That's the problem w pre-season rankings. Everyone has trouble moving past last year and really looking at this year's teams. Navy for instance. Because they made the final 4 they are ranked top ten. They had a great run last year. They are not top ten this year. 9-7 over a very mediocre Ohio State team? Same with Penn State. Yup, they've made two straight final 4's. This year, they aren't as good and lose right out of the gate to Towson. They will not make the final four this year. Their ranking is too high.
Anyone want to bet that Notre Dame is not the 15 best (preseason ranking) team in the country? They looked pretty bad yesterday against BC, who is also ranked too high. Unless they get Kent back (who might redshirt), they are going nowhere.
Final 4: Maryland Northwestern SB Syracuse
Book it. I guess you are the only one who can rank teams in the preseason. Not surprised at upsets. What is surprising is the fact that more programs can not compete with the top teams on a more consistent basis. ND is one of 10 teams that has finished the season ranked in the Top 20 in each of the past six years. Some believe they consistently under achieve but they are always a Top 20 team. Navy, much like Stony Brook has been doing very well in recent years. Navy is 81 - 21 over the past five seasons averaging 4 losses per year. They have not played the most difficult schedule but they proved last year that they can compete. Penn State has not only gone to the Final Four the past two seasons they are also one of the Top 10 programs who have finished in the Top 20 in each of the past six years. Boston College was in the Final Four last year and they have finished the season ranked in the Top 20 in five of the past six seasons. There are a lot of great schools out there that have not been able to compete with the top programs on a consistent basis. Why is Michigan not able to compete? Why has Georgetown not been better? Why are Penn & Princeton the only Ivy's that compete? What has happened to Loyola? Why can't Villanova be more Competitive? What about William and Mary? Has Hopkins fallen off? Stony Brook has found a way to bring in some great players, Navy obviously brought in some very good players. USC without question had been successful in bringing in some excellent players. Is it just that the top players want to go to the top programs? Can some coaches not identify talent? Are the coaches at the top programs simply better at everything? Does anyone besides Stony Brook have a chance at being a newcomer to The Final Four? Since you needed to be a DB... Thanks for the recap on ND, Navy, Penn State and BC. Well aware of what they have done in the past. Was not commenting on whether they were top 20 teams. The 20th team in the country is not close to a national championship in women's lacrosse. And specifically, was talking about who was ranked too high or low preseason THIS year. So rather than listing past resumes, why don't you actually respond by telling us, is Penn St ranked correctly at #4? How about Navy at #10? ND at #15? BC at #6 if Kent doesn't play. Anyone can restate past statistics and then just throw out four million questions. How about an actual forward looking thought? You know, a prediction. Or do you just want to throw out DB comments and then say absolutely nothing again. What was Navy ranked at the beginning of last year? Oh, thats right Not in The Top 20 yet they were pretty close at the end. What Teams would you have ranked higher this year? You just told us Penn State, Boston College, Notre Dame and Navy were all overrated? If you can not use last years performance when doing preseason rankings what should you use? Approximately 75% of the players return for each program and the top programs consistently bring in the top recruits. Who should be ranked? I don't think the post had DB comments. I think the point was why can some other teams not be more competitive on a consistent basis? Upsets happen from time to time. sometimes early in the year sometimes in a conference tournament and sometimes in the NCAA Tournament but for the most part it is the same 10 or 12 teams that fight it out for the Final 8 and eventual Final 4. As good as Stony Brook has been they have not made it past the Final 8. Navy did it, Boston College did it, why can't some of these other schools manage to be more competitive annually? Is it Coaching? Are there not enough quality players to go around?

Stony Brook has some incredible players and most people believe their coach is pretty darn good. We know JMU Beat UNC, we know Towson beat PSU and we know Cornell won an Ivy Champinship but none of those programs are consistently among the best. The question was why? I don't think it can be purely coaching (although recruiting is part of coaching). Michigan has dumped a ton of money into the program, their facilities are great and it is an excellent university, why have they struggled? Not picking on any school, just surprising to me that more schools are not competitive.

