chemistry and are a detriment to team play.

Thanks for making my point. Between black and red only 19 committs. Radford Monmouth Furman Hofstra, Louisville is a commuter school. College Park is a scary place. Guess youre not really into the academic side. There is pro lacrosse.

Those are only the black team commits. Please go ahead and let us know a club that has a better list of commits if you consider these mediocre.

If you're point is that club lacrosse is a waste of money in general and that your money is better spent on tutors go ahead and try and make it. Truth is though, it's easier to get into Stanford as a lacrosse player than it is to get into Maryland as a standard applicant. Nice of you to cherry pick a few schools of the bottoms of the roster and ignore all the Dukes, Stanfords, Princetons, Yales, Georgetown, Hopkins, Naval Academy, BC, UNC, etc

Please enlighten us on who does a better job of getting their girls into top schools year in and year out. Skywalkers does a great job. YJ as well.

There are 115 D1 Women's Lacrosse programs. There is a spot for everyone pretty much. It really depends on what you are looking for. Plenty of great D3 schools as well.

False statement. Skywalkers by far has the best, both blue and white. M and D red girls are mostly D3 commits. M and D Black are mostly D1, but not nearly the quality of Skywalkers. M and D has a great program though.

I guess my question was do players on red team get recruited by these colleges? or what other club has their second team recruited by these colleges?

Ok. I'll play along. The SW 2019 Blue commits are no better than the M&D, if as good. On top of the lacrosse powers, M&D 2019 has 3 Ivy's, Stanford and Georgetown.
SW 2019 Blue Commits:
4 MD
4 Oregon
2 UNC
Denver
Hopkins
JMU
BC
Vandy
Va Tech

SW 2019 White:
2 Delaware
UMBC
Colorado
Queens College of Charlotte
Longwood

M&D Red:
Drexel
Colgate
Temple
Coastal Carolina
Denison
3 Salisbury
St. Mary's
Wingate
Robert Morris

And the SW 2020's don't come close to the 10 commits from M&D 2020 Black.

Times change.

UMBC has girls off M&D Red and SW White. Mt. St Mary's definitely. Was your questions specific to colleges in MD?

Partial scholarship (know your facts). The line about getting into Stanford vs Maryland was pretty funny. Simply not true. Lets return to the discussion. Play to have fun and compete. Odds are better by getting a 4.0 and crushing SATs then lacrosse. More scholarships that way also. Red players not worth your financial outlay for 7 years club.

Thank you for the information. I guess top 10 D1 probably doesnt happen? but any other really strong D1 programs in or outside MD that would recruit players off second teams.

It is absolutely true that it's easier for a lacrosse player to get into stanford than it is to get into MD without it. The minimum required SAT score for a lacrosse player at Stanford, Duke, Georgetown, etc is only about 1200. Good luck getting into MD with that these days.

Nice of you to tell people how to spend their money. Maybe their daughter's enjoy playing lacrosse with their friends. God forbid they have to go to a D3 school if they want to continue to play. There are some fantastic academic institutions that play D3 lacrosse.

Agree plus the D3 schools will give more $$$ for academics than the D1 athletic schollys. The girls have a life and travel in the fall. The parent ego of saying their daughter is a D1 player causes some really poor decisions.

Some CHOOSE to play D3 even though D1 schools want them, less of a commitment while still playing the game you’re so good at, all while being able to enjoy all aspects of college. There is nothing wrong with D3 programs.

Noobie here... Hello!
Can I ask why the talk goes from D1 to D3? Why does no one talk of D2 schools?
Also, can you a fall semester abroad in D1 ( sounds unlikely) or at a D3 school?

Because most D2 schools are below average academically.

Semester abroad as you probably know it is not possible playing D1. Girls can spend time abroad through school at end of spring semester to wrap up a class which they still call semester abroad. They spend about 3 weeks abroad through this.

Can’t speak to D3. Assume greater possibility of full semester abroad there.

That explains why YJ sent so many teams to Nationals. Boost those rankings....... (which really doesn't mean much int he lacrosse world, outside of dollars in their pockets)

except that no 2021 teams played at Nationals.. I agree the rankings are a joke but its not always a YJ conspiracy..

It’s not a 2021 ranking. It’s the club as a whole. The nationals don’t help much as there’s no competition there and part of their formula is who you beat. SW struggles at younger ages as they build their teams. Results of younger teams brings their ranking down. M&D and YJ are typically strong too to bottom. Not sure how Steps is ahead of them however.

