Will be very hard to get on to TG 2023 Black. They have a solid team already. A couple of the bottom girls need to go, and I would expect a few YJ players could be taking their place after seeing all the negative comments about that team. 2023 age group on LI is weak across the board and no one team can separate. TG, YJ, Igloo all have teams about the same level. If your daughter can make the top team, I would stick to TG or YJ, both have a good name and are respected by the college coaches down the road. If you read these threads, parents are all caught up on who beat who by one goal at this tournament or that. None of that matters to recruiting and the college coaches certainly will never know or care about any of it. What they do know is that the top players from top clubs kick butt. From LI, YJ tops that list for sure, TG does well each year with some very good players as well along with Elevate and Liberty. Igloo? LEGG E Cee? As you get out on these fringe teams you will likely only see the top couple players garner interest. The other famous quote on this thread is Coaches recruit players, it doesn't matter what team they play on. I disagree, it matters greatly. Clueless...Coaching is everything and Igloo, YJ and TG cant compare with another brand when it comes to coaching at this age...always go with coaching people So being coached by the best player in the country and Tewaaraton award winner doesn't compare to igloo......your not serious are you. Best players almost never turn into best coaches, there are an endless list of examples

yes, relating to kids is the most important piece of teaching and communicating. Dictating and having your best three kids win games by going to goal is not getting your money's worth. Dead on assessment and it's not necessarily the best three players, it's the favorites.

And changes are not made from year to year. There are no positional tryouts for this club. It is a complete mystery who will be playing any positions until the first tournament next June. Doesn't matter who got better or worse, who put the stick down all winter and who didn't, and who did winter trainings. Good luck with 25 player rosters!

Please list the ways that SS coaches all of the girls in the program? With the exception to the teams that she is listed as head coach, she does not coach girls individually or in small groups - not even at clinics or winter training. She is there most of the time, and she oversees them, but that's about it. Personality goes a long way with young girls. SS is not a warm and fuzzy person. Doesn't mean anything about her coaching ability, but not a person young athletes want to gravitate towards.

You can't have the same three girls running isolation plays, which does happen often on TG - but mostly on other weaker organizations that don't have the talent. TG has the talent to spread the ball around and get more girls involved, but it doesn't happen regularly. Maryland clubs catch on quickly and just double the ball because they know it won't be moved. Yes, TG romps over weak teams, but when they play the top teams - this stuff doesn't fly.

The talent is there but they focus on a select few They don't seem to be developing players except for those girls, who are being trained to be selfish players because they are revolving the game around them.

Funny......not good if other kids are told go to goal........I guess its ok if its your kid being told go to goal. SS plays to win at all costs, she believes that's the best way to market the club, if you're not the go to goal kid your irrelevant to her. Many competitive games the bench is very short with 5-7 kids not playing at all - this includes showcase events that don't have a championship format. So if you're willing to drive down to Maryland or Virginia and watch your daughter ride the bench in half the games then it's all good, but being one of the three go to goal kids would be better...

Let's list some SS facts: Her best years at Hofstra were her 1st and 3rd years, primarily the previous coaches recruits. Hofstra has been 11-21 the past two seasons. She has had had trouble retaining girls with several girls leaving the team last fall season and has been continuously criticized for her inability to relate and form relationships with her players. Now that her team has had two years with entirely her own recruits she has had two losing seasons. Unfortunately successful coaching at any level requires the ability to form interpersonal relationships with your athletes, relate and inspire them, and ultimately earn their respect. There is a difference between fear and respect and you should never confuse the two. Good coaches earn their players respect, SS on the other hand is feared. Don't believe me, ask any TG player if they are afraid of here and the overwhelming majority will say they are afraid of her.
Her club teams have encountered some problems from a player retention standpoint. Her last strong class of multiple high level top program commits were probably 2016, (though 2020 has had a good start). She is inappropriate on the sidelines often when addressing these young athletes, saying things that comes out callous, and she should try to preserve some of these girls self esteems and help build self confidence instead of tear it down (here come all the kool-aide drinkers, who are going to say your daughter isn't tough enough, but would you let some punk on the street verbally abuse your daughter? then why would you let a person in a coaching/authority role do it?) and it is obvious that though she works for a University, and claims to teach young people athletics and everything that is supposed to go with that (the virtues or sportsmanship, hardwork and respect) she is a poor excuse of any sort of educator.
You can see the disfunction of the father/daughter relationship and the resentment build in this woman. She has little passion for the game left, the only passion is for the survival of the brand to support the people feeding off of it. The father runs to his truck between games to avoid any interaction with parents or players cause as he has expressed many times he hates parents, and they know nothing. In his mind there is only one way and that is the Smith way. And AS....well we will leave that for another time.

