"FL$ 2020 is in trouble..."

Wow, yes, serious defections...Igloo, Express, Old/new turtles... underestimated depth of unhappiness after a very strong season, on paper anyway.

How is it that a "kid with a really high GPA/SAT combination . . .isn't . . . strong academically"? Those seem to be two contradictory academic assessments that shouldn't exist in a decent school system!

Can you read? It says a kid who has a really high GPA//SAT would "balance out" a kid who isn't really strong acadmenically. Is that how coaches build their recruiting classes?

This depends on which school. If you are referring to an Ivy League or Patriot League school, schools have gotten more strict with players GPA's and SAT scores so a B/C average won't make the cut but all programs certainly have wiggle room but only so much.

What about ACC schools or Big 10? What are coaches looking for an early commit to maintain (as far as GPA). Is a Low B or C average "good enough" for a kid who isn't one of the top recruits in a class?

Trouble is a strong word. Kids left for sure and reasons could be take as justified. But this team will beat Igloo, lose to Express and the new Turtles team is still tying to fill a roster. So the word trouble could mix in well with a few of those mentioned other than Express.

Um, there are very few C grade players playing in ANY league. You'll find the occasional C but that's a specialized position. Sure, Ivy will apply their matrix. But unless you're THE BEST goalie/FOGO on a team, don't plan on playing major D1 with a B/C. Want proof? Look at the rosters. . .all major prep schools or high level HSs. . .

So you are saying they won't beat Igloo and the new Turtle team if they are able to field a team ?

Every school has a different criteria but if the player committed with a B/C average for argument sake, they are looking for that player to stay consistent which is then that particular schools criteria. For a non blue chip recruit, if they aren't within a few points of the schools criteria, they will more than likely have a difficult time getting accepted because remember, admissions has the final say, not the coach. But like I always tell my athletes, utilize this great game as a gateway to get into school you most likely wouldn't have had the opportunity to without lacrosse which is why I said there is wiggle room.

I am really wondering about all the rising 9th grade students that "committed" last year. Will a school still want them with anything less than an A/high B average? I would guess that "regular" students would never get admitted to ACC, Big 10 schools with anything less. And since there is no contact right now, I would think some kids would really be sweating it out (well, maybe not if their grades are low).

You are not getting into Norte Dame, UVA and Duke with Bs and Cs. There is a limit as to how much the coach can do. Best to shoot for UNC where their athletes take paper classes.

They lost one of the best face-off kids in Long Island, truth and a real tough loss, they lost a very solid midfielder, truth, and two very good defenseman, truth, the other players who left will not affect this team at all and most will see their replacements as an upgrade. So to say this team is not still talented and won't beat the teams mentioned other than Express is very skeptical at best. The boys will play competitively so lets stop the bashing and let the results speak for itself.

The only "truth" is the fact that FL$ lost approx 40% of the top performing team in the program. That is the clearest sign of an organization in decline and should answer a lot of questions for anyone contemplating it as an option for their son or daughter. You can debate the quality of the departing players all you like, but that won't change another season of horrible practices, C class tournaments, and owners who rarely even acknowledge parents on the sidelines. Good luck with that.

I'm not the daddy, but unless you are a top 20 recruit you are not getting accepted to UVA witH Bs and Cs from out of state.

Could not agree more. My son is not a Blue Chip player, although he can hold his own with them, and he is an A student with all honors classes from out of state who would be GRATEFUL to be accepted to UVa.

The first qoute has the first university spelled incorrectly, and the reply should say others or other two. If you are going to comment on academics, it might resonate if you utilize proper spelling and grammar.

FL$ lost three impact players. 2 mids who both faced off and 1 Dman. Every other loss is replaceable turnover. The program should look itself in the mirror as to why it lost so many and adjust.

Admissions acceptance rates:

Duke 17%
ND 22%
UVA 30%

Even at 30% you gotta have all A's.

Wait, you are surprised that a new 2020 team being put together already had players committed to the team prior to tryouts?? You must be new to lacrosse.

You had to know Turtles tryouts would be pre-determined. I have news for you, playing time is probably already sketched out as well. Manhasset daddies didn't leave FL$ to take a chance that things wouldn't work out well for their future D1 superstar sons. Ha ha ha.

Been through the recruiting process a couple of times. IMHO it would be wise to pick a school your son can compete at both academically and athletically. Academically being the more important of the two. If you think your son belongs at ND or UVA or some other high academic school with B/B+ average in HS you're heading for trouble. Mine was recruited by Ivies, Academies and High Patriot. Would have loved to see him go to one of those schools. Went to a school closer to his Academic profile and is doing fine. The reality is, without lacrosse he'd never get into those other schools. Not sure he would get out either if he had gone because of Lacrosse. Playing a sport like Lacrosse at the D1 level is a full time job. Very tough to do and still be able to study and have a social life. Not sure you're doing your son any favors by putting him in a situation where he has to struggle to get C's. Coming out of UVA with 1.9 in Social Sciences or something is not getting you anywhere. Even if the degree says UVA.