Anyone and everyone who has been involved in girl's/women's lacrosse for the last decade knows that M&D and YJ rule the landscape. You can debate which club is 1 and 2 all day, but there is no way any other club is even in the conversation for 1-2. Skywalkers, Hero's, Top Guns are all also are ahead of STEPS, and you can debate the order for 3-5 all day as well. Not even sure STEPS is to be considered in top 10. I have seen dozens of attempts of various rankings of club teams from "internet site sources", many of them highly ranking clubs you never even heard of.

The rankings applied and disclosed objective criteria. So they are accurate for the stated purpose. Sorry it bursted your snowflake bubble of false security.

Come on. Steps typically never plays in the top division at any of the summer tournaments. While M&D, YJ and SW spend the summers beating up on each other, Steps is in a division with TLC, Top Guns, MD United, etc.

There are 2 major championship tournaments in the summer, Lax for the Cure and the Mid-Atlantic Championships.

M&D won 7 divisions between the 2 tournaments
YJ won 2

US Club Lax included many more than two tourneys and excluded the Mid-Atlantic.

Yes, they include more than two tournaments. And it's ridiculous that they don't include the Mid_atlantic.

But, the championship tournaments are more indicative of where the clubs should be ranked as you don't just have to win 4 games against teams that are fairly equal in talent. Steps can go 3-1 or 4-0 in showcase tournaments because they are playing lesser teams. Meanwhile, M&D, YJ and SW are almost always placed in the same division at showcase tournaments because coaches want to see them playing each other. In the championship tournaments Steps can win their division but typically are outmatched once the playoffs start. (Yes I know they won LFTC 2021 this year but this is a program-wide ranking). No way Steps should be ranked above YJ and M&D. I don't care what criteria you use.

US Club Lax has no association with US Lacrosse, just a site created by a parent. You guys are so gullible and should do some research. The email address for the site is usclublacrosse@gmail....hahahaha.

Not sure why any parent should waste time with club rankings anyway. It is about your daughters developing into great people and players that can play at the next level. Not just YJ M&D or Steps

Does anyone have any recommendations for quality prospect clinics (in Maryland)? I realize each college typically does their own thing, I'm talking about events where they promote the fact that 10-12 college coaches will be there etc.. Just trying not to waste any money. Suggestions or recommendations ? Thanks.

Don’t waste your money on any clinic if it includes 2023’s.
I would decide what schools your daughter is considering, and then go to their prospect days first.

There are 2 the friday before the Mid-Atlantic championships. One at McDonogh and one at Goals in Catonsville. Both have good college coaches attending.

Agree it will not help you get recruited when you get beat on by 23s

Max Exposure is not what it once was. Very limited list of coaches there last year. Very limited list of top girls that attended.

We went to a Lacrosse Masters event ( not the Florida one though) in the past, it was a nicely run clinic. She had a good opportunity to interact and be coached by the collegiate coaches. If the schools you're targeting are there and you can swing the logistics...GO

It is much more important to go to the on campus events for schools your daughter is interested. By now you should have heard from a group of schools that are interested in your daughter.

Also what is the difference if your club reaches out and gets direct feedback that “we are interested” vs those blanket email “we are interested in the following players”? Not sure it's a great topic. It will just have people inflating numbers to make their daughter's look good. lol

Why would people inflate numbers anonymously ? You can’t talk to your teammates parents and have no idea where you stand. We are all in the same situation here.

So will it make you feel better to know that some girls have heard from 15-20 teams? Other girls haven't heard from anyone. Is what it is. Even on top teams there's a difference between the top and bottom half of roster.

XPO in Naples was a very worthwhile event. My daughter said the coaching was great and that the competition was good as well. She got to know several of the coaches and got some insight on where she might want to focus her efforts.

Most of us have been specifically asked to keep such info to ourselves about our daughters. I know this is anonymous but it's not something that is really discussed so that people that aren't hearing much don't freak out.

“Not something that is really discussed” that is why it is being brought here to an anonymous forum. Because maybe parents will actually share the truth instead of puffing up their chest to look better. The question isn’t about anybody else it’s about your own kid and your experience.

My daughter is a defender. She received 4 interest emails to her club from wildly different types of schools (smaller lower level lax to top 10) She also has interest that we know of from her club following up after camps from a few other schools. Who knows what this all means until Nov 1. She has been very active in emailing coaches for the past year and also has gone to many camps and clinics.

We have heard that the interest emails to the club are just a way to generate more camp revenue. I know personally I like to hear what others are experiencing. I have a acquaintance with defender on another team who received 3 emails. I hope this helps somebody else.

