I pop in here every so often just to see the silly posts. Spalding is and always has been a bottom feeder in the MIAA. Have they ever even made the playoffs? Just stop with the they are out-recruiting everyone. Daddy club coach and Bayhawks owner didn’t like how they were treated at another school and left for “greener pastures” in Glen Bernie. Good luck with that...

The premier series lacrosse box league @myers pavilion was very entertaining to watch lots of talent on all teams.
Hope to see the league grow and it’s a great tuneup for the boys playing spring high school lacrosse.

Agreed. My son had an awesome time playing in it as a 9th grader. Every player should play box in the winter instead of video games. It is a nice change of pace and so helpful to their field skills.

Being a condescending donk earns a best post award? Ok sure. I agree they will probably revert to the mean at some point but they have a talented group coming up. Hopefully they come together and make the league interesting. The AA schools don’t have a dense population so it’s a good thing when a strong group stays together. The demographics suggest the suburban schools should improve over time as more people find them a viable option in spite of what this smug clown has to say. Hopefully that’s good for the league in the long run.

Cannot wait to get this season started. MIAA begins try-outs in just 22 days! I am really going to miss LaxPower, it was a great resource for those of us who love the sport.

As we wait... How did the high school indoor leagues wrap up? Anything stand out?

They've had a talented group coming up for 7 years now. AS is a terrible program and it starts at the top with bad coaching. The kids hate playing for him and it shows on the field. AS is a glorified public school to begin with. Maybe they should worry about actually beating Severna Park before they think about competing in the MIAA. I mean John Carroll beat them last year and it was JC's first year in the A conference. AS did win the JV Championship though so they have that going for them.

Can’t really speak to the coaching, maybe. But clearly not a lot of talent there the last few years to work with. JV wins bode well there. As for glorified public, it’s rated higher than MSJ, StM and JC (on Niche anyway, which is as much research as I care to do) - so it seems a reasonable option for kids who can’t do the beltway (or afford Severn). But hey the season is starting so we will get an idea soon enough.

Are you counting the game against Glenelg Country from the B conference?

4? More like 2 unless you count B league game.

Wonder what happens against DeMatha this year. That was ugly.

Pretty sure Spalding has made the 6 team playoff before, 2008 comes to mind. That being said, its hard given the headcount for AA County to have 3 powerhouse high school teams save one or two. That being said winning the A Conference JV championship is no small feat. If they can build depth and bring in 6-8 to flight caliber players per class, five of those players will pan out and they will consistently be in the top 6-8. Rome wasn't built in a day and they've had some missteps along the way. If have a winning HC and staff (experience building and coaching winning programs) and top flight athletes and laxers from winning club programs, they will succeed.

If AS gets great athletes/players and has a winning coach they will succeed? Yes, quality analysis! They need to get great HS players-not the best 16 y/o 8th graders.
And watch out for MSJ. If they get great players and build a culture of winning and get 5 or 6 top players each year they are going to be really good.

Ok Carnac/Wah Wah Holdback Dad, how do you know if an 8th grader will pan out be a quality high school player. The answer: you don't, you have to play the numbers and over recruit. Of course, the recipe is easy to recite. Its the execution that's tough.

There was a very good indoor box league that played on Saturdays at Annapolis Area Christian School in the indoor facility. Dematha, St. Marys, Spalding, Severna Park, Broadneck etc just to name a few. It is called the metro indoor lacrosse league. Competition was good and they had a championship format. Highly recommend this next year

Sorry the commoners from the south got out of line Your Majesty. By the way:

St. Mary's won the League convincingly in 2015. Severn would have knocked off Loyola last year in the playoffs if their star wasn't such a "black hole". The "South" as you call is it is alive and well.