It’s really hard for the ivies. You can be the best recruit and want to go to an ivy ( any ivy ) but if you don’t have the grades or the finances you are eliminated. A lot of families won’t even consider the ivies because of the these situations. I for one think that any ivy to be in the top 20 is a huge accomplishment.

Navy kids or that program should never ever be questioned. Those kids do things that is a lot more important than freakin lacrosse. Go to a senior game there where you hear what these women will do upon graduation. Its truly humbling. Just tip your cap and say thanks.

SB will be the bridesmaid again this year. They will be beat by Florida and Maryland. Nobody will be feeling sorry for them due to the pompous attitude of their head coach, his behavior makes it difficult to route for them , despite being the hometown team.

How does Temple get top 20 votes? I went to fall ball to watch my kid play and Hofstra and Lehigh both beat Temple by 12 and 10 respectively. I get fall ball is not spring, but coaches were not subbing much and playing to win. Temple was outclassed. I don’t get it.

Sensitive much. Not sure anyone was saying anything negative about them. Realistically they will never win an NCAA championship but who cares they will do well in all other things.

I was actually very impressed how they moved the ball when they got doubled right away. Most of the goals came from the crease off assists. Maybe u should go back and watch, or maybe you just don't know what you are looking at.

Thank God. Maryland plays the game the right way. They were the better team by miles. The rules are back to how they should be. Go Terps!!!

Florida has too many selfish players to win a championship. Go away hater. Eight different players scored goals yesterday and 50% of the goals were assisted. I'm sure all of the girls hustled , played good defense, picked up ground balls, moved the ball etc.. Even the announcer was making comments about Florida forcing the ball. Open your eyes! One player was not happy she only scored 1 goal...tjough she kept on trying to bully her way in. Not a hater, just stating what I saw! Bitter, Jealous , Hater.

Navy kids or that program should never ever be questioned. Those kids do things that is a lot more important than freakin lacrosse. Go to a senior game there where you hear what these women will do upon graduation. Its truly humbling. Just tip your cap and say thanks.
Sensitive much. Not sure anyone was saying anything negative about them. Realistically they will never win an NCAA championship but who cares they will do well in all other things. What a D***!

USC is a final 4 team. Young athletic and a few great transfers not to mention the games best goalie! The goalie is exceptional but not the games best. She does bring a lot to the team and I'm not knocking her in the least, she's just not the games best.

Come on, they play the vaunted Stanford Cardinal twice! Cue the guy who keeps putting Stanford on the list of possible final 4 teams. Ohhhhh such silliness. How'd the opener go against Denver?

Your bitterness comes through loud and clear. I'm guessing your daughter was not offered a spot at Stanford. Or maybe she did not have the grades.

Ha, that's what all you [ChillLaxin] Cardinal people think. Who would ever choose anything but Staaanfohd? Hysterical. And so typical to think that your little princess must be good enough to lead the Cardinal to the final four. Funny. Believe me, the rest of the real students at Stanford don't think your daughter "had the grades". HAHAHAHAHA.

However, unlike you I do not harbor resentment or try to tear down the school or the players who compete for The Cardinal. As for the real students at Stanford go , they are well aware of the athletes and they take pride in knowing that they represent the university well in the classroom and on field/court/track/pool etc. There are probably 1000 athletes at Stanford 1 in every 7 undergraduates is a Varsity Athlete. There are several reasons that the university makes athletics a priority and one of those is that many Stanford athletes go on to be leaders in their chosen field of endeavor. Maybe you or your daughter will work for a Stanford (Athlete) Graduate some day. Keep hating and keep trying to tear others down. Just don't pass your negative traits to your children.

Stanford Envy. Probably not your only "Envy". You sure know a lot about The Cardinal. In fact you even know what other students there think of the athletes. No you don't.