At this point in the process, how many 2021 field players do you think each top 20 program is evaluating? I realize that every team will have a different approach but if my daughter has heard from a program, how many other girls heard from that program? 50, 100, 200... I am asking because I have no idea. Thank You

I'm not sure if everyone is aware, but there is currently a NCAA proposal to change the recruiting calendar to allow contact starting 6/15 after 10th grade and visits and offers to begin 8/1. This would change the current date of 9/1 of junior year for all contact. This proposal has been recommended by the NCAA Student-Athlete Experience Committee for all sports but Football, Basketball, Baseball and Hockey. This proposal was approved for a final vote in April by the NCAA Council. This week the ACC has submitted a request to amend this proposal to keep the 9/1 date for lacrosse. This will now also be voted on in April. I'm not sure if most of you agree, but the current 9/1 date has several issues. First off, we are all forced to blindly spend money for our kids to attend camps, clinics, etc. While we can hear if a school has "general interest" some schools don't even offer that much. Allowing contact on 6/15 would make it possible to have real discussions with the coaches to gauge their actual level of interest, where the player is on their list and other useful information. It also provides an opportunity to being to create a relationship with the coaches that will be coaching your child for 4 years. As you all are aware, the 9/1 date does not remove the recruiting pressure on the kids. Coaches still watch the games years prior to that date. If anything the pressure is worse because the kids have no idea where they stand. Moving the visit date to 8/1 also allows the kids to more easily play fall sports. Most soccer, field hockey, football coaches aren't going to be too thrilled with kids missing Friday and weekend practices or even games because they need to go visit colleges for lacrosse. Coaches say they want multiple sport athletes yet pass rules that make it very difficult to play a fall sport junior year.

It has been expressed to me that it would be very beneficial for as many parents as possible to send letters/emails to the chair of the NCAA council prior to the April vote expressing concerns with the 9/1 date and support for the new proposal which is Proposal 2018-93. I am including the email below for the current and incoming Chairs. I hope we as a community can come together and try to make sure this positive change can pass.

Current Chair:
Blake James bjames@miami.edu
Incoming Chair:
Dr. M. Grace Calhoun athdir@pobox.upenn.edu

And what do you think these would be based on? The reason IL didn't rank sophs this year is because they no longer are able to base rankings on the school the players are committed to. IL doesn't come watch tournament or HS games. Those rankings are all bs to begin with. No, I'm not a jaded parent, my older daughter was ranked higher than she probably deserved because she was committed to a top school early.

The college lacrosse coaches will not let the contact date be moved up because these coaches are now making too much money from their camps.
Coaches want recruiting pushed back because coaches make huge money from the extra two years of camps from the Sophomore and Junior players who now go.
Coaches did not push recruiting back because it "was in the best interest of the players" they pushed it back because "it was in the best interest of coaches' pocketbooks". Follow the money!
Coaches want you to believe it is an amazing coincidence that the extra two months of July and August that the coaches claim "are needed so the players can mature" just happen to be the exact two months when coaches run their camps. What an amazing coincidence!
Players do not magically mature in July & August. It is because July and August are when coaches run their money making camps.
Sorry players, the NCAA, just like US Lacrosse, will put the money before the players.
By the way...
-Proposal 2018-93 is for June 15th contact
-Proposal 2018-93-2 is for Sept 1st contact
Please email:
bjames@miami.edu
athdir@pobox.upenn.edu
and tell them to vote June 15th not Sept 1st

Regarding 2018-93, the $ greedy college coaches want to keep the lacrosse date 9/1 because 9/1 enables coaches to run another round of money making summer camps .
If the date was 6/15 coaches would commit the "true recruits" the coaches were truly interested in on 6/15 and then the 100's of mislead non-recruits would not go to the coaches' money making camps.
The coaches had a stronger argument when they moved recruiting back 3 YEARS. But now the extra 2 MONTHS coaches want are just for the coaches to make money on 2 months of camps.
Players do not miraculously mature in those last 2 months. It is those 2 months the coaches want to make more money from camps.
The lacrosse coaches want 9/1 instead of 6/15 because of $ greed.
As usual US Lacrosse has sold out to the money and the coaches instead of putting the kids first. Let's hope the NCAA puts the kids first this time.
The NCAA needs to stand up to the coaches and make the date 6/15 like the other sports.

Capital, M+D and SW all in the same pool at LFTC? Tough lineup.

And of course Charlie's STEPS get a lowly TLC Red et al and has an easy path to the playoffs.

Death Match - 9:40am on Sunday (Skywalkers vs M&D). Hopefully they are not staying in the same hotel again this year...
