All clubs hold tryouts for the few open spot on existing teams to take the best players. Name one club that had a tryout and said upfront how many actual spots were open on any given team? Orange, Purple, Terps,91,96,100,Crabs,Gladiators,True Blue,Green Yellow, Hawks whatever....it is the nature of the process. All teams hold a tryout and usually collect some sort of fee and then pick teams. You are obviously disgruntled with your experience with this particular club but I know firsthand it happens elsewhere. Coaches want the best players. My son was actually solicited by a coach of another club(Not Express) after a game(5th grade team at the time) and asked to come play with them and he would promise to "make room" for him. How do you think his current player that would be cut would have felt?

They should state up front - "Your son is not trying out for the Orange team - he is trying out for placement on either the Blue or whatever we are calling the 3rd team. Thanks for the Hundy."
yet kids that were not on orange last year made the team this year - kindly explain..... This is a team that won the U15 national championship last year and cut a couple of kids and added a couple of kids for a rising Junior team what else do you want. check out the other threads where they complain about lack of loyalty

The diamond in the rough that shows up at tryouts will be researched to see if it was a fluke. While the boys who played last year had their oppurtuity to show what they can do. Personally, I wished Express would put a bit more emphasis on the next teir of players. There are a lot of players who would love to play for them, but the families feel they have not shown in the past few years that those teams (below the orange) are important to them. This is where i feel the other organizations surpass Express. IMHO

just so I understand this, the goalie that made the team was guaranteed the spot over the goalie that had been on the team for 3 or 4 years before the tryouts? and the kid that played on White last year and made the Orange this year was guaranteed his spot and neither one made the team because they outplayed other kids at the tryout?

No kid on last year's white made the orange - if that were true, what would that say about the Express coach's ability to judge talent? No kid improves that much in one year to jump two levels and break into a "national championship lineup" - unless the Express screwed up, heaven forbid.

You are trying to compare apples and oranges. No tryout from year to year is the same. Not all the same players show up and some players do improve from year to year and some players DO not improve. This allows changes in each years team. Most teams do add and remove players fro many reasons. Especially with all the options available for players and all the players available for coaches. This is not just in this club/organization but in all of them.

There definitely are kids that can improve that much in one year. & why would that mean that Express screwed up? Kids grow, their bodies change, they develop a bit of confidence that they had been lacking, they just become better due to hard work & focus, or as the prior poster said...they just outplayed other players @ the tryout! It happens all of the time in ALL sports.

Last summer a 5' kid with no brothers played on express white, the same kid is now 5'8" was the MVP of the Nassau Suffolk showcase, he got bigger stronger and better and at what appears to be an open tryout made the Orange team - just saying. and what that says about express ability to judge talent is that last year they missed a small diamond in the rough who was also injured at the tryout, not at his best and didn't deserve to make the top team and this year found a fully grown talent lacrosse player. open and fair tryouts

What year? I do need to say that tryouts are not infallible. A player could have a bad two days, be hurt, or the exact opposite have the tryout of his life and never play at that level again. At least player was still in Express and is playing on Orange.

The "playing field" is not the same in any given year- but most especially for kids going through puberty. Good for that kid!

It's funny how when your side loses, it's because the other side cheated, they are low information voters, they voted because they are getting things for free, etc. Those who fail to recognize their short comings are doomed to repeat them. Why doesn't the losing party ever take a step back and say " Gee, maybe our ideas, or beliefs, or policies are outdated and wrong, and the majority of the country doesn't agree with us.

2019 is $1600 for summer, if you did fall tournaments and practices it was additional $800.

I need some help following here, is fishing actually a metaphor for asking a question that you already know the answer to and just trying to start a dialog that will allow you to indirectly trash the Express because they charge money? or is this really about a new travel fishing league? if so I want to register www.backofthepond.com before cagesage so i can control the conversation... I hear that MC already has his eyes on a great 2024 caster

Just a conversation on the relative cost of things... people complain about how much a certain travel team charges, then to another thread and complain about about the helmets they get or dont get... sign me up for back of the pond, I believe the recreational fishing industry in the U.S. has a much broader audience and grosses 100x more than the Lacrosse industry. The 100x is an estimation I am sure it is much more.