Must suck being caught in the brief glimmer of hope that you will one day take over the lacrosse club and run it and no longer have to peddle insurance as you troll young BOTC (yes your office mates have seen it up on your computer). Maybe if you can return it to its former glory you can erase your failed career at Tampa, in which daddy couldn't bully and try to manipulate the athletic department like he did at West Bab. .

You need to perform to be on the field. You sound more bitter than the "bench sitters". You are either a Smith or your daughter is one of the "three go to goal girls". There is lots of crazy on these boards but if something pops up enough there is usually a grain of truth to it. Disgruntled players don't "make this crap up at all the clubs"...on other forum threads the complaints are different. These are pretty specific to TG. When reading some of these comments, I couldn't believe the similarity to our experience. TG attracts talent, granted everyone can't be a superstar, but anyone can witness the behavior/comments of SS or BS on a sideline. There was a lot more in the original comment than about playing time...it addressed how the girls are spoken to and it anticipated that someone like you would make your comment. Seems like there are lots of disgruntled people at all the clubs so I guess it is a matter of pick your poison. I repeat, anyone can come witness a tournament & see how SS, BS, & AS behave and see the truth in the above statement.

LOL, but probably very accurate Wow, I couldn't have said it better myself. Wow is right, you bench sitters need to find a different sport. You couldn't be more wrong. But I guess disgruntled players make up this kind of crap at all the clubs. My experience is very different from what your experience is. Club lacrosse is a dog eat dog world. If you're so unhappy, stop complaining and go somewhere else....if they will have you. If you do , I'm pretty sure you'll be making the same complaint. Sadly lacrosse is a shark tank!

It is a little tough to hammer her on her coaching career at Hofstra so far. She has been there (5) seasons. Keep in mind that her first season was 2013. At that time most of the top talent was already committed by 10th grade (class of 2016) and in some cases by 9th grade (Class of 2017). In my mind her first true class is the freshman from this past year's team. It looks like she has some good talent from that grade and next years freshman class is still TBD. Add to that a very successful SB team at almost a third of the cost as well as better academically, other top flight talent does not stay on LI, great D2 talented teams on LI...etc. Recruiting at Hofstra is difficult. You need to create a winning/successful program like SB and the recruits will come. I think we would all like to see LI girls have success on the next level. TG 2016 class was a strong group of girls, no doubt. I do not think the 2017's were strong but the 2018 team is very good. They are not in the top 3 (YJ, M&D, Skywalker) but they are easily in the next one or two teams to follow. 2019 is also a strong group, probably in the 5 to 10 range. The problem TG has is that they are not as strong as YJ when it comes to college recruitment. Therefore some of the better talent end up moving to YJ after a couple of years. That to me is the one issue they need to address, although sometimes getting rid of those parents is better for all anyway. In reality though they are still by far the second best option on LI and many girls do go onto to top lacrosse as well as academic institutions. As far as coaching...they cannot win. People come on here and complain about college girls coaching that are always on their cellphones...but on the other hand when SS coaches she is too hard on the girls. As you can see they will never make everyone happy. Everyone need to make a choice that is best for them. But, let's stop all the bashing because you feel like somehow you and your daughter were wronged. Hopefully you are in a better and happier place so move on. You can go to the YJ thread and find the same crap on there. I can tell you we enjoy our TG experience and have met some wonderful people. Best of luck to your daughter(s)

Hofstra was 8 and 8 this year playing 5 ranked teams beating Towson. Not exactly a losing Season JERK!!! I understand it's not great, however check out the strength of schedule. They had many good freshmen on the field last year with a few good ones coming in this year. Let this year play out... I'm predicting a winning season and a spot in the conference playoffs. Let's re visit this in February of 2018

yes, relating to kids is the most important piece of teaching and communicating. Dictating and having your best three kids win games by going to goal is not getting your money's worth. How do you not play a kid in a showcase event? what is she supposed to tell the coaches that she wrote letters when she doesn't play at all in 2 of 4 games? Does anybody really think this is ok?

Who the F cares! SS already proved she can play lacrosse. Let's face it, the better girls are not committing to Hofstra. She does the best with what she has. You need to start worrying about your own daughter and why she is sitting on the bench.