I'm not sure if everyone is aware, but there is currently a NCAA proposal to change the recruiting calendar to allow contact starting 6/15 after 10th grade and visits and offers to begin 8/1. This would change the current date of 9/1 of junior year for all contact. This proposal has been recommended by the NCAA Student-Athlete Experience Committee for all sports but Football, Basketball, Baseball and Hockey. This proposal was approved for a final vote in April by the NCAA Council. This week the ACC has submitted a request to amend this proposal to keep the 9/1 date for lacrosse. This will now also be voted on in April. I'm not sure if most of you agree, but the current 9/1 date has several issues. First off, we are all forced to blindly spend money for our kids to attend camps, clinics, etc. While we can hear if a school has "general interest" some schools don't even offer that much. Allowing contact on 6/15 would make it possible to have real discussions with the coaches to gauge their actual level of interest, where the player is on their list and other useful information. It also provides an opportunity to being to create a relationship with the coaches that will be coaching your child for 4 years. As you all are aware, the 9/1 date does not remove the recruiting pressure on the kids. Coaches still watch the games years prior to that date. If anything the pressure is worse because the kids have no idea where they stand. Moving the visit date to 8/1 also allows the kids to more easily play fall sports. Most soccer, field hockey, football coaches aren't going to be too thrilled with kids missing Friday and weekend practices or even games because they need to go visit colleges for lacrosse. Coaches say they want multiple sport athletes yet pass rules that make it very difficult to play a fall sport junior year.

It has been expressed to me that it would be very beneficial for as many parents as possible to send letters/emails to the chair of the NCAA council prior to the April vote expressing concerns with the 9/1 date and support for the new proposal which is Proposal 2018-93. I am including the email below for the current and incoming Chairs. I hope we as a community can come together and try to make sure this positive change can pass.

Current Chair:
Blake James bjames@miami.edu
Incoming Chair:
Dr. M. Grace Calhoun athdir@pobox.upenn.edu

Yes, Spalding is on the rise super-analyst. Easy to pick the winners after you've counted your cards, much harder 2 years in advance.

All of your post is very confusing but especially "Spalding is on the rise"?

This last time that team was on the field they were wrapping up a 2-8 season with a home loss to John Carroll. The exact opposite of on the rise. Thankfully, helicopter dads with red cups and stars in their eyes don't actually get to declare who is on the rise. Show it to us on the field and we will be happy to buy into it.

My son would never go to that glorified public. Save your money and go to Severna Park. They have plenty of walls and beat Spalding anyway.

Comical to think that anyone would be jealous of that school or anyone in that school. Even if somehow they miraculously start to win there will be no one on the outside wishing they were a part of it. Hopefully the kids can find separation from their parents at some point so they can find some success. When the coaching staff and parents are drinking the same kool aid it will be very difficult.

Just a crazy scene. Most of the kids were signed, sealed, delivered to St Mary's. Most were already there. The Hawks Coach who nonstop talks about accountability, yada yada did not like that St Mary's held his own accountable so he took his ball and left. No big deal but he convinced many others that the koolaid would be great and sugary at Spalding. It is all set up to make GI Joe look like a genius by building it up why he is there and then letting it crash when he leaves. How many 2023 Hawks are going there? Not sure Phipps is really allowed to recruit any of them especially the same positions as the 2022 Hawks

They only have a few players from that club. Some were very good club players but as all the kids grew and caught up to them they fell back with the pack of very good lacrosse players. I think St Johns has a few from that team as well but in the end many of the other kids from the HOCO league caught up to them by the time summer started last year. What that shows is how important practice is and with the kids practicing everyday in high school it will be much different. I hope they all have very successful starts to the high school season. I will give one word of advice do not take a spot on a varsity team unless your son is a STARTER. They will learn more from playing in games not watching and waiting. The JV teams are very good and they will get better playing.

The Hawks 2022 glory days were before all the other kids at 2022 hit puberty. "The Hawks go to Spalding" will not be a prime time event.

They got 9 of the best Hawks players. The 2nd tier went to St John's. Still very good players but not the top guys

LOL, Grading kids out in 8th grade is "Fools Gold". If you give me 15 very good 8th graders, 8-10 pan out (start for a top 6 MIAA or comparable public school champion) in high school and 4 start on a top 20 D1 roster. Unless both parents and all of the siblings are Olympic (eg. Carl Lewis) or D1 athletes, no one knows for sure.
